Tip: To easily get off two punches off the one drop step, roughly half way through the first punch, the second punch fires. This allows to hit the target twice with one beat as your drop step lands.

I really like that Sifu Quintero said it's better to hit a pad than air. This principle, applied to every extended strike I practice, has given me healthy joint longevity that I never would have if I was always hitting air.

Dan Lok...i've only discovered your video abt 2 mths ago and brought back some memories of my own street fighting. I wish there was your video back then lol. I grew up in an era of street fighting and an environment of Chinese Triads in the 70s. There was no shortage of fights back then though i would stay away from a fight today. Over here, street fights are usually with weapons. The most common is the iron pipes about 2 to 3 feet long or a stick or a Parang. Thats how dangerous it was back then. Most of the time, there was no time for stance or to think. Martial Arts training and fight experience enhance one's reflexes. Gang fights can be quite messy and chaotic. It all happens very fast and you need to get away before the police arrives but that would be a good 10 to 15 minutes...lots can happen in that time. The concept of intercepting fist was an automatic lesson back then though we didnt have a fancy name for it. Bruce Lee had street fighting experience and understood the need to take down an opponent fast. Back then, there wasnt much you push me i push u stuff. We just start whacking each other. Sometimes without warning your opponent just comes at you. If unlucky, with weapons too. Anyway, great videos from you. Kudos.

Yes I agree very much with Joey Kane's reply(comments) "what worked for him may not....". Yes JKD is about fighting "your way", after you've "learnt a certain way", to best suit oneself, as in "natural".

Thank you. From a Wing Chun background... i find that the Chain and Blast punch is most effective when you have control of the inside gate. From the outside gate or lunging in... you often find them covering up or parrying if you can't break/collapse his block. I'm a smaller guy so I have to control the inner gate to get in... it's tough for me to stay outside because of the reach disadvantage. When I have control of the "inside gate", i can do as i wish.

Awesome video, nice descriptions of techniques, distance, feel, stance, etc. The more you practice being loose and limber, then BAM, explode into the strike, the better it gets. Good that you mentioned to not have all the weight on the front leg, but move the body in unison with good posture and balance. Cool to see you and Octavio do that as you move, loose then your stance and body bursts forward rapidly. Is that your new gym? Looks like a good training space

I was trained this a long time ago. We practiced with motorcycle helmets to see what it would feel like to take on a straight blast. Done right, this move will run someone over like a tank.
@michaelangel25
@michaelangel25 4 жыл бұрын
Straight blast can be effective due to speed and efficiency. In fact, I prefer speedy ‘arm’ punching than putting too much body into a shot because they take more time and energy to execute, and they’re slower and can put you off balance if you miss. Undefeated British boxer Joe Calzaghe used similar style punches. In his fight with power puncher Jeff Lacy, Calzaghe’s speedy arm punches totally prevented Lacy from winding up a power shot. Every time he attempted to, Calzaghe had already nailed him with 6 shots.

My advice is to practice at the start on a steady target and in a sequence of three strokes at a time and continue from the same position to the next sequence so that at the beginning of each sequence you start with another hand and only after you reach the perfect and powerful technique to start practicing on a moving target and moving forward.

I personally think wing chun is very effective. Its just that almost every guy who does chi sao weather jkd or wc have pretty bad posterior pelvic tilt. Your back must be hurting pretty bad. I saw this picture of ip man and his posture was catastrophic. Maybe address that? For your own health! Do prone cobra and L sits to strengthen the entire back and hip flexors. Stretch out your abs doing a normal cobra pose. And also stretch your hamstrings. Don't do a pike stretch though. That is gonna be harsh on your lower back. Do stretches with an anterior pelvic tilt.

Is JKD more of a philosophy than a style?
@JoeyKane7
@JoeyKane7 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, Jeet Kune Do or the way of the intercepting fist was at its utmost essence was a philosophy. Bruce Lee took what he found to be the most useful parts of many different styles of martial arts and put them together. He encouraged others to do the same, but while he was still alive so many of his students just chose to try and learn just the things that he did. This actually bothered him a great amount, as he knew that what worked for him would not work for everyone. Dan inosanto in an interview for Ip Man talked about how he can pass along JKD techniques and ideals, but could never standardize JKD. To do so would go against Bruce's vision. I do JKD also, but my base knowledge/style is from GoJu Ryu Karate, not Wing Chun. This is because from the age of 6 I learned GoJu Ryu, but I believe that there are useful things for people with my body type, speed, etc... in other arts that I can implement into my own JKD as well. I hope that helped answer the question
