Bruno Campos is the voice of a jazz loving Prince Naveen in The Princess and the Frog

Brooke Christopher sits down with Bruno Campos to discuss plays the voice of the Prince and The Frog in the new Disney movie The Princess and the Frog.
The prince in THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG takes center stage like never before. This prince is on a journey of discovery all his own and Bruno Campos was tapped to give Naveen his voice. Hes got some issues, says Campos of his character. Hes got a lot of sass. Hes got some wit. He can be a little feisty, but he grows throughout the movie.
Thanks to Campos and Randy Haycock, supervising animator for Prince Naveen and Frog Naveen, the prince comes to the big screen with enough charisma to wow audiences worldwide. I had a roommate in college who liked the ladies, you know, says Haycock. I used to watch him, because he was really good with the girls and I wasnt, and I noticed that he was a leaner. He was always leaning in, he always got really close. If girls were sitting on a chair, hed sit next to them and hed lean in. If they were standing, hed find something to lean on. I always have Naveen leaning on his hand or leaning on something because thats that confidence, you know, hes not stiff at all. Hes very loose, because hes very cool and confident about who he is.
The alluring qualities of New Orleans drew PRINCE NAVEEN (voice of Bruno Campos) from his far-off kingdom of Maldonia. Although spoiled and irresponsible, Naveen has an irresistible charm and joie de vivre that captivate those around him, and a passion for the Dixieland jazz being popularized by Paul Whiteman, Jimmie Noone, Earl Hines, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong.
Naveens supervising animator Randy Haycock has animated classic Disney characters, including Simba (The Lion King) and Powhatan (Pocahontas). Disney has a long tradition of princes, but weve never had a prince that really influenced a heroine, says Haycock. It was always love at first sight. For once we have a girl that meets a guy and it follows a romantic-comedy idea where the couple meet and they really dont like each other.
Like anyone, Naveens flaws are actually part of his virtues. The heroine has a flaw, too-she doesnt know how to appreciate life. She doesnt know how to enjoy herself. And thats what Naveen teaches her, Haycock says. He teaches her to settle down once in a while and simply appreciate whats going on. Have some fun, enjoy, be happy with what you have around you. Fun Fact: This is actually the last movie he has made, as in 2010 he left acting behind to pursue a career as a lawyer, and his only acting credits since he got his law degree have been voicing Naveen in small one offs for Disney.

To be honest I think I can hear that he does have an accent but he is able to make it stronger or sound more American which is probably more natural to him depending on who he's talking to, this happens with "foreigners"

However, my point of what I said is that everywhere in the world that was colonized by Europe deals with it's own historical and contemporary versions of white supremacy and anti-blackness(these were used as tools to colonize and socially organize these places). When you used the word "we" I was pointing to the fact that in LA(latin america) alot of people with discernible VISIBLE black ancestry may not be having the same experience as their lighter brighter whiter countrymen. Calling a spade a spade is not divisive and can even be an act of love. You're right though, it's not fair and an extension of the US Empire's reach in the world for us to look at other countries(project) the same way we look at ourselves(I'm first generation Jamaican American), but it doesn't mean anti-blackness and white supremacy are not a global phenomenon - it IS! and it has pretty significant impacts on people's lives and opportunities. Pretending there is nothing to see perpetuates harm

Maldonian. :) All we know is that he is European (given his royal clothing and the background of the fairytale). A very tanned European. ;) Naveen is a name that's more common in Eastern Caucasian populations (think India and Iran) though. His ethnicity is made up but they'd probably get a darker-skinned Caucasian (such as an Indian) to play him in real life. Just to give you a general idea. ;)

I saw this movie today. It was great. He was funny and very charming. I loved Tiana too. It was a great ending. A little bit too much "magic" but thats okay because you have to always have a "bad" character in any movie. Just your kids will ask what is that? Just tell them he's a bad guy. Great move though, I might see it again if i can find another kid and more people to go with but i did like Prince Naveen :-)
