Luke made a huge and correct decision to change his approach to training, guided by a new coach and it is working. The raw honesty shown by Tom is spot on, no sugar coating it and that alone says a huge amount about the athlete he is and the one he aspires to be. WSM is incredible, but the game has changed, the Arnolds, Rogue and especially SMOE carry a more modern credibility and are moving the sport and athletes forward. I feel Tom is acutely aware of this, his honesty and frustration are there for all to see. I hope he makes the right decisions for himself, Dan has guided him well so far and perhaps has the ability to adapt his own coaching values to reflect the challenges of the other big competitions. But if not, then Tom might want to look at the progress his brother is making, I truly hope it works out for him.

It’s funny but I think Mitch’s biggest strength is that he behaves relatively normal. We’re so used to strongmen being larger in life in ways that don’t necessarily correlate to better performance. Extreme training regimes, 10k calorie food intake, cultivating as much mass as possible and buying into pseudo-scientific “mentality monster” mindsets just don’t really make much sense if you actually think about things. By contrast Mitch eats (relatively speaking) reasonable quantities of good food, trains sensibly, tries to maintain a weight that works for him and has a healthy confidence in his own abilities. Obviously a lot of this is driven by his sport science background but there’s no reason why other athletes can’t replicate his approach.

Your deadlift has grown, your podiums have gone up, and you are in the mix to at least podium if not win! Tom, you’re in my top 3 favorites and you’ve even said it yourself you want to be considered on of the GOATs. If that’s truly the case you have to be able to win shows outside of WSM. We can see it from your body language here in this video that you aren’t happy with your performance that’s blatantly obvious. We want to see you peak for shows like the Arnold or SMoE. Go train with Thor and have a deadlift camp style training. Make a switch in coaching. 3x Wsm is legendary in its own right but you need someone who can get you to the status you want to achieve. The resources are out there, you absolutely have the means to do it. We love seeing you perform at your best with a confidence that’s unshakable. Change is hard but so is winning comps and change isn’t always bad. Shake some things up, give hooper some competition! I love watching you perform and this isn’t meant to slight you. You’re a beast! Hey Tom. We all know you can do awesome, awesome, awesome things. You are definitely my favorite strongman - simply just a super human. Both in strongman and as a person. The difference between you and the other top guys, at the moment, is they believe in themself. So please Tom, believe in your self - and know all of your fans believe you can do what ever you put your mind to. You are fuxxxxx awesome and we love you.

Been a follower/admirer of you both since around 2018. Watched both of you get to top. Tom needs to back off. Get his mind, body and confidence to where it belong. Get back to the basics and give time to recover. You will get there, I know it. We are with you.

While i think Tom is being too hard on himself, you gotta respect the brutal honesty coming from such a great athlete

I think Tom needs to strengthen his lift off the ground, problem is below the knee, not above (as we can see from the hummer-tire deadlift). That tells me either his low back needs reinforcing or the stance he is taking is not optimal, this also makes sense as he also struggles a bit with the lock-out too.
@Joe-wt6ehАй бұрын
Why would that tell you his lower back needs 'reinforcing'
@MeanBob_GamesАй бұрын
My assumption is that he can increase deadlift off the floor but it then struggles at lockout, and since like 75% of strongman deadlifts are elevated it's more advantageous to have a better top end of your deadlift. But I do agree that is probably the issue that needs addressed.

@@MeanBob_Games his coach is a fucktard, that's the problem. Bad programming. He's still performing to a great level because of the great genetics and consistent training, but he needs a new coach

@@Joe-wt6eh The hummer-tire deadlift is not far from an 18 inch deadlift, Tom has no issues with that. A rack-pull doesn't tax your low back (erectors, hamstrings, glutes) as much as a full deadlift. And when he fails a max deadlift that others can, he fails below the knee (like in strongest man on earth). So his upper back doesn't seem like the problem.

@TheSLK66 your legs are the primary movers off the floor. Your back only has to be strong isometrically and I don't think he's losing his position
