There is also a letter written in Oct. 30, 1939, by Mary J. Phillips of Darien Georgia, where she used the word "boogaloo" This is the earliest usage on record so far of the word "boogaloo" to describe someone. Notice in all documented recorded cases, they have a common theme. 1)They all refer to a free spirited, happy-go-lucky, or free flowing person. 2)They all refer to African Americans 3)They all refer to people or origins in the Midwest or South. NOT NYC or Latin America!

I saw the Black Resurgents perform at an event at my school. The performance was amazing! The crews that made that started this amazing art form need to be given the credit they deserve.

The Boogaloo term was coined before 1966. First song to use the term "boogaloo" was 1965, R&B Duo Tom and Jerrio out of the midwest region in the USA. This song became a NATIONWIDE hit in the black community and "boogaloo" became part of the slang vocabulary of young Black people at that time.

One of the earliest applications of the term "boogaloo" seems to center on "boogie woogie" pianist Abie "Boogaloo" Ames who, according to the Washington Post's obit, received that nickname in the 1940s. BTW, Abie "Boogaloo" Ames was born in Georgia, USA. , not in NYC. nor anywhere in Latin America (Puerto Rico)

In the Bay Area, Kung Fu shoes were gangsta back in the day. They were hella cheap but didn't last long especially the white soled ones because of the canvas soles. For us Flips that was our uniform...Members Only, Cotler baggies, and Kung Fu shoes.

Thanks Lanier! Although I have to give credit to my man Mistaecko for providing the documentation, which ultimately debunked these lies being spread by Mr. Wiggles and co. I just hope people will read this so that they will know what's up. "Boogaloo" Ames moved to Detroit and worked with Barry Gordy for Motown, which would also explain how the Boogaloo term made its way to the midwest region, where Tom and Jerrio introduced their hit single "Do The Boogaloo" to a national audience in 1965.

An YEAR later, in 1966 NYC, Ricardo Ray (aka Richie Ray) and Bobby Cruz hopped on the bandwagon and became the first Latin music artists to directly give the already existing R&B "boogaloo" a Latin rhythm makeover, dubbing it "the bugaloo" for their album, Se Soltó in order to win over the black audience, and was accepted by Blacks who saw this as an adaptation of an ALREADY existing "Boogaloo" scene. American Bandstand introduced "Boogaloo" to young White audiences, not the Black community.

Hello all- This is yo boy DUBB- I am one of the original members of the #1 group of our era 1980-84 "THE GENTLEMEN OF PRODUCTION" straight out of West Oakland. The Boogaloo originated out of Oakland and that's a fact. What yall know about Mosswood Park

I agree Lanier, Boogaloo appears to be an offshoot of "Boogie" or "Boogie Woogie" which was used to refer to A free flowing form of dance and piano playing style in the South during the period around WW1. Peace.

the baddest group to boogaloo and robot was the BLACK MESSENGERS .they set the tone 4 cali dancers and beyond if it was not for the Messengers ther would not be no poppin,or pop locking because east oakland had the best dancers with groups like 1+1,exzotic movement,soulful movements.aces of soul,black resurgents,pt 3000 im glad that the dance went world wide in diffrent people added their style to what east oakland started i thank L.A 4doing their popping and locking that why the west is tight

donald parks the black resurgents was tight, especially when they came out of coffins one time, but the baddest, hardest robots came from frisco, richmond, and vallejo. That would be, close encounters of the funkiest kind, the androids, and jay king and the unknowns. Those cats changed the way we got down, and all of them turned in multiple legendary performances that still have us who seen them in awe.

I grew up in the bay area and while many claim the roots of poppin, boogaloo,robot,strutting etc... The west coast,cali inparticular was serious bout it and thats why it was evolutionized here.We had shows n contests school dances all over the bay and Southern Cali cats did ther thing too as we know.. James brown did a boogaloo,the word comes from latin R&B but none one made these dances evolve like the California Hoods from Northen 2 Southern California we lit up the world bottomline!!!

I got chuck on the phone and after relaying this new twist events he says wiggles done bumped his head. I say EB's have more twist and turns on the truth of who created Boogaloo then Kung Fu has moves. In the new Thomas Sanchez documentary he talks about a group called One Plus One. Which was the first Boogaloo group out of Oakland that started in the 60s. I am fairly certain they were dancing to James Brown, not to some so called Latin boogaloo beats.

Hey I know this sounds a bit out there, BUT, Chuck said it was on the new documentary that Thomas Sanchez has been showing. I guess since Chuck is on there he got to see the vid. Thomas is not saying when it is going be available for purchase.

I forgot that they used to pitch up the music (Planet Rock, Looking for the Perfect Beat, Murda Rock, Pack Jam, etc.) and pop to it. I never understood why that was done & I've never seen it done anywhere else. Definitely a Bay thing.

@JoeDatGo "Boogaloo or bugalú (also, shing-a-ling, Latin boogaloo, Latin R&B) is a genre of Latin music and dance that was popular in the United States in the 1960s. Boogaloo originated in New York City among teenage Cubans, Puerto Ricans and other groups. The style was a fusion of popular African American R&B and soul with mambo and son montuno. It included the use of English lyrics as well as Spanish. Boogaloo entered the mainstream through the American Bandstand television program." LIES???

The funny things about this video is that the EB's are not even doing Boogaloo, They are creepin, doing puppet, popping, etc. Everything you see them do in this video was a direct rip off from Oakland and a poor one at that. True Boogaloo is something that Chuck, and Will and Vic Randolph can do. Even the moves you see the later EB's do is very similar to what some of the cats in Oakland were doing in the early to mid 70's.

west coast is still holding it down yall need to understand the history about the dance that came from east oakland and the only way 2 understand the dance is to dill with 1 of the OG's from the Messengers are the black resurgents are pt 3000
@chaosnorder
@chaosnorder 15 жыл бұрын
The reason why PopTart, Fayzo cannot do it is because they came on the scene in the middle to late 70's. They are strutters. The Resurgents came much earlier and combined boogaloo with stepping. When you look at the "1980 Electric Boogaloo" youtube video these are the type of moves you would have witnesses at the Oakland talent shows in 74, 75, 76. The only difference is you would have scene much better performances at the Oakland talents shows.

How is Boogaloo Sam the sole creator of "boogaloo" style if, he already knew of and was influenced by a style called "boogaloo" in Oakland? "Electric Boogaloo" is not the same as "boogaloo", according to the EB's. "A lot of people ask what Electric Boogaloo style is. Electric Boogaloo style is combining popping and boogaloo style together. The two styles compliment each other well and is known worldwide as the signature style of the EB's. "- From the Electric Boogaloos homepage

@chaosnorder 15 жыл бұрын
I also heard from Chuck that Sam is mad at Thomas Sanchez because Thomas found the cat who taught Sam how to dance, who happened to be from Fresno as well. That kind of debunks the theory that Sam created Boogaloo. How is wiggles going try to justify something that he really knows nothing about. If he grew up in Oakland and experienced this dances in its creation he would realize how moronic this all sounds.

@chaosnorder
@chaosnorder 15 жыл бұрын
Not even worth arguing about this because no matter what you say they will just twist it in a way that benefits them monetarily. I personally think that Sam filmed the Oakland Talents shows that took place at the Oakland Auditorium in 74,75,76. Because a lot of the moves they were doing in the late 70s and 80s were a direct rip off from all the different styles that people were doing in Oakland in the mid 70s.

You still haven't answered my question, how is Boogaloo Sam the sole creator of "boogaloo" style if he already knew of and was influenced by a style called "boogaloo" in Oakland? "Electric Boogaloo" is not the same as "boogaloo", according to the EB's. Sam claims to be the sole creator of "boogaloo". Also, Fillmore is spelled with two L's.
