I just had to comment one more time to say that the scenes with Roger,and Gellis had been laughing my booty off and my hubby kept asking me whats so funny? Both actors played it up to perfection and then when Dogual walked in I was in disbelief for a second..Then when Gellis and Dougal casually left the room together for some private time was total perfection for the fans .

I have read up to book 7 so I do know what Claire will do about Lord John's proposal. I thought that Lord John and Claire's acting in the scene where she learns Jamie's ship has been lost at sea was utterly OUTSTANDING. As far as Ian and Rachel.... my sense is that they have less than zero chemistry. Their chemistry was worse than how Bree and Roger's was at its worst. Also, there was such irony when Dougal and Gellis meet and Buck is sitting there not knowing that these are his parents. Both Buck and Roger are sharing similar experiences - not knowing their fathers are in their midst. Such brilliant writing. I loved this episode so much. And again, I appreciate both of you and how entertaining your break down is. Thank you.

Overall, loved this episode, thought it very well done. Loved everything “Roger” lol, he finally gets a chance to shine & loving Bucks input as they go on. I think it dawned on Roger why they ended up in the wrong timeline as there was another Jeremiah McKenzie before Jem. I laughed, cried & sympathized on so many levels 💕 Edit for spelling

I was so happy to see the story finally come to my hometown, Philadelphia. You're right. The depiction of the city at that time is beautiful and seems very authentic. As native Philadelphians we take all of these amazing historical sites for granted because we pass by them our whole lives. Bartram's Garden is still very much alive. Head House Square is very fun and this episode depicted it very well. Those gorgeous row homes now cost multi millions. I actually live on Valley Forge Road and am within walking distance to the entrance for Valley Forge National Park. We drive through it and should take more time to consider what happened there. It's beautiful and haunting. I am going to make a real effort to stop and appreciate all of this history around me. It's a wonderful place to live.
@Myoutlanderpurgatory5 сағат бұрын
We’ve said this in previous videos-but growing up we had far less appreciation for the historical aspect of the city. Valley Forge was where you went for school picnics or to hang out with your friends-you barely noticed the little cabins and whatnot. I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever been to the visitors center there!!

So, Lord John writes a letter that the boy is SHOT to Claire over in Scotland. It probably takes two months for the letter to get to her, then she travels a month and a half to get there. That's a 3 1/2 month window before she even sees the gunshot patient. It strains the willing suspension of disbelief. But hey, that's TV for ya. "Oh, Christ"!

I loved this episode. I think the show is quire seamlessly smoothing out and including the significant elements. I haven’t read the books in a long time, so I no longer recall which events are in which book. By the way, when I first read that Roger ended up in 1739, it freaked me out, and I had to put down the book for MONTHS. Anyway, one part I REALLY loved which you didn’t mention was when Roger quickly pocketed the dog tags so that Geilis wouldn’t see it, realizing SHE would immediately know! Also, the sudden realization that the entire reason they are in that time is because his father and son have the same NAME! Wow. The stones are unpredictable. Oh, also, Roger in 1968 said his name was Roger Wakefield, not McKenzie. I love how she seems puzzled he seems familiar.

Buck had been treated for his " heart pains" in a families cottage by the Dr. who had healing powers( cast a blue light when he touched Buck). He also attempts to repair Rogers' throat. They eventually meet the Dr. again when he is visiting Geillis ( he is hot for her too). That's when they meet her. They do meet Dougal briefly when they were wandering around the countryside looking for Jem. (Looks like they are skipping getting the dog tags from BJ at Fort William).

I’m a book reader so I knew a lot that was going to happen, BUT there were great surprises anyway. Loved it all but felt the Ian & Rachel part does need a bit more development. I don’t feel that “love urgency” between them. They packed a lot into this episode. But I felt Roger’s part with all his inner dialogue & facial expressions stole the show, with Claire’s grief coming in a close second. Sure hope Gellis & Dougal are seen again - they are both so good. And I do want Jenny to join them in America - imagine her seeing this brand new country being born! It always feels like next Friday is so far away. And I am going to be so rushed & busy! I just want to savor what is left of this wonderful saga- sure is the wrong time of the year for me to be trying to lap it all up. Damn Starz - holding this sooo long!

Well, this episode really furthered the plot, didn’t it? lol Lots to say…. - I loved the double meaning of “Brotherly Love”, with the flashback with Jamie and his brother, and then the episode is in Philadelphia. Clever. - Yeah, the nephew situation makes slightly more sense if he had been seen by surgeons already and one bullet had already been removed. But asking Claire to cross the ocean for this is still kinda un-credible to me. - As far as Ian’s death, (which was well done), maybe nobody wants to be digging a grave while the person is still alive? I mean, if you’re Old Ian, do you want to look out the window and see people digging a hole for you? Yeesh, maybe not. They weren’t certain how long he would last, anyway. - Tracey, i’m confused at your confusion about Lord John resigning his commission. I just assumed he told Claire about that in the letter (or Claire already had heard about that some other way), and Claire was just surprised to still see him in uniform when she finally sees him in person. And then he says “They still let me wear it as a courtesy.” Seems to make sense to me? - I just assumed Buck knew who his parents were, because most people do. But it seems like he doesn’t?? - Regarding William-Rachel-Ian: Like I said before, Rachel isn’t the kind of girl who’s down for a roll in the hay, and a wealthy Earl like William is not bringing home a simple Quaker girl from the Colonies to be his wife. It’s just not happening in real life, no matter how smitten William is. -Come to think of it, why is Claire putting her own life in danger to smuggle messages to the Rebels, when she already knows the Americans will win the war even if she doesn’t do anything? lol Time-travelers aren’t always logical, I guess. - I just wasn’t affected by Claire’s reaction to Jamie’s “death”, because everyone knows he’s not dead. It’s common sense - you don’t need to know the books to deduce that. And that’s “DOCTOR Franklin”, to you, Jamie! Not Mister!
@Myoutlanderpurgatory9 сағат бұрын
You know, as I was editing the video, I totally realized what I had missed re: the commission-it was the uniform PERIOD that threw Claire. I’m blaming my Thanksgiving food coma lol.

There was a lot packed in this episode. Seeing Gailes and then Dougal, OMG. Then Roger's father's dog tags. Is he going to see his father? I don't think he does in ghe book but it's wide open what they allow to happen on the screen. The unknown of all this adds new intrigue which is welcome. Then, and here I fully agree with you, what's the deal with the lame scene with Bug and Rachel? Seriously, this looks like an initial walk through scene where they pull back all the action sequences. I am sure there were several remakes of this scene and then they screwed up and instead of using the best take they screwed up and used the walk through scene. As soon as I saw Bug have Rachel I thought what the hell. She was never restrained by Bug. Loose goosy limp arm restraint. And the dialog was poor. This was a critical scene and it was entirely lacking. Same for the anticipated scene on Ian and Rachel together. They were alone so there was no need for the restrained dialog. There should have been some passion. Or even a touch by Rachel towards Ian and to show us her passionate feelings coupled with her religious restraint. This should have had so much more love and tenderness shown. I have the same confusion you have on where Clair was staying. No mention of where or why. No direction at all. Completly missing part of the story. The spy bit was lame. Performed once as a favor and then no mention until the end that she had become a regular spy. What was she thinking? Oh wait! She wasn't thinking. Roger's scenes are the best. All of them. The end scenes when she learns of Jamie's death was compelling. Good acting. But the scenes where Lord John blairs out for her to marry him were awful. He needed to tell Claire the story in a gentle way instead of just rushing it all out. He could have sit down with her and laid out what was likely to happen and proposed the only solution that would keep her from bring hanged. They shair loving Jamie and this could have been a gentle and obviously an awkward scene but fully nessary. There need not have been any confusion as to what or why Lord John was asking. In general, for the writing, there was genius as well as sloppy writing on critical scenes. Missed opportunities. Great scenes and sub-standard scenes. Don't get me wrong. I have read the books and love the story line and fully endorse some embellishment of the story but with so much time between seasons I expected better. Still, looking forward to the continuing saga.

~Y'all there are simple answers to your questions. Jamie is left handed in the book. Sam is right-handed. Although he could have learned to sword fight with his left hand the decision was made to let him use his dominant hand in order to quickly obtain and demonstrate mastery. Ian, therefore, is on his left. ~As for them being on their favorite spot - Jamie/Sam effortlessly carried Ian/Steven to the laird's chamber, which is upstairs. It follows that he either carried Ian to the carriage and lifted him onto it, or Ian walked part of the way and Jamie did the rest. They wanted to reminisce. It was worth it. ~Ian was flanked by his soulmates - the two people that meant the most to him in all the world. He needed their love, strength and support. And he left them with his final words of love. ~I infer that he didn't want his children to see him die. He was the same with them as he was with young Ian. He wanted them to go on living full lives and remember him alive. ~The dying person and his last wishes have precedence over everyone else's. That honors the loved one. That scene rang true! There was peaceful acceptance. It was beautifully played. ~Jamie would absolutely want to dig the grave. It was his last act of service to his brother. ~Lord John was only in uniform to protect Mercy and his nephew. Mercy is a rebel. Claire was shocked to see him wearing it because he had resigned his commission and she thought he'd returned to service. But the uniform was his to wear whenever he chose. ~Claire was staying at Lord John's, but he was staying with Mercy to be near Henry. He was there day and night until after the successful surgery. But she was also often at Mercy's watching over Henry. Your boarding house was actually Lord John's mansion. Remember Mrs. Figg from the books? She's LJ's housekeeper and cook extraordinaire. ~Claire wore an apron to protect her clothes from blood and her sleeves were rolled up. ~Ian is off looking for Rachel. He has not left Philly yet. ~Rachel doesn't like William's rosary because Quakers don't believe in that sort of thing. They think it's wrong. She distracts herself in order to be kind. ~ Rachel didn't fight because Quaker's are pacifists. Which is weird, because it would be in Rachel's nature to fight. I guess she chose to stick to her principles. ~Ian was a rebel in a British occupied city. I'm not sure he could carry any weapons. Only the British could. I think... ~I think Ian and Rachel are adorable! (They are at Mercy's house because Claire had just bandaged him.) He is who he is and she is able to accept it because she loves him. The wolf illustration is beautiful. He is a wolf in practice. He's part of the Wolf clan. A fighter. A risk taker. Canny. Don't forget all he's learned and been through with the Mohawk. The loss he's experienced. He was a loner, like a lone wolf, for a long time. But gradually, with the resolution he has with Emily, and knowing he's fathered a son, healing has taken place. And he is now able to love Rachel except for that pesky Bug. Obstacle gone. (Thanks William!) Much was made that he is a combination of Highlander and Mohawk. Fierce when he needs to be. But tender. Rachel knows she cannot tame his actions. And will not try. He's supposed to be a younger version of Jamie. ~Claire is coming home to LJ's from the gardens and there she finds out that Jamie is gone. She then holes up in her bedroom. But after Richardson tells LJ that she's going to be arrested he bounds upstairs and unlocks Claire's room. He clearly has a master key. And then he tries to save her. ~Caitriona was amazing, amazing, amazing. David Berry is no slouch. What a ride! LOVED it! ~They brought closure and moved the story forward. What an episode! We have to remember that at this point they thought S7 was the last one. It wasn't until halfway through the shoot that they found out they had been renewed for S8. That's why everything is condensed. ~Next week is going to be very interesting...I can't wait since Cait has said that this episode really challenged her. She had a hard time finding her way into how to approach it. The hardest scene of the whole show. I'm counting the days!
