Both beautiful and terrible, the Goddess Hel is keeper of the dead, lays judgement on souls, and decides who is reborn. She is both sides of two extremes. As the daughter of Loki, the trickster God, Hel's destiny, much like her brothers Fenrir and Jormungandr, was doomed to darkness from the start. Odin, the All-Father, uncovered prophecies that Hel and her siblings would be the source of great calamity resulting in Ragnarok, the battle that would end all things. In an effort to prevent this, he cast each of the three into different realms; not quite a prison, though far from freedom. For Hel, Odin gave her charge of the realm of the dead, specifically those that died of sickness and old age. For himself, Odin retained Valhalla for those that died in battle. At birth, Hel's face was cast in half shadow, half light; she was both living and dead, so took immediately and graciously to her new role, gifting Odin with the ravens Huginn and Muninn in appreciation. As the spirits of the kind-hearted, the sick, the elderly were brought to her, she cared for them, gave them comfort, yet those she deemed evil she mercilessly hurled into the frozen depths of Niflheim. Yet, despite Odin's efforts, destiny cannot be averted. Hel's conflicting struggle between benevolence and malice will force her to one extreme or the other. A time will come when Hel will fulfill her prophecy, though it is yet unknown if she will be a shadow of darkness or a force of light. What side will she choose?

Love the art for the video. Makes you feel bad for Hel, as if Odin hadn't screwed over her and her brothers, Ragnarok would have been avoided. But in his fear to prevent it, Odin set it in motion.

Good afternoon gentlemen, loved the song and the video. I love Norse religion and their ways, their stories are excellent and Brothers of Metal do a wonderful job in sharing those tales. The old Norse being used at the start of the video was very cool. I suppose the likes of Brothers of Metal and Amon Amarth are to Norse Mythology what Sabaton is to History/battles/warfare. Totally random, but gotta love the names of Swedes. Nifelheim's members' names: Erik Gustavsson, Per Gustavsson, Tobias Gustafsson. Names of the participants on the "The Last Stand" album from Sabaton: Pär Sundström, Anders Sandström, Tomas Nyström, Marie-Louise Strömqvist. I bet during the making of that album they all ate a lot of surströmming. Ba dum tss. People in Brothers of Metal: Ylva Eriksson, Gustav Eriksson, Joakim Eriksson, as well as Pähr Nilsson and Mats Nilsson. None of them are related to each other. It's like an English band that only has members called Smith or a German band where all members are called Müller.

I highly suggest this album. Has a lot of solid songs, including two others about Loki's kids, Chain breaker for Fenrir, and Powersnake for Jorgmungandr. Plus, they have a song called "Emblas Saga" which is the Norse start of the world...and its as metal as Ragnarok.

Hi guys! Its me again, your personal Swede. School was a long time ago, so someone might correct me. How ever, think Hel is Lokis daughter who was sent to the underworld by Odin to rule the souls of who didn't end up in Valhalla (meaning didn't die in battle). She is kinda like twoface in batman, with one side being stunningly beautiful, while the other like a rotting corpse. My favorite child of Loki is Slejpnir. From that time Loki got raped by a stallion and gave birth to a 8th legged horse(cant wait for BoM to make a song about that!). Stay safe!

BoM gjorde faktiskt en sång om Sleipnir på den första plattan. När det gäller Hel så är du helt rätt ute, Hel är dotter till Loke och Angerboda, Hel har två bröder; Fenrisulven och Midgårdsormen. När det gäller vem som kommer till Helheim, eller inte, så är (om jag inte har helt fel) det som du skrev, de som inte dog i strid som hamnar i Helheim. Enligt Wikipedia (världens mest pålitliga informationskälla någonsin som ALDRIG har fel...lol) så finns det även andra källor som säger att det bara är brottslingar som hamnar i Helheim, inte alla ovalda. Extra fakta: De som drunknade samlades till gästabud på havets botten av gudinnan Ran. Så utöver Valhall, Folkvang och Helheim fanns det även ett fjärde ställe, tydligen; alltså Rans gästabud.
