For anyone who owns the Kaja Bentos: there's a little hole in the bottom of each layer so you can depot them easily with a pin. They are glued in, rather than magnetized, so it isn't as handy to pop in and out. But useful to know if you want to work with them as singles.

REVOLUTIONARY, I did not know this!!! I do wish they sold those shadows as singles/refills, too though... I exclusively use the brown in the orange blossom trio and don't care for the other two, and I know I'm not going to want to buy all three shadows again to replace one.

I'm in a phase of building my makeup collection rather than decluttering it, as I've just been getting into makeup now (in my late 30s!). I can easily end up overpurchasing when I get into a new hobby, so watching these declutters has been helping me remember to ask "is there an actual hole in my collection that this will (hopefully) fill" as I shop, instead of just "ooo pretty shiny colors" and ending up with too much makeup.

Yes do that. I was like you and got back into makeup in my mid 40s after many years without. I then went a bit mad and bought everything my fave reviewers liked 😮. I ended up with far to many products to realistically use and a huge pile of guilt to go with it. I’m just coming to the end of a no buy year (2022) and now that I’ve whittled things right down and learned what truly suits me (not just the reviewer) I’m determined not to make that mistake again. So I wish you all the best with enjoying your new found hobby and not tripping over it like I did! 😅😅😅

my biggest piece of advice is to put stuff in online carts and wait. and then when possible try stuff in stores before you buy, and obviously watch loads of reviews, to try and get a balanced view of new products. sitting on online carts makes me feel better, and helps me with budgeting, and buying stuff in person will remind you of how much you’re actually buying, helping you think of space, and also help you try stuff out so you don’t buy disappointing stuff which has to be returned (which then contributes to environmental waste).

That’s smart! I also started building my makeup collection in my 30s - about 3 years ago. I went from 1, 2 pan eyeshadow, 1 product for each thing, no bronzer what’s that? - to over 100 palettes, 65 blushes, 30 foundations and so on…. It’s easy to get off track and end up with too much. But - I view mine as a collection and I’m building it, not decluttering it also. But I still love declutters lol - just not personally doing them. ❤

I can totally relate. I went through overpurchasing at the beginning of my phase a few years ago. I ended up giving away about half of my collection, selling about a third and I still have two full drawers of makeup. I did a no buy year this year and I’m surely feeling pretty wild right now, because I want EVERYTHING. I have to remind myself that makeup is ridiculously expensive and takes a long time to use up, so I’m starting with some precautions: - I’m not buying eyeshadow palettes again that are not wearable for every day. As a matter of fact - before I consider buying anything - I try to check if I already have something similar - not buying any drugstore eyeshadow or face colour cosmetics anymore- I usually enjoy higher end stuff much more and you have them for years. Buying drugstore products usually doesn’t satisfy my hunger for pretty things. -I’m doing a lot of window shopping online and then I’m trying to put into perspective what I could get instead of makeup for this money. I want some variety, but I also don’t want stuff laying around that just goes bad. I’m trying to remember that this is just stuff for my face. Instead I could get some nice clothes, a bag, stuff for my home, SAVE the money etc… after this no buy year I’m much better at taking care of my hair, of how I dress etc. Realistically, a normal consumer does not need and can’t go through as much make-up as we end up buying, because of KZbin. Watching declutters definitely helps me remember that this stuff is not forever.

These videos always make me so aware of how much I wish companies made products in smaller sizes. I know some companies do minis but they packaging is always so janky and it cost more per g/oz of product. I want companies to makes smaller makeup with the same quality of packaging with a price that is at least close to proportional with the cost of the bigger one. I feel like they come out with value sizes that are bigger all the time but never a smaller size. Most the time I don’t go through things before they get too old and it just makes me feel so wasteful throwing out something that’s only half empty. Plus I genuinely enjoy trying new makeup but every time I do I’m aware I’m adding yet another thing to my probably already too big collection

You should try Viseart if you haven’t. They are a brand that caters to makeup artists needing everything mini/small for travel purposes. Their shimmer quality is not very shiny more of a very subtle satin but their mattes blend so easily. They have all matte palettes that are separated into warm mattes cool mattes neutral mattes and a rainbow matte palette and I love them all and use them all the time over other palettes plus they are so small and cute like so small they can fit in the palm of your hand

It's amazing to me how invested I get in these declutters of yours and start rooting so hard for one or two products to make it through each round, almost like I'm watching a sports contest and cheering for my favorite athletes lol. During this round as an olive eye makeup Enthusiast I was pulling so hard for Oxidized Olive to make the cut and actually let out a loud sound of defeat when you decided to declutter it haha. I'm excited for this declutter and your reasonings on keeping or not keeping things. This year I did my first declutter since I started building my collection in 2019 with some of the talking points you use in your videos. The way you love and care for the things you own is really awesome - its not just about owning them. They need to have a space and purpose. That's the message that translates to me. As a recovering almost-hoarder that's something I'm learning for the last 3 years and seeing it too is helpful. I just did an eyeshadow single/depotted eyeshadow declutter (even decluttered a lipgloss that made it past my lip declutter). I'm so inspired by you, Hannah. And I'm happy with my choices. I had collected quite a few Colourpop Super Shock Shadows, and i LOVED owning them and looking at them. However, during a recent declutter, i came to terms with the fact that i never use any of them. I just don't reach into an individually-potted eyeshadow...ever. I'm not a one-and-done shadow person (i use a minimum of six shadows per look), and if i need something to add to a look, i'll never dig through a collection of individual items. It just became apparent to me that they are just as cumbersome to me as their name is. So i gave them all to my daughter, who uses them frequently.

I'm always fascinated by people's eyeshadow declutters. I just realized Hannah a lot of what you use and or declutter..... like the Roen single for me that orangey gold is a staple lol. I never thought of that but since we differ so much in looks it's just cool to think about you know. Like the Auric I understand and when you mentioned Holiday colors it does makes sense. But for me that shade of green is a staple to blend my other greens and golds into and that shade of red is a go to for me in the Summer where I tan EVEN more lol. But I'm just fascinated how things differ from person to person. Like I thank you and Paulina for getting me into these type of colors that for me as a brown girl are my go to staples. For the Roen quads, with a pin or something small you can pop out the shadows. Yes, they're glued in not magnetized but you could in theory switch out the shades to have only one quad if you desired. I don't blame you for keeping them!

I love your declutters because I take the same approach to my makeup (try to only keep special) even though I am just a consumer so it can be hard to part with things that you’ve paid for. But it’s worth it in the end. Better to get use out of your favourites.

Loved how vicious you were with your collection I think you are going to be so happy in the new year as you won't have anything you are hesitant to reach for. I recently decluttered 3 nude lipsticks to my mom and she is obsessed with them and didn't own any. I also culled two single shadows and there are 2 more on the chopping block. I also decluttered a blush so its been good to do that. I don't want to have guilt and I also don't have to have things that I am begrudging reaching for.

Love this video 💗 and like the other comments mentioned - you can depot all of the shadows, even the ones that don’t have a hole in the back! They make small tools that help you pop them out and I’m certain you can find them on amazon for cheap!

Rewatchinh cuz nothing else is on. Seeing 11:11 reminds me of how I panned that beautiful sparkly pink shade and I want it back in my life. It was so good. I used to just top a ton of eye looks with it and it really lights up a look.

The Jillian Dempsey sounds like the Charlotte tilbury classic powder pencils formula, charcoal is a good description. I find these formulas diffuse into a gorgeous gradient and offer more play time for blending. The soft powdery formula meshes really well with shadows than a lot of longer wear (tight line) formulas. “The one I actually want” , this sentiment is why I stopped all subscription boxes. I’d rather purchase one lovely item than make due with dozens of mediocre items. Well I’m trading ritz in for space cowboy. Ritz was my HG for so long, but I can’t tell you the last time I’ve actually reached for it. * the DM color fix looks so different swatched, it’s like magic!! I’m so tempted!

My dream for ColourPop single shadows would be a reusable container with thin inserts of shadow that would be 10-15 applications for those of us that don’t want to commit to the same color everyday for a year. It would be innovative to create recyclable or biodegradable inserts (maybe a heavy cardboard?). I love some of the color but packaging waste and knowing it’s too much product for me to not get bored with keeps me from buying them. I do kinda miss Z palettes for creating our own ideal collections with minimal waste. Maybe someday manufacturers will see the future of makeup is being more responsible with resources.

@@cndc0618 i really hope. I’d love it if they made paper samples similar to lottery ticket peel back to try out colors at home. Avon did it years ago. Might be a cool way to even do PR then give reviewer a gift card to get favorites without sending entire collections of full size products. Brands really need to get more creative because the plastic trash is seriously gross. I know I’d pay more to know I’m going to love a product by trying at home first.

Yayyy, love your declutters!! They motivated me to let go 2 old lipsticks I never use but always thought "oh but there is still so much left" - lets be honest, I will never finish them up so why hold on to it???

If I had to start my makeup collection over, I’d just buy phytosurgence for blush and eyes. So I see why it’s hard for you to narrow it down! The eye pots are so ideal and I reach for them over everything.

I love how some people just want a few pieces of makeup and some people love having variety. I have a huge collection as I was a makeup artist and worked in beauty for many years and I declutter makeup but I love having the variety. I can go down from 15 liners to 10 liners but won't do it just to have a few items. For me, when I get them for free I carry less guilt as I didn't purchase them but even though you have a channel I'm surprised at your will power to still want to have minimal makeup or makeup you will use up. Great video :)

Hi Hannah. The only "liner" I use is cocoa from the Laura Mercier Caviar stick. It's versatile and performs well, esp in the water line. When I run out, I'm uncertain what else to try. Your suggestions were helpful...might splurge on the Victoria Beckham. That bronze IS beautiful.

I'll take your kaleidos duo/multichromes 😭 haha loving this declutter series, I'm nowhere near the point of needing to declutter, because I'm new to the game and barely own any make up, but it's reminding me to appreciate the things I have, as well as in the art supplies/fountain pen department- that's where the bulk of my.. bulk is. The kaleidos eyeliners remind me of "chromo shading" fountain pen inks!

I'm waiting for the palette declutter video. I wanna see how much of the Gold Palette you keep. I can see you keeping it all or decluttering the shades you don't use often and keeping the ones you really love. I don't think the whole palette will go bye bye, but will have to see.
