Back in 2002, I switched rotations with my best friend in my unit, because his son had just been born prematurely. So I deployed in Sep 2002 and 'Plummer' deployed a year later in 2003. While in A-stan, Plummer died in a helo crash when one of the engines failed just after take-off. I think about him all the time, wonder if it should have been me on that rotation. He was a great guy, one of those people that was bigger than life, almost like something in a book or movie. Thanks for this video Matt, it is exactly how I feel when I think about Plummer and imagine him walking or running next to me, grinning like a maniac, staying young and lean, just as bright in my memory as if I had seen him yesterday.....

I just watched this and it made me think of my best friend Sargeant Gareth David Thursby, who died in Afghanistan 2012. I had the honour of carrying Gaz's coffin on his final journey home, hardest thing I have ever done, emotionally, physically and psychologically. On the back of the C17 (I think) the bugler played the last post. Even now when I here that being played my eyes well up and I think of Gaz 'The Bull' Thursby. Gone but never forgotten. I have a portrait of a bull in the front room of my house in his memory. A shout out to all the other fallen heroes who have died in service of their countries. And much respect and love to our allies over in the US, it has been an honour to fight alongside you in Iraq and Afghansitan.

Some say here that it almost made them cry. I say cry. They were brothers and sisters closer than brothers and sisters. They challenged us with their strength, displaced our fear and loathing with laughter and made us brave by being brave. They shed their blood. It's okay to honor them by shedding our tears.

Very well done, a strong reminder that Memorial Day isn't just remembering those soldiers from wars long passed, but to remember those that have sacrificed all for our freedoms now.
@bavarianpotato7 жыл бұрын
Armed Texan there were wars that were fought for your freedom. The men that died for example in ww2 died for your freedom. But are the men fighting and dying in afghanistan or in irak really fight for freedom? I am sure the soldiers are thinking they are and are doing everything on best intent, and i don't want to disrespect any of those men. But in which way is a war in irak or afghanistan to protect your freedom? To me, most of the wars the us military is involved in at the moment are only about power and often, about oil. and although the soldiers may think they are fighting for freedom, and again: i dont dount their honor or anything, do you really believe that those wars are worth dying for?
@armedtexan83737 жыл бұрын
In terms of freedom, do I want the war in the US or over there. Yes if they want to fight, let's fight in there lands not mine. With no fighting here, I can freely do as I please, which equals to freedom for my family and myself.

This means a lot. See I was a combat medic. Naval Ground Forces, MOS 68W. Wolfpack. Our job was simple, drop in, take care of the wounded, provide cover and reinforcement, then get everybody out. We were used to being the last ones out. And we nailed the drop every time. There were six of us, so we each had one jump partner. I was always second on the ground. Me and my partner. Everything was just another jump until that one time. I’m not sure if I made a mistake or if he did or what.. but when we hit the ground and I looked up. The first thing I saw was his arm get ripped.. I wasn’t too worried until I saw how much blood he was losing. And where he was hit. I was trying so hard Mat and when he looked at me and said “hey. Am I gonna make this or what?” ....I lied and said “yeah” I’m most proud. That I haven’t blown my head off yet. It’s so much easier when you’re dead. Best, honestly bro, you kinda keep me going... so thanks. Thanks for giving me something that makes me remember the good times. And not his last time.

@Rick82317 жыл бұрын
Got it wrong, the only people that got a deal in lead were the ones trying to kill us. No innocent civilians. I can honestly say with a very clear conscious that not one civilian or non combatant was killed or even injured by me. I can tell by your comment who you voted for and more importantly, you have zero understanding of the enemies we are fighting over there. You ask, "How fucking cool is that?" Let me tell you. I can't even measure how many American lives I have saved with the stuff I did, the weapons caches I found, and the IED's I found in which EOD either disarmed or detonated safely when no innocent by-standards were around. . That's how cool that was.

Dragon888193ftw, I never fired upon anyone who wasnt a enemy combatant who had fired upon myself or my fellow soldiers first. If you had any actual knowledge regarding rules of engagement you would probably still not understand what they actually are . So go ahead and make your stupid ignorant accusations within your protective bubble whereever that may be. And Go ahead and take your pot shots at us with your keyboard . We can take it. But just remember this 1 single fact.....you say what you say from wherever it is that you say it, and use your keyboard to say it with. Because you know damn well you lack the courage of your convictions to go stand in front of the closest V.A. facility near you and stand tall and say that stupid shit to Veterans entering and exiting that facility. Its obvious your stupid but I doubt your completely fucking retarded. But fuck , ive been wrong before so....

Respect to our Vets, current Soldiers and the fallen. My grandfather was a ball turret gunner in WW2 and came back and my great grandfather was one of the first American fighter pilots in WW1. He was shot down seven times over France but never died, we were lucky. I know there were a lot of soldiers that never came back to their families. Respect to them, may you rest in peace.

I know this is at least partially a joke, but this type of joking/reasoning is behind the mass dissonance our country is experiencing. Liberals aren't your enemy. Liberals don't hate the armed forces or veterans. Do they want to spend some more tax dollars on healthcare and education versus even more armed forces funding? Yes. But at the same time, additional defense budget spending should go towards taking care of our veterans properly. Less spending on offense and more spending on defense and healing.

the defense part of the US budget isn't that much compared to the SHIT they spend money on. They need to increase it to take care of the veterans. It was the leftist/antifa/communist assholes that did the thumbs down. God Bless the USA especially those that defend it and their families.

2017 Budget: 1. Healthcare such as Medicare and Medicaid ($1,060B or 28% of spending), 2. Social Security ($910B or 24%), 3. Non-defense discretionary spending used to run federal Departments and Agencies ($600B or 16%), 4. Defense Department ($585B or 15%), 5. Interest ($240B or 6%). The defense budget alone is equal to all other government spending with the exceptions of social security, medicare/medicaid, and interest on existing debt. Money from within the defense budget should go from discontinuing certain programs or equipment (based on a study of cost vs. benefit within the defense department), and that money should be used to help veterans. We do NOT need more defense spending, but we do need to reallocate the massive slice of pie it currently owns. Or, perhaps we can stop both publicly traded and private companies from profiting off of the elderly and unhealthy and end for-profit healthcare and insurance companies. Administrative expenses are in the 20's within for-profit insurance companies, while they're under 5% within Medicare/Medicaid. Government programs aren't the answer to every problem, but it is certainly the answer for healthcare, as determined and proven by every other industrialized nation.

Well shit, I need to go hug my dog now. Sincere thanks for all who do this, and I thank whomever for the fact that all my friends who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, barring one injury, came home alive and in one piece.
