I was told by some one it’s called the heel technique. Basically it allows a drummer to play bass drum twice as fast which apparently is why he is able to play these songs with one bass drum. It’s pretty cool I think

@@ajjy1110 well as I mentioned someone told me this I didn’t say I knew this. And to be fair I made a few googles and your not correct as well. He doesn’t slide his foot left and right. He slides of forward and does almost a double kick with his foot. It’s called the gallop or something like this.

As a drummer of 37 years I've seen many different drum position arrangements but I'll never understand why Nico ever started setting up his kit like that. His drum and cymbal placements are an ergonomical nightmare. ...AND HE STILL ROCKS THE HELL OUT OF IT!!🤘💀🤘

When I did drum I also angled stuff, maybe less high up bit angled. Makes it easier to go over all toms in a short time.

The thing with Nico is, he'll sit on your kid's 5 piece drum kit and even then play like something you never saw before in your life. He's incredibly versatile. Who knows why he went for this setup.. was it the fashion amongst some Big Stage drummers at the time? Or he just felt like it? Years later he's playing jsut as well at Rock n Roll Ribs gigs on a more basic drum kit....

Was in the Stanley ID mercantile yesterday and was blown away at the music playing 8n the store. Iron Maiden in all of it’s glory was filling the local business. I waited n line and the first thing I said to the cashier was “in all of my life I have never heard Maiden played in a store”. Followed by “you guys have the best taste in tunes over every place I have lived/visited. I am a Navy veteran and retired Army that has lived in and visited many countries. UP THE IRONS!!! 🤘🤘🤘

As not a drummer i'm always amazed when i watch drummer with huge talent and technics as N.McBrain. Like when i noticed that sometimes he hit near the side of the snare and sometimes in the center. And if i'm not mistaken it look like it's on purpose to me and not just randomly.

I for one underestimated the true input of the right foot until you guessed it, I had a bash myself. I'm glad I had a double pedal arrangement to fall back on. As for Nicko, like Mr Bonham I believe I'm right in saying, is quite adept with but the one. Can't say fairer than that.

@@hugolafhugolaf That isn’t the point. The material he played on didn’t call for acrobatics. But, for me, from British Steel thru Screaming For Vengeance he was as solid as they came. Further, I don’t consider him, specifically, as a “Heavy Metal drummer”, unlike his successor. That’s what set the band apart during that 3-album run.

Absolutely amazing. Yeah that Gallup on his foot pedal in the way his symbols are arranged especially the ride is weird but it works for him I guess. Yeah that song is super hard and he killed it.

It's funny, you learn all about the ergonomics of drumming....keep the snare around belt high, relatively low angle, keep your knees below your waist, cymbal height, placement, etc... Then Nicko McBrain says "or you could just do what you like and be one of the best drummers ever" hehe.

I’ve always been curious of this. Nicko always belts out his voice on drum parts, especially at the beginning. Wouldn’t the sensitive overhead mics possibly pick up his voice in a Live situation to some extent? I’d feel like it would be somewhat audible to the audience because he’s definitely not quiet lol.

He is like Lars in the way that they forget most of their parts, so they improvise instead, nothing against Nicko,just bad memory. I like 7th son cd and everything maiden did before that, you couldn't come up with better drum parts for those songs,he is probably my biggest influence
