To be fair, I owned a 66 plate 1.0 ecoboost powershift, and sold it for a 22 plate 8.5 last year, with 32,000 on the clock. In the years I had the car it drove beautifully, the auto gear shift was smooth as silk, and I never had any mechanical issues with it in the time I had it (around 6 years). I am a true believer that there was no issues as it was serviced yearly, so any problems with the wet belt would have been picked up on. I did notice on the last service invoice a reminder that the belt was due for changing on the next service (which would have been next month) but now someone else has that to deal with! Totally love the new one though, again an auto ecoboost mhev st line 3 door in black. A head turning little rocket! Great video for us Fiesta enthusiasts!

Great vid & great channel! I am a driving instructor and I put 70k on my ‘19 plate ST line Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost. I sold it at 70k because I just couldn’t sleep at nights…. feeling that I was only a few thousand miles away from “boom”. Based on your photo, I believe my ‘19 plate was the “ecoboom 💥” ! It’s a shame because it was actually a great driving car - refined on the motorway, surprisingly brisk, an absolute joy to blast on a back road, and no rattles to speak of. Everything they say about Fiestas being a hoot to throw around the bends is absolutely true. But for me, going forward, it’s gotta be Japanese. That Fiesta had a chronic airbag warning light that could never really be fixed. And at tick over it sounded like the engine mounts were extremely worn - like a few squeaky chipmunks were having a conversation under the bonnet. And I always got the feeling that the car was never going to make it to 100k….
@36hunters
@36hunters 10 ай бұрын
You sold your Fiesta because you didn’t want to service it just like any other belt driven engine (and chain driven after enough miles!)? Seems a shame to let it depreciate that much over a serviceable item a cost the fraction of its worth. You mention the loud idle indicating it being a “fragile” engine yet is nothing more than a product of the high pressure direct injectors andoften running lean when cold to gradually warm the engine. While exaggerated as it’s a 3 cyl engine the tappy idle is common amongst most modern direct injection engines from a cold start. It’s sad you gave up on a car by coming to conclusion through your lack of mechanical knowledge but hope your next purchase serve you just as well 👍🏻

@@36huntersNo. Ford made a product that had a notorious basic flaw (wet belt system). I sold it before it went boom. Simply a strategic move. So I don’t really understand your comment….. you say I didn’t want to service it…. And that I let it depreciate… Your comment makes no sense to me.

The fiesta is not as bad as the focus. It is the buyer that determines the life them. They are all rust traps far too soon compared to many makers but you are more likely to buy a Focus that was previously owned by a boy racer where the Fiesta would more likely have been a respectable driver that needed economy when it mattered. The Fiesta is okay, it is not a Honda or Toyota as far as reliability (not even by a stretch) and long shelf life but it isnt awful either. It could be a mini.

You need to look out for dpf regens, if the ECU attempts to regen too often, the oil level rises and will require oil changes very early (even before 4/5000 km); therefore don't buy if you expect to never use motorways. Otherwise seems to be a reliable engine, with plenty of torque above 2000 rpm, less noisy than other diesels. Gearbox (6 speed) has a slightly longer throw if compared to the 1.0 EB, but has a more 'mechanical' feel to it including a nicely weighted clutch (I personally deeply disliked the 'feather-like' clutches in 1.0 EBs Fiesta/Puma that I tried). PS: I've been told that the latest Fiesta 1.5 tdcis that were sold (end 2019/2020) don't have the probelm with frequent oil changes because they were fitted with a larger oil sump (retrofit to earlier models is not possible).

Honestly think this car looks awesome but I cant imagine buying a Ford. Anyway here in the states the last gen had a significantly negative impact. That huge lawsuit with broken transmissions of course. Some websites put this as the number one most dangerous car in the US. My buddy had thr MK7 and it was just falling apart. Trim pieces coming off the doors and such. And it was so cramped. We were all skinny high school runners but sitting in that thing was terrible. My 2018 Honda Fit put this thing to shame in terms of useable space. Plus its a Ford. Ford is number one in recalls and warranty claims atm. A family friend had a 2016 Escapes transmission go at 70k miles My friends 2014 Mustang had a transmission go out at 40k miles and trim coming odd the doors and a plastic fantastic interior. My uncles F-150 suffered from tons of issues like electronics and powertrain but cant recall specifics. He got rid of it though. And Ford has been in rabid decline in terms of market share and pulling out of segments and global markets because everyone know how bad they are. Dont buy a Ford. You're just asking for trouble. Its one of the many embarrassments of being an American.

Sorry can i ask you something? I would like to buy exactly your model, but I am very doubtful because of all the negative comments and the "ecoboom" story.. You own it, so, can you clarify all this story for me? And how's it going with the car? Thank..

@Alex95_Revolution Hi the car on a 2018 plate is I believe one of the last fitted with a wet belt. I believe from 2019 they came with a chain but keep in mind they still run a wet belt on the oil pump but we are yet to see of issues with those yet. Alot of the early model problems were fixed like the coolant hose that were leaking on early models. Mine being the 18 plate engine wise has been fine like I say change that oil every 5k miles with 5w20 nothing else. Keep in mind the wet belt change interval has now gone from every 10 years to 6 years so filter that into your costs as its not cheap to replace if you use main dealer. Luckily my best friend is a mechanic and he fits these for £800 I know expensive but cheap compared to main dealer prices. Also now ford have put out there that if you have a ecoboost under 10 years old with a full service history dealer or independent and the belt goes or causes engine failure they are now replacing free of charge so don't worry about that but to be fair alot of the hype is overrated like any car they all have issues but you look after it it'll look after you cheers.

Why only do half a job! The wet belt where it be the timing belt or oil pump drive belt neither should be in a engine so I still wouldn't go anywhere near these engines!

I can’t believe Ford carried over the wet belt engine into these mk8’s. I hear they’re no longer helping customers that have blown engines. Some with really low miles. Disgusting.

I advise people NOT to buy a Ford as these cars require a lot of regular repairs. Best go for more reliable and durable Japanese cars like Lexus or Toyota. After scrapping my 2014 Ford Focus a few months ago (as it had engine damage as a result of snapped timing belt). I now drive a Lexus NX which is a much better car and so much fun to drive.
