I saw Bruce at the Australian National University in 1989. Brilliant then. Brilliant now. Pity the world has not learnt from his wonderful lyrics. I only discovered this song last week. Can't stop playing it.

Glad Australians have heard Bruce. He's been my favourite since 84' when I was in my mid teens and was first introduced to his music. He's an officer of the Order of Canada. His songs speak of compassion and his actions show that compassion. Besides being a fantastic singer/songwriter/guitarist he's a man of his word.

So amazed at Bruce's longevity and the incredible volume of his repertoire. Very diverse too. No two albums really ever sound too similar. Truly the sign of a great artist.

Have you seen him live? If not I hope you get to. A Bruce Cockburn concert is an experience not to be forgotten. He's still got it and I honestly think he always will. Seen him 3 times in concert since 86', and would go again if he tours after covid. Truly inspirational.

I'm sipping Flor De Cana and lime juice, it's 3 A.M. Blow a fruit fly off the rim of my glass The radio's playing Superchunk and the friends of Dean Martinez Midnight it was bike tires whacking the pot holes Milling humans' shivering energy glow Fusing the space between them with bar-throb bass and laughter If this were the last night of the world What would I do? What would I do that was different Unless it was champagne with you? I learned as a child not to trust in my body I've carried that burden through my life But there's a day when we all have to be pried loose If this were the last night of the world What would I do? What would I do that was different Unless it was champagne with you? I've seen the flame of hope among the hopeless And that was truly the biggest heartbreak of all That was the straw that broke me open If this were the last night of the world What would I do? Its a pity that this song wasn't released earlier than 1999. Because it would have fit perfectly with this low budget Don Mckellar movie called "Last Night" which was about the last night of the world in Toronto. It was a very chilling, very thought provoking and very Canadian movie(I mean that in a good way).

I have always thought this is a great song, however I don't think the video does it justice. Focusing too much on young people, or whatever the market is all about these days, why not just depict an interlude that reflects what the song is really about?
