One big missed opportunity. I think having Taven being clueless hurt his character depth. It would have been awesome to have him say things like: "Lin Kuei? The Lin Kuei I know do not wear those colors" (Referring to the crimson tunics from the Lin Kuei's grand masters). "The Black Dragon? You mean that small gang of bandits from Earthrealm?" "A Shaolin named Kung Lao? The one I know wears a bandana, not a hat." He could have been asleep from right after the Mortal Kombat that the Great Kung Lao lost. At least he could have been up to date with Mortal Kombat post Outworld's first victory. Calling Reptile a "Lizzard" instead of a Zaterran or Saurian since I think back when Taven was born, Zaterra would have still exist. Little details like that could have built up the character of Taven much more. Taven may as well have been born right there. Being clueless only knowing his brother and Raiden disconnected him from all previous games.

Imo Taven is the most relatable protagonist. Dude awakened in a world he had no knowledge or idea of and he acts like it. He has no idea what tf is going on and no idea who is an enemy or friend. You can even hear Taven just absolutely sick of everyone being hostile when he meets sub zero, as he sighs in annoyance and says "and you are?" like he just wants everyone to f off. Its unintentionally hilarious

Back in the 2000s you could only find 3 mk games in my country: umk3 for the sega genesis, shaolin monks for the PS2 and mk armageddon for the PS2 Sometimes I like to pretend that Taven was meant to represent us, being thrown into the final chapter of a bigger story with no context whatsoever. Constantly asking ourselves "who are you?!"
