I once heard a story about someone objecting to the union at a wedding. It was a person in a pirate attire, and when they got close, the priest took out a sword, too, and they engaged in a sword fight. It was all scripted, but it sounds like a lot of fun, lol.

The sadder thing is he might have truly accepted him at one point. Some people get really weird when it comes to 🍆/🍑 and change their whole moral compass based on a relationship. I know this because my brother did this same goofy shit. Sometimes people aren't actually bigots, they're weak-willed wishy washy morons who flip their morals for 🍆/🍑 which isn't much better if at all but it's important to know the genuine article from a grifter. Still love my brother, but I don't like him.

From listening to way, WAY too many (fake or otherwise) Reddit stories, what I can conclusively say is: 1) anyone sending flying monkeys or tattling to their parents if they're adults in a committed relationship are not ready for an adult relationship, 2) anyone using a wedding to make a stance/ultimatum/ announcement or mend frayed or completely unraveled connections is not worth the effort of placating, cajoling, and forgiving, 3) record any conversations if you're in the midst of drama, bad people like to use calls cause they want their shitty words to be harder to prove (make sure you know your local recording laws, even the two way recording states only apply to cases where the recording is made public or used for legal defense), and lastly, 4) sometimes the loneliest person is miles happier than being in a toxic, abusive, and/or coersive relationship. Loneliness is easily solved, marriages (worse still with children) are complicated to break off. Trauma is much, much more expensive to deal with in the long run than being single, lonely, childless, and just generally discontent.

Story 1: Personally, if my siblings were getting married, and their SO’s family said I couldn’t come due to my sexuality, my family would flip out. I’m not sure how that would go. Also, if the Brother and SIL really didn’t care about him being bi, they would have invited him because it’s their wedding. Not her parent’s wedding… So, they can invite whoever they want. So, it really does seem like they didn’t want him there. I think disowning him is perfectly fine.

1. OP isn't responsible for facilitating his brother's and SIL's lie. 2. The brother should have told the people who would have been mad about that on his own. Screaming at you for "ruining" his wedding is pretty rich coming from him. 3. Being a good husband doesn't mean sticking to your wife no mather what. For one, it should be a mutual thing and it shouldn't be in effect, when your spouse is clearly wrong. If your partner turns out to be evil, or does things that are considered bad, then you shouldn't be having their back unconditionally because wanting bad behavior to change is a condition, that a partner should strive for.

He never had any trouble coming out to me, it was a natural conversation when we talked about crushes we had at that time. I can't see myself not loving him because of who he is attracted to, and even less, getting with someone who (or who's family) would not accept him as he is, that is straight up a betrayal. Oh wow, I remember this story, and thanks for the updates too, cause this is the first time I heard them. That brother's family, holy ... imagine being so petty about a ruined wedding reception to brigade on OP and the BF (who had NO involvement whatsoever) just to satiate hurt pride. Yes, this is pride, cause they just cannot let go of their own bigotry and feel they have to lash out to satisfy their own pathetic egos. It also angers me so much that people will quote scripture to justify their bigotry. My guess: the brother's family puts a lot of stock in their public image to maintain "good Christian values", hence why they disappeared off social media when they got exposed. OP, I wish you, your new husband, and your unconventional family all the best, but I also suggest you should look to distance yourself from that bigoted family. Even if they got shut down by the law, if there is one thing I know about prideful people, they will keep returning until they get their "middle finger" moment against you, even if it means waiting years or decades. Do not give them that chance.

I've heard this story many times and it continues to baffle me. In general, why are homophobes putting in so much effort to send hate? They're wasting their time and everyone else's. Hate isn't the opposite of love. Both give attention to something. The brother is going to regret picking a hateful family over his loving family. Crazy how the BIL sent a mad man to OP's old place. BIL would have been responsible for whatever damage FIL would have done. If my brother did that he would be dead to me. As someone who's LGBT, it's expected to get hate just for existing. It can be exhausting and damaging on bad days. Homophobia shouldn't be "normalized" but that's the unfortunate side of things. I'm lucky enough to have a safe space at home. I wish everyone can have that too. I wish OP, his boyfriend, and the sister the best.
