Good video - thanks for the info. One suggestion to anyone who is new to upgrading a computer... Never wear clothing like a sweater (or similar clothing) when working with computer components. It is possible to create static electricity, which can damage the computer. Wear a ESD badge and mount/ ground it to a non-static surface.
@lastmakc2 жыл бұрын
In theory, yes. Reality - very unlikely. It is a good caution, and it is always better be safe but in real world it will take quite a bit of static to damage anything. Games nexus conducted a vigorous experiment on their KZbin channel and concluded the chances are extremely low.

Hey James, I'm upgrading the same laptop SSD right now, and I'm using a Team Group 512gb m.2 2280 gen3x4 SSD.. I cant get it to boot to the ssd though, it keeps saying there is no bootable media? I have a USB flash drive plugged in with windows 10 loaded onto it (I've used it many times to install windows) but it doesn't seem to recognize the usb or the new ssd. Any ideas?
@BrueComputing4 жыл бұрын
How did you create the USB stick? Is it set up for Legacy CSM or UEFI booting? Have External Bootable devices been disabled in the BIOS? What options do you get if you load up the Boot menu?
@Sryofcrv14 жыл бұрын
@@BrueComputing I actually got it and forgot to update here. I'm not sure why but I made another win10 ISO file on a different USB flash drive and it worked totally fine. I'm not sure what was wrong with the other flash stick.

I have the same model of laptop (aside from having a 4700U CPU). My battery spans the entire width of the laptop. Is there a different battery that can be used (with the same or better Wh) which would free up the space where a HDD could go?

is it possible to change the processor?
@BrueComputing3 жыл бұрын
No. The CPU in pretty much all modern laptops is soldered down and can only be replaced by replacing the mainboard with one with a higher spec CPU on it.

I recently got this laptop and added 8GB of ram, giving me a total of 12GB which is great (2GB used by the Radeon GPU). I see a caddy for a 2.5 inch drive, but don't have a sata cable. Presumably there is a slot for a sata cable, given that there's a caddy for the 2.5 inch drive?
@Randomuk20252 жыл бұрын
No buddy, the slot is there for different configurations of the same case. If you have no sata connectors in the bay itself, you can't add a 2.5 ssd. There are no sata headers on that board. Just one m2 ssd available. Also, when buying memory, do you see dual channel? As using different manufacturers, speeds, voltages etc will not enable dual channel. Wondering what ram I need to get to achieve dual channel. This video doesn't state which is pre soldiered, which is important info to know trying to dual them uo.

hello, by chance you know if this change of ssd and the addition of ram cancels the product warranty?

I don't know the exact terms of Lenovo warranty, but I would always assume opening up the machine will invalidate the warranty. If you were to make a warranty claim I'd always return it to the original specification first.
