6:50 - Makita has an added bonus. You can see Milwaukee pushing the chips in front and that obscure the cut mark where Makita has the engine exhaust designed to blow the dust away.

Good review guys, only thing i disagree on is the plastic bit on the Makita, if ya gonna break that off your doing something wrong for a start, probably a rough bugger and gonna stuff any tool anyway, its there for a reason, over time things get knocked round and the plates can get off of the marks, it lets you realign the guide But having said that it could use a second screw to make it more stable at other end, but who wants to undo 2 screws when ya can just do one, also having said that most builder look at the blade when they cut, never trust those guides, but if ya can adjust then maybe ya can trust them

Yea, but someone wanting to get into a new brand of tools there is not much between Milwaukee and Makita. I will say this however.... every fucker in the uk uses Makita, which means when your on site batteries and tools can get picked up accidentally. I’ve done it myself, stole a blokes SDS thinking it was mine... gave it back to him of course. Was an honest mistake. But having m18 tools in the uk your less likely to have that happen.

nice review. the 2 guide rail holes are not there to give you 2 places to put the guide rail. they are there so you can attach accessory part number 196953-0 which allows you to attach to the makita rail saw rails basically turning it into a rail saw!

If your using a dust collector which u should be then neither is an issue. Been a makita user for years but since I’ve been using various Milwaukee fuel m18 powertools I’ve sold all my makita power tools. Milwaukee fuel are in another league.

Cracking video mates!! Sorry I couldn't resist :) I have the makita and it's a huge improvement over the old 6.5" saw.. great power and as long as you have two batteries it has plenty of runtime that you can easily charge a battery in the time it takes to drain one so your gonna get all day use I agree with you guys, both these saws seem so good that the determining factor for many people is going to be what battery platform they already have or which brand offers the most other tools that you might want to buy if starting fresh For me it's Makita all the way.. I have been in the LXT line for at least 7 or 8 years and my experience with the quality and long term durability and reliability has been excellent..

Of the six items only the combo-drill disappoints. it's torque is fine along with battery life, but the chuckspeeds are woefully slow, even compared to the 8yr old Ryobi pointless shite! Lol

the plastic gauges on the makita are adjustable so if you the the saw you can move it back to true zero instead of making a 1/4 inch mark with your pencil

The Milwaukee 6.5 has replaced my 7 1/4 Makita cord saw simple due to its ease of use and the long life of the battery . Sure it doesn't replace a corded tool , but take it easy and it does all cuts for me . Had it now for 1 1/2 years constant use and no problem. Like to buy the fuel 7 1/4 next

I have the Makita 5008 corded. 1800 watt motor and will cut 4 18mm sheets of ply in one go. I bought the 6-1/2" Milwaukee for smaller cuts and ease of use when no power to hand. Only just got it but it cuts really well. As I have said in my post the saw has a sort of rattle when just run in your hand and I was wondering if this was normal.?

If you are wondering about Milwaukee and makita i have had a makita drill for 7 years in that time my workmate went through 5 Milwaukee drills Thats just an example from experience Milwaukee have a higher return rate because of damages i have never had major problems with makita

+Dwain OTT had a crack with aeg yet? I got their hammer drill and bl impact driver, somewhat naively, based on the long Warranty. Anyway, now I'm kind of in that system, I want to make know if I should stick with it or bail now before I buy more stuff. I really like the driver and drill. That's smart that milwaukee prevents the protection from kicking in until you're done with the cut. I'm a cheap guy and if I'm ripping some expensive wood I find that feature very nice. Thanks for mentioning that, something i'd NEVER know picking up the tool in the store and hem and haw at it :D

Fellas, these power tool face offs are beginning to cause a meltdown of my comparative reasoning LOL Seriously, I scoured YT for wks for the overall best mains 'multi-cutter' ended up buying a Fein multimaster marine , which is a fantastic machine with a multitude of spare attachments, along with its matching vacuum. Fein are the pioneers of the oscillating power tools and this helped my decision and the YT instructional video cemented my choice. Would you guys opt for a different corded brand? I admire the Festool Vecturo, but it's more costly still......

Love your videos guys, especially when they are makita ones. I got the original makita cordless circ saw about 5 years ago as an occasional tool. Think I have used my corded circular saw once since then. It's my go to circ saw now. I got an expensive blade for it which made a huge difference. How would you rate the difference between the non-brushless makita and the new brushless one. Worth an upgrade? Last I checked the price difference between the brushless 18v and the 36v (2x 18v) non brushless was practically nothing. I guess if the brushless does everything you want why have the extra weight.

Alex reed the brushless is certainly a lot more powerful (just like in the grinder upgrade), and will last longer. but if you don't currently make your brushed version cut-out or struggle for runtime, then you're already set right?

Dede Portern we didn't have the same blade for the two Milwaukee saws so can't say for sure, but we think it likely they have the same motor...

I have Hilti and Milwaukee. I find the Hilti gear extremely tough and well built and gives me a feeling that it will run forever. I have combi drills in both. There are a lot of boasts by Milwaukee about drilling 7/8" holes in concrete and it has huge torque 136Nm, which is fine but I would use my Hilti te6 a 22 sds for holes in concrete much above 6mm, and there is no safety feature on the Milwaukee that stops you breaking your wrist if a bit catches. The hilti has 80Nm of torque, although it feels a lot more and it has ATC....Active torque control which is great, especially if you are working off a ladder and reaching up. I am talking about the 18 volt Gen 2 Milwaukee and the Hilti SF6H a 22. Most of the main brands are pretty much of a muchness! A lot comes down to personal choice. Dave.

Gaccusgaccus Thanks for the feedback. We actually just upgraded our camera before Christmas, which has improved it a little, but our big problem is lighting. No camera is going to well in the poor lighting of our shed. I don't see the value in filming in 1080p, when we can't even get the focus correct. And who needs a tool review by a couple of hacks in 1080p? :P We are focused on the content, so glad to hear that you enjoy it!

+Rex Mix i don't think so. I owned the Dewalt XR saw and it was a very good saw, but it's not the match of either of these brushless units for power. The Dewalt does have first class ergonomics and great runtime for a brushed saw.

Guys, look at your video of the saws in action. Most don't use dust collection, so look at where the exit occurs on both. The Milwaukee shoots the dust back at you, Makita deflects it down and away from you. Weight, you used two hands on the Mil, and only one on the Mak, surely ergonomics are better on the Makita for long term use. The Makita also charges much faster than the Milwaukee. EVERY cordless needs charging, so while you are waiting for the Milwaukee, you are back to work with the Makita. Plastic "bits"? Makita wouldn't put items on their saws that cause warranty returns, did you snap off the nose in use???

+Don Donaldson I agree, we did mention that the Makita is excellent in terms of where the dust goes by default. I can't speak to the one-handed vs two handed use, I don't remember why I did that. i reality I wasn't carrying the weight of either saw, so I don't consider your statement to be accurate re: ergonomics. I agree the faster charger on the Makita is a bonus, but this can be overcome by extra batteries, and doesn't really come into a tool fight between these two saws specifically. Both Mike and I agreed there was a couple of plastic items on it that could easily be broken and could have been made metal at little cost. Mike voted for the Makita, I went for the Milwaukee, we both loved both saws. I don't think there's any great injustice here ...

Hm...the dust port of the Makita comes in the box...are you shure you didn't just forget to put it on? If not, it is available as an acessory for 10 bucks. Also, "Plastic" is a fairly general term and a part being made out of metal isn't a good thing per definition. It can be, but it also can't. It's always a question of what attributes a cetain part has to have to make it a great tool. There are applications where glassfibre reinforced polycarbonate, PPE or nylon like makita and a lot of other manufacturers like to use for their housings and gear housings does indeed outperform a metal part. Simply by being more resistant to impacts while being lighter i.e.. Apart from that a great, detailed review.

Great review. You guys know your stuff. A bit of advice: If you slowed down a little when speaking it would help this American (and lots of others, I'm sure) better understand what you are saying. Just bought the Makita saw and a couple of 5.0 batteries. I didn't buy the Milwaukee and here's why: I bought one of the first Milwaukee cordless circular saws in the 80s and the thing was next to worthlesss right out of the box. It was also very expensive, nearly $300 if I recall correctly. They gave you a really thin kerf blade to help ease the strain on the battery and motor, but it would warp. A replacement blade cost $40 bucks. A complete waste of money. Maybe somebody from Milwaukee can make it up to me and send me a new one of the saw your reviewed above. LOL I still have the tool box for that saw, but I put a small router in it instead. When it comes to cordless, Makita has always been the best. You just have to make sure you are buying the top of the line tool and not one that was introduced several years ago. And the top of the line batteries. They just introduced a 6.0 Ah battery. Milwaukee says they are introducing a 9.0 Ah battery. I'm skeptical. Makita's lineup of cordless tools is very impressive, although it's obvious that some are much better than others. I wish Milwaukee well, but I'd appreciate it if they'd compensate me for that lame horse of a saw I bought in the 80s. I might even still have the reciept.

i just got one of these saws...the Makita...you can very easily fix the indicator wiggle by inserting a little glue...the plastic piece on the front is meant so that if you bent the base plate you can readjust the cutting line...Milwaukee and all previous saws never thought that people drop these frequently and that almost all used saws have bent plates...the wiggle on the front knob can be fixed by reversing the clip that holds it on...i think why this saw has so many problems is that it is designed in japan but put together in china!!! ===good design but not put together right...if you put a bigger battery on it (6.0- 3 layered) this saw will easily out perform any competition with a bigger motor because of the electronics and heavy wires around the motor...check out their newest impact drivers...

The milwaukee is running a 4.0 battery and the makita is running a 3.0 battery. imho, if the makita was running a 4.0 battery,this would have been more of an equal challenge as far as the power source also.

Thanks Christopher, i use the Milwaukee as my main saw now so every cut i do is now my cordless versus my 240V unit. So far no issues so im happy-but trends always find their way into public sphere. Happy to see what happens longer term here. (Mike)

@Warren. I agree the Makita seem to hold up VERY well long term. I run both platforms and have sold all major brands except Milwaukee for over 10 years. Some brands have ups and downs but Makita don't do everything well so we always have to keep a bit of an open mind. And certainly not forgetting everyone uses tools markedly different and treatment is seldom the same. (Mike)

My oldest Milwaukee product is M18 drill with 2x 3.0 Ah batteries have been used it weekly since 2010 and it still works flawlessly.

Got both, the Milwaukee is not in the same league as the Makita, Makita is well ahead of Milwaukee, I would say the hikoki is only thing close to the Makita

Have owned both saws, the Milwaukee is way nicer! The Makita came with a lose shoe and was not as powerful. The Makita just felt cheep. I am not a Milwaukee fan boy, I own Milwaukee, Makita and DeWalt. They all have tools I feel are better and worse. Milwaukee wins on the the 6 1/2 brushless circular saw test in my world.

why don't Makita,milwaukee,dewalt etc build tools that be able to be switch from corded to cordless or other way around at the same time?I think they knew how to make it but they don't want to do it otherwise losing to much $$$$$( just saying) :D

Dood if they made a battery but its a transformer with a power lead, converting you're wall power to your 18v.

these tests are not real !!! at first the makita stopped but actually saw faster ... then it ended up around the battery .... all the fool ... you mean the 4ah batt. me more endurance than 5ah makita ??? look at the price of the battery .... and makita battery hold capacity for me 5 years ... fellow milwaukee batteries are after 2 years soft and weak ... their price is twice ...
