Awesome. As a relative novice,I matched a tiny mayfly perfectly and parachuted it into the expanding circle made by a big brown that was feeding in still water during golden hour and I’ll never forget that take or how handsome that fish was. Stay huge.

I heard you mention the Gunpowder and got excited but then you said it was in Murh-land and i was like "oh, the one I fish is in Maryland, must be a different one." Then i thought about it. Clearly youve been through the state if youve picked up on the accent. Very fun to hear the impression. Nice video.

My first ever brown trout that I caught was in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas. I was pulling in 12-16” rainbows all day, but that little 8” brown made my entire day.

At the coalition base in Kandahar Afghanistan there was huge sewage pond known affectionately as the “poo pond”. There was a homemade sign next to it that said “don’t keep the brown trout”.

The only thing I can think of is the Cooper River for that coastal SC dot. Doesn't make sense trout wise, but searching the name says there's trout in there.

Although I like all of your videos, this is one of your best! I really enjoyed not only the history of the brown trout but its characteristics and lifestyle. It is a very sought after trout. From my 55 years of fishing for trout ,I agree with you that they are the smarter of the trout species. You will know they’re there but will avoid you like the plague. Most times only moving out of their hiding spots under the cover of darkness during late night hours. And you will know when you get a big one on. Again, like you said they can really lose their temper and use any ploy they can think of to break you off or throw the fly. And they will bulldog and use violent head shakes and screaming runs in the meantime. All in all an awesome vid! Looking forward to maybe a series. Next cover other trout species. Tightlines!!

My grandpa called Browns trash fish. Brook and rainbows were the real deal. Fast forward 100 years, I am happy to catch any of the species.

Bigger browns can be more migratory. They occupy the ideal water with most forage, and at times thats down low in the marginal water

Great Video. Catch rainbows all day but that one Brown makes my day.

If the fish at my location are a majority brown trout I will exclusively fish for them at night. Even the smaller ones will strike at 4" streamers and juicy mice. It's nice hooking into a surprise smallie at those times as well.

What is the material difference between fishing for browns moving towards redds vs fishing on a redd? Serious question. Is catching a big hen full of eggs or a buck full of milt that gets ejected when you bring them to hand more ethical than yanking a fish off a redd? I’d be perfectly happy with closed seasons that coincide with the movement of trout towards redds and on through the spawning cycle. I’m old enough to remember when this wasn’t an issue because the season had an end date that was prior to the onset of spawning.

A rainbow will always out fight a brown trout. The browns dive while the rainbows come tail walking out of the water.

Sir, you are allowed one free google search to prove your theory, lol....unless its a joke and I took it literally, but man, that's a dry one, and I aint used to that (;

While I would never call another trout a 'trash fish', I definitely don't want them anywhere near here. That being said, when I'm down south, they're all I want to fish for. Fun vid, Ben.

On my ship in the Navy the crappers had bad plumbing and overflowed CONSTANTLY for like 2 years. We'd have to walk around the turds to get to the showers. Finally congress did something and no more problems. But a standing joke (which I started) was 'cast over there I saw a brown trout !!) LMAO !!!

So with the fewer fish but bigger further downstream, my theory is that the larger fish are just hardier, and can handle slightly warmer water temps. I'm no expert though, really have no idea

Is there a scientific explanation for the variability in patterning and colors of brown trout? Golden belly or light brown belly, red spots or no red spots?

Love this video. If you’re interested in trout speciation and individual habitat adaptations, you should read Trout of the World by James Prosek. The author traveled the world and did a water color painting of each trout and salmon he caught in different parts of the world!

Browns are weird me and my uncle a quite were fishing the green and he said according to studies the part of the river we were fishing was 60% browns we didn’t catch a single brown we did hook one though but in a different spot where the brown population is around 40% we caught more browns than rainbows

We’re the first browns from Hofer Germany imported by Seth Green clean or infected with WD and if not how are we using the progeny of the rainbows traded by Seth to Germany for Browns,I believe that the WD has been here since the first importation, your thoughts please
