What a game by the Bruins, they truly showed no mercy! D-men really stepping up with Grizzy getting two and Krug assisting three! Sweeney’s trade deadline acquisitions coming in SUPER clutch, as Mojo and Coyle are playing phenomenally. Tuukka with a great performance once again. Weeks before I was born the Boston Celtics swept the Milwaukee Bucks out of the NBA East Finals. My dad it was the most lopsided conference Finals he had ever seen. Looking back on this series 3 years later, THIS was my version of that. I wouldn't say it was effortless or easy but at no point did I ever think Carolina was going to win a game even while it was going on. Sucks the Bruins couldn't seal the deal in the Finals

WOW has NBC announcing fallen off a cliff. Used to love these guys. You can tell they are in the bag for Carolina, having some little pathetic Coach K pep talk for the pre-game intro, looking for any reason to blame Mrazek for the loss. They were RAGGING on Mrazek badly, as if the Hurricanes weren't playing completely mediocre hockey. How many shots did they finish with??? 22???? LOL!!! You aren't beating the Bruins with 22 shots. @Flatus Antiquitous Hockey is a war of attrition. Without the 82 games you wouldn't have the Stanley Cup Playoffs. You must hate baseball with TWICE as many games. And hockey isn't lame or boring like American football. 16 games then what 3 games to win their ultimate prize. LAME AND BORING!!
@farque71795 жыл бұрын
@Flatus Antiquitous I've played hockey for over 50 years (still do, not professionally but we knew many pro's that use to come to my parents' house for late night breakfast after hanging out with my dad at his bar after the games). Growing up, I played with some NHL coaches. Player or coach, all very nice guys to this day. In 1960, the NHL was a 70 game season. In 1970, the season was 78 games so adding 4 more games and 20 teams in nearly 50 years means it's all about greed now? Not sure how you come to that conclusion. I surely don't agree at all. I think it's about spreading the gospel of the game. The intensity and speed is more so now while hatred between teams has simmered down due to the advent of free agency. My dad, who was an all-state athlete in several sports, who could have gone pro in 2 of them (went into the military instead) said the same as you about hockey and the games themselves were too long to boot. Then I analyzed each major North American pro sport with him. He changed his opinion by the time I got done. But he has always said that pro hockey players are the nicest of all pro athletes. Must be why he invited them to breakfast to our house pretty much every weekend during the season and they were more than grateful; I went to a ton of games for free as a kid along with getting free pucks and sticks. I saw no love for Dougie from his former B's teammates so far or towards Nash in the last series. I have no problem with the NHL marketing itself more or wanting to build their fan base; it's the coolest game on earth and if you ask me, the ONLY team sport that has the potential to be a true world league more than soccer ever could be (there are more players from various countries playing hockey than soccer; look it up!). Unless it has changed , only one US state doesn't have some level of a pro hockey team; Vermont of all places. I'll be Jonesing for hockey the day after the Cup is hoisted as I have done for over 50 years; I don't think there is enough! No such thing!! Even the pro's themselves play year round these days. Look how many are playing now at the IIHF Worlds. I see some at the rinks when I go play and have played with some in my beer league if you can believe it. Thankfully they take it real easy on us and are there because they know or are related to guys in our league and do it to give us some jollies of playing with real pros. The owners are greedy (can't stand Jacobs for that reason) but the players are still the best of all pro athletes by far.
@farque71795 жыл бұрын
@Flatus Antiquitous What happened, did my reply get deleted?? I thought it was a great response too. I've been playing hockey for over 50 years and still do. I grew up playing with guys that went pro and now coach in the NHL. And every so often I get the privilege of playing with current and former pros. Maybe team rivalries have died down due to the advent of free agency but the intensity and speed has increased dramatically. Also, the fans don't let the players forget our "hatred" of certain teams. At least in Boston any ways. In 1970, the NHL played 78 games and had 12 teams. So you are saying total greed led them to add 4 more games to the schedule in 50 years?? Your argument makes zero sense and I stand by my claim. And the league added 20 teams to boot. Or did you want them to stay a 12 team league which would be boreing as hell. I don't fault the NHL for marketing to grow the coolest game on earth. I applaud them. And hockey players today are the same great guys the were 50 years ago. I know pros from then and I know pros playing now. The big difference is, so many of these kids now are so giving to fans and donate so much time and money because they can, not because they have to and that makes them the best pro athletes BY FAR!! You think guys lose teeth and stay in the game to finish NOW because they are greedy??? Hockey is the only pro sport where the players pretend NOT to be hurt. Don't confuse ownership with the guys playing the game please, you do a great disservice to those ice warriors
@farque71795 жыл бұрын
@Flatus Antiquitous You can't compare a high school schedule to the pros and we are talking pro hockey. No offense. And in 1970, the NHL played 78 games with 12 teams and in 50 years they've added only 4 more games to the schedule and 19 teams to the league. When you run a marathon, do you start off sprinting? Smart teams in today's NHL keep pace to stay in the race and deal with injuries along the way and some more than others; the first battle of attrition to get through. So today's NHL mentality is to make sure you are in the race by the American Thanksgiving. The 2nd battle begins in January. Jockeying for position. Look at the 4 remaining teams and look at their winning percentages since January. They all had the best winning percentages with Tampa being the exception and I said it at the beginning of the playoffs; Tampa will be eliminated in the first round because they wanted to sprint during a marathon and will have no gas left when it counted most. I wasn't wrong. This season, Boston had a ton of injuries to key players for long stretches and they got it done most of the year by committee with role players and rookies when most analysts were clueless and wondering how the hell are these guys winning?? It was that long season that helped them get to be where they are now. They finished 3rd overall, 2nd in the conference. All we heard all year long was about the dominance of Tampa. Great but obviously when it got tough they fell apart. No depth or character a long season helps shape. They used the long season badly. They wanted to flex in the mirror, admiring themselves when they should have been focusing on what April will bring, the 3rd and final battle of attrition and Tampa blew that big time and CBJ exposed them in the very first game and fractured Tampa to the point where they couldn't recover. Chances are with Tampa, it was 20 guys in 20 limos before and after the game while the Bruins were all on one bus together, treating that rookie the same way as they would Chara or Bergy. You could say the same about CBJ, Canes and the Blues as well. A long season building a team breeds that success a dozen or 2 games won't. It was the same way 50 years ago when they played 78 regular season games instead of 82. That has not changed. It's the team that keeps their focus over 82 games that win Cups, not winning 62 games and the President's trophy. Look how often the President's Trophy winners get eliminated and never make the finals since it was introduced. Mental toughness, not just physical over 82 games wins Cups. The game has changed for sure because the players are faster and the teams overall prepare better. I think more teams understand what it takes to get to the finals and playing like it is game 7 of the Cup finals in October isn't going to get you to the dance. Never has but building a team over the long season will get you to the promise land. That was totally lost on Tampa this year, that's for sure. I think it is an exciting thing to watch during the course of a season too. We see the game different ways I guess
