@@BrothersMake I didn't spot it first time around, I had to go back and watch the video again. Luckily, it was quite early on. For anyone else puzzled about this comment, at around 0:31 they draw around the knife tang using a washer to provide a uniformly oversized template for moulding the plastic.

Three things: 1) Awesome job! Those scales look great (as does the entire knife)! 2) Do we really know what kinds of glue will work with the HDPE sufficiently to adhere to a tang? Has anyone glued some up without pins and tried to rip them off to see what the adhesion was like. 3) I just looked out in my garage...every single motor oil and ATF bottle was #2 HDPE. If you want a ready source of HDPE< hit your buddies up for their old oil bottles. My Mobil1 comes in a nice shiny gray/silver color (to mix with black), some STP oil of my son's was a sort of sparkly red, I think the colors would be endless. You'd just have to clean them well but heck...drain good, strip them up. into a tub of hot water and soap, I think you could do it fine. Thoughts?
@BrothersMake4 жыл бұрын
1) thanks! 2) yeah, we’ve done a decent amount of testing and it’s just so non-porous that the glue has a hard time. Apparently there are specialist glues that could possibly work but we haven’t found the need to investigate that 3) we have actually used oil and antifreeze bottles already, they’re a great source of HDPE!
