It's so good to see Octavio Quintero in person showing these techniques, out of all the JKD exponents I've seen have always found his demos and clips on YT the closest to pure JKD in speed, movement and stance, but in none of them hearing him speak about what is going on. This is truly awesome guys, you are keeping the art alive and sharing the knowledge of Bruce Lee's incredible modern and still ahead of it's time fighting art. Thanks so much. It is so good to see others who practice the same concepts and techniques in unarmed self-defence in a world where there are very few who even know about Jeet Kune Do.

When you learn to bounce, you learn to move within the rhythm of the bounce! So, any trained opponent will start to see your rhythm and anticipate your timing. Good point!

Good and thorough video. At 7:26, realise teachers wouldn't see it due to where they're stood though, but Jack needs to get his stance back on the front foot toe, rear foot heel alignment much better as his groin is wide open to a shot. Think this alignment is the hardest thing to learn initially, but works great once inculcated through repetition. That's where having a line like Dan says about is a great tool for learning in the beginning.

Bruce actually did give a little away about the progeession of his art in TV and films, in Longstreet he demonstrates a little when he trains the main character and also in Game Of Death it was his wish to display the adpatibility of Jeet Kune Do to get around various styles where he is adopting the latest in his ideas and the development of JKD in the Pagoda scenes. Some of his JKD ideas are also seen in the colloseum fight where he is also using savatte and totally unconventional kung fu where he is sometimes fighting from a fairly wide almost side on horse power stance like a lot of karateka used in those times also in way ofthe dragon he is also using very old types of footwork from savatte again which is where he derived the pendulum and forward bursts described in text-books about this, he truly borrowed a lot of techniques and ideas from a wide variety of sources including his books and living masters of various arts.

Dan there's a playlist called 'hitting the wall' of Olympic channel. In the 6 episode, it's about the training an Olympic Fencer undergoes. It's mostly balancing, movement, upper body exercises. Do you think they could be useful for JKD??
@FrancisMaxino
@FrancisMaxino 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, because the way a fencer moves (but less flat footed and on the balls of the feet) is precisely from where JKD derives its footwork (this and also boxing and South East Asian martial arts).

What does"Be Water, My Friend"means
@trainyourselffit6829
@trainyourselffit6829 6 жыл бұрын
Means you have to able to always adapt to the particular situation you're faced with. Hence the rest of the quotation Bruce says: not verbatim by any means but 'when put in a cup, the water becomes the cup. When the opponent contracts I expand. When he expands, I contract.' Being flexible enough in terms of form/technique to be able to deal with all eventualities, in other words, and to take all of the openings made available to you by being loose but poised to do so with speed. Relaxed enough to just react without having to really think about what you're doing, Hope that helps. Hence having to stay emotionally calm enough to act in a relaxed, none tense way. But that takes decades of training. Much easier to grasp as a concept than to put into practice.

What if I'm right handed but left footed? Seriously, I'm what u called mixed handedness or cross dominance where I can do specific tasks better with one side and other tasks the other side.. Do you have any tips? For illustration i use my right hand for writing, cooking or playing badminton (stronger hand) while using left hand for picking up things or things that require some dexterity with the fingers.. For my feet I am way more comfortable using my left foot playing football and its way stronger/flexible than my right foot (mainly used for pivot)..

I'd love to learn all that Octavio Quintero could help me to discover within myself that i havent already. I would forget all that I have learned throughout my years to become a humble student of Sifu Octavio Quintero. I have a passion for Martial Arts in all its various forms. Im like a sponge that absorbs water so I would be easy to teach and on top of that I have an arsenal of my own but Jeet Kune Do is an art I just cant help but wanna learn and become the best I can be at it. Thanks for all the videos filled with pearls and gems. Keep up the good work guys. You rock!!!

nowadays we have grappling or Brazilian jiu-Jitsu, especially kid fans who likes to adopt these grabbing techniques. and the footwork of the kicker - puncher must be carefully executed towards grabbers. this is true in HUNT KING DO.
