CPR AND FIRST AID SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE FIRST THING NEEDED especially when dealing with children.
@meekermoo7525 ай бұрын
I took a cpr and first aid class and the number one thing I always learned is to call 911 while performing cpr. This is in case you fail as the provider in removing the solid object in their throat. Three adults tried to get the watermelon out and no one bothered to call 911 first? Something is really shady

Daycare worker here, they are SUPPOSED to be CPR/First Aid trained or they get cited by the state, at least in my state. We do yearly training, even medicine/ epi pen training. This was a daycare that did not care about training.

@Venomaciousinnataimint5 ай бұрын
Exactly what I said! Why watermelon. You don’t give watermelon with seeds to a toddler. Clearly not cut up or soft enough. And to know there were issues with First Aid/CPR trained adults! Ridiculous
@i-mbalm5 ай бұрын
Actually, watermelon is safe at his age of 16 months. Daycare worker here, parents are supposed to provide small bite sized pieces of food including fruits to AVOID choking. Kids do choke when eating too fast, most kids cough it up (part of the process especially babies who are just learning to eat) the issue here is that he was not being watched at all. Could've been avoided. And daycare staff are supposed to be cpr and first aid trained.
@SHUNUMPS5 ай бұрын
@@i-mbalm that’s exactly what I said. The fruit was supposed to be cut up into tiny finger tip sizes, minus the seeds & not given into chunks that come pre-cut. I have fed watermelon to my children when they were very small. I crushed the watermelon up. Smooshed up enough to be spoon fed. Even juiced & let them drank watermelon juice ice cold. The staff was totally negligent & yes, 1000 percent at fault.

As a former day care worker, you may judge. They became angel makers by negligence through their desire to gum flap rather than keeping an eye on ALL children. We all had a list for each child and what they have and hadn't had before. When they had something new, it was made aware in advance and we always sat with the kids at their level to eat at the same time. So so so many little things that can be done to place yourself in an environment where you can babysit and talk WITH babies. No reason to be talking with each other. No improvement plan installs empathy

Anybody can open a daycare center parents need to make sure they are leaving their most precious prized possessions in the hands of capable loving individuals who are not psychopaths because some people (A disturbed few) will kill your kids just to destroy your life. If you have an ounce of common sense you don't give a toddler foods or non food items that they can choke on. Watermelon flesh should be Soft and mushy what part of the watermelon did someone serve him the RIND?! The fact that another child had to alert an adult tells me there is no supervision from staff whatsoever; absolute neglect. Remember: Childcare centers are notorious for hiring women for low wages who never took care of they're own children in life. My condolences to the heartbroken parents we all empathize and sympathize with you.

I’m 35, with a degree that can get me a great paying job. The moment I gave birth almost 3 years ago I knew I couldn’t hand over my child to strangers at a daycare. I have sacrificed so much to be a stay at home mom. A decision that I struggle with many times, knowing how my salary along with husband’s would make a world of difference for us financially. But I know in my heart I can’t go against a conviction I know God himself placed on my heart to stay home with my child. I just don’t TRUST THESE DAYCARE PEOPLE. I will keep this young grieving couple in my prayers.

I had no degree but had the heart to work in a daycare for 14 years +. Being experienced and God put me into these places. Still, I resigned when I had my kid. Working in the field with so many with the degree my kids would not have been safe. They were more mad with me cause I made more money than them and had a heart for kids.

I did the same as you and have decided to stay home with my daughter until she was 3 years old. Her vocab is superb and only then did I feel comfortable sending her for 10 hours a week! The daycare system in the UK is more regulated and we’ve never had a child die whilst in daycare. However I still checked the qualifications of all staff, 1st aid certificates, they take pics of my daughter throughout the day, I go at random times to spy on them, I met with the district manager. I can tell the staff are nervous with me and rightly so! I stay on top of them and don’t play about anything! My child gives me a run down of her day and if there is anything I don’t like, e enas simply as another child telling her ‘I’m not your friend.’ I discuss this with them!

That’s why I don’t let anyone watch my kids. I was abused by my babysitter who was also a relative. I’m so thankful that my husband is ok with my decisions to stay with my kids until they are old enough to speak clearly and our fully potty trained before I can go back into the work force because I just couldn’t handle something like this. This would absolutely crush me. I feel so saddened for this family. And to think I was just considering taking my 2 year old to daycare because she has never been around other babies, & her siblings are way older than her BUT this story is making me reconsider. I rather just have another baby instead.

there's nothing wrong with serving a child watermelon, for a toddler, it's just a matter of crushing up the fruit so that it is pretty much drinkable. it has nothing to do with serving the fruit, supervision, and training in CPR. now if they were on it and they did their due diligence in making sure the pieces were bite size for a baby's consumption, but it sounds like negligence because they weren't paying attention to them while they ate. My heart goes out to the parents. I am a director for child care location, and here in California we have super strict laws surrounding child care I think the most stringent in the country. I really feel for these parents. I will be having a talk with my staff about this case, it is so important to never sleep on these matters. I want to make sure every child goes home intact to their parents with no issues or regrets.
