It's ironic one of the greatest engineers of all time (Mr. Bruce Swedien) was recorded with sub-par audio. I cranked the volume up and stll strained to hear him. Swedien is genius.

This ones going into my archives. I'm just discovering Swedien. Another great engineer was his protege, Ed Cherney (also passed away. ) Cherney said that Swedien told him, "don't listen TO the speakers, listen THROUGH the speakers." A true guru of the recording world if there ever was one.

Here is a nice method. Like Quincy Jones said. Put ur music on a small speaker and see what it does. I work with what I have. Take your PC speakers and turn the Sub Woofer all the way up and the Volume like 1/2 not 2 loud. If using Protools. Enable ur Mono Start Mixing. 2 hear your effect like, Disable your Mono. Tip. You can't Mix what you can not hear. I left you my secret because most people don't read. If this doesn't work. Go 2 the store and spend tons of money and still be up-set.

It’s so true about the primitive. Capture it as it is as much as possible. But doesn’t mean stop chasing the sound. But once you find it, their is no need to throw the kitchen sink at it. And a good song has its on life. I tell you what, sometimes a song, a good song writes itself. You start with a few chords and the melody just flows like water, then you hit the pre chorus and or chorus that gives you chills, as if it’s been written the whole time. I’d give anything to have been in a session with Bruce. Even though things like “Childhood” song recording session were leaked, it’s such an honor to see. MJ live singing with orchestra and Bruce at the board. Just raw takes and MJ was almost flawless. What a moment. I encourage everyone to KZbin “Michael Jackson Childhood Recording session” it’s like 23 minutes and worth every second. RIP to MJ and Bruce. Two of the greatest ever

I'm in my fifties now, but was twelve when I first heard Kajagoogoo's "Too Shy Shy". I remember that song's impact on me when I heard it back then, and get that same, albeit more reminiscent feeling, whenever I hear it played today. It's how that song makes me feel, more than any engineering aspect of it. But if it is "remsstered", or FUCKED WITH, as I put it, I will notice the difference, and will say, what was wrong with the Kajagoogoo songs the way we heard them when growing up?

Wow. Your are the truth. I have a small recording studio with 2 KRK Monitors Rokit 8 that cost about $250.00 each and 2 B52 Loud Speakers,$ 1,000 Each And a set of Small Boston Computer Speakers that came with my old 1998 Gateway. Out of all my money spent. Guess which one give me the best results for mixing and mastering. If you said Computer Speakers Your correct. It's what the industry has told us to do. B52 Loud Speakers with give you the Pump. Then your PC Speakers will let you Here.

Words of a wiseman. Yet, he himself used all possible tricks to enhance sound in Thriller. That's why among others it sounds so attractive. So I am a bit confused, should we add technology to enhance music or should we abandon it and use only primitive instincts. Because bad sounding synth or a kick drum is primitive, but isn't attractive without using technology to enhance it.

he famously hated compression on vocals. In an interview with Pensado he said Compression on vocals was for babies. If u listen to his MJ songs, there's no compression on The King"s vocals. So I think that's what he means.
