Imo didn't look like it Another video if 465 was posted a few weeks back and he badly struggled at lockout Hafthor is extremely strong at lockout. Before he became a complete deadlift monster, I remember him fighting hard to complete 450 at a deadlift championships. Once the lift got close to knees, he had the size, power and fight to keep it moving. @@ChatgptEnginedisagre. Hooper got 475 when he was training only for deadlift and log - not 2547372 other strongman events ;). Competing that much, training all the events, doing a lot of social media and still get 505 from the floor - I think it is definietely possible for him in the future. He looks better than most of the guys attempting 505 so far, including Pablo, Makarov etc. and he was not training for that 😅. Obviously Thor is stronger and he has the best chance. Thanks for your input on strongman shows and making these videos post competition. IMO your analysis is spot on regarding the athletes and it’s also similar to Hooper’s post show review. At the end of the day it’s up to Giants Live and Rogue to deliver in terms selecting better athletes and events. The wrecking ball hold just doesn’t cut it IMO. Trey Mitchell’s deadlift was the highlight for me as well as Austin Andrade attempt. Hooper and his coach are really putting themselves in another category and Hooper is cementing himself as superior as he goes for additional world records and keeps winning. I suspect we see more from Thor and his coach as well as Trey and his coach in 2025. That’s a great lineup in any show with Lucas Hatton, Austin Andrade, Tristin Hoath, Andrei Foujtu, Eddie Williams and Mateusz bringing the heat. For a future video could you discuss what a proper strongman season is or would be if you were competing and how an athlete would/could prepare to prep and compete in the big three Arnold/WSM/SMOE as well as a GL event? Realistically Hooper has figured it out and I believe Thor has said 4 shows a year are his focus. I don’t consider Rogue to be worthy of following or watching for several reasons. I’m hoping the MVM Classic takes their spot as the big 4 and Rogue and Giants Live clean up their act.

Thoughts: a) People is right saying Thor is the only one right now capable of breaking his record (emphasis on right now, meaning the present folks). The ball is no longer on GL's park, and is up to anybody to challenge the atlethes to a new deadlift. Maybe Rogue at the Arnold's, maybe SCL, who knows. b) Trey and Mitch show hope for the future though. Trey hates suits, so there is that, but Mitch has a better crack in oposition to Rauno, Ivan, Pehiman and Etc. However, let's not get too excited too, 'member Motch has been in that territory before, the reason he got into the strongman pro circuit was his 475KG deadlift and it baffles mes people forget how good he was already when he got in and specially his dl was theough the roof already. What goves hope is Mitch's planning ahead and brain, in fact, the best 470 this year was Rauno, can be seen from a side angle though, from the front Mitc was faster, but his lock was alread ify. c) Maksrov should take a rest a rethink what he is doing if he ever plans on trying again. d) Tom is on ramsom from GL and WSM lol. He wouldn't do this shows if he hadn't a deal with them, this is known. He is indeed disappointing and at this point it hurts. e) There was nothing from Hicks camp training leading to the championship that looked like he would get 500+. In fact, non of the 500 attempts even looled like it, yes that includes the Mitche's, i said there is hope in them, but all them look like 2 tiers bellowe what is needed f) The Lalas brothers rule. Now, I'm a incredibly weak deadlifter compared to these guys, but I'm always confused why lockout is SUCH a huge issue for these lifters. They all seem to have great speed off the floor then just falter once its over the knees. When I deadlift, if it gets past the knees the lockout is a piece of cake. You have so much more leverage in the top half of the lift, it really seems like it should be the easy part. Is it just the suit? Is it because strongmen just have absolutely massive quads? is it just something that naturally happens once you cross the ~900lb mark?
@LalasBrothersАй бұрын
With deadlifting in can be very hard to explain because everybody has there own weakness and strengths when it comes to it, everybody also has there own comfortable style, lifts might all look the same but hip height, foot position, foot orientation and hand position are all slightly different, some people are just better at locking out while others can be really impressive off the floor The suits allow for a lot of compression like a coiled spring, but can make it tough to get into your favourable deadlift position

Tom had sciatica for this. Have a look at Mitch's 505 attempt too. He held his form better than anyone who's attempted it before, it was actually still going up when he put it down. If he trains for it next year and doesn't get injured, he'll get it. Frankly, Graham and Ivan already should have though. If somebody had got 505kg, I still think Trey's deadlift might be more impressive. Also saw a video from Mitch where he said Tom had sciatica. Haven't seen anything from Tom about it. I was hoping Tom would do well here. It must be hard to decide what to compete in but as you say it might be better for Tom to reduce, even if it was half the comps and show up in good form. Trey looked excellent obviously but it was also nice to see Luke back and doing pretty well for his first comp back. I was surprised maybe Bobby Thompson didn't get a go, he looked good at Shaw's and his deadlift is decent!
@MrMoustache678Ай бұрын
Genetically Mitch has insane potential in almost every lift. If he bulked up the way Eddie did back in the day, he could definitely get the 505. But he likely won't do that since it would mess up his athleticism and longevity. He's in this sport to dominate for a long time, pretty much the opposite of Eddie's short peak.

This was a particularly bad comp for Tom and while he’s not had the best run since world’s, if it wasn’t for the stone mishap at Shaw Classic he would have been on the podium in that comp. I do agree that he needs to be able to show up if he comes to a comp. His reputation is important and this comp hasn’t done him any favours.

I completely agree about Mitch. Within 2 years of entering strongman he started to dominate it. He is always pushing himself and still has potential. To step up to 505kg for fun and out perform the dedicated lifters is embarrassing. Tom would not have won WSM 24 if Mitch didn't scuff his hands up. While Mitch is competing, Tom is never going to win another WSM. The Tom Mitch rivalry is dead. Makarov, Hicks, Rauno are never going to lift 505kg. Their not good enough. I'm no Mitch fanboy but he is going to the best strongman of all time unless he gets injured. 6x WSM, a 500+lift, longest podium streak etc. No one is on his level.

Hicks looks like he passed out. Also as noted, struggling at lockout and it looks like this is because he is way out of position (too far forward) past the knees. The extra bulk has diminishing returns. It forces you out of position and likely restricts blood flow and oxygen which contributes to the passing out.

The marketing was calling it "Hooper vs Stoltman is on", I think Tom was just after an easy paycheck and once he did the bare minimum to get it he pulled out. Even if is a good move for him personally, it really is unbecoming of a professional athlete who people pay money to see, and bad for the sport overall.

So we live in a world where Hooper, who didn't even peak for deadlift or do much training for it at all.... had the best attempt at 505. This guy is not normal. Tom coming dead last is not normal either. But there's supposedly a sciatic nerve/back issue. Playing it safe for Rogue I guess. Biby pulling out, and nobody knows why. Sadly that's kinda expected at this point. But who saw Trey coming? Just pulled a raw record in an equipped competition. Beyond insane.

All that training for Graham - a whole year down the drain training for one event. Makarov struggled at 470 which was surprising so it was obvious he wouldn't have a chance at 505. Makarov trains too hard too close to the competition - he needs Lalas or Loz to coach him

I was thinking he had the best shot at it, but not tracking your food for a week, american food which is useually loaded with waaaay too much fat. Loved seeing Trey and Eddie on the podium. This showing from Tom is becoming far too common and Luke has done the same thing, showing up not in serious shape and pulls out early. Hicks had lockout issues multiple times during his training. When he did 431kg for 3 reps, and his heavy single on 460kg he had problems with lockout. And to me when you are training for a 480+kg lift then every rep you do the months prior should look like (at least close to) a speed rep. Hooper is so untouchable now. Is it even possible to make a 6 event competition where he can lose? As long as the comp includes deadlift and overhead press neither Tom or Thor can beat him. You'd have to put viking press, heavy set of stones, and fingal fingers just to make Tom have a chance. And even then it's almost impossible to find 3 other proper Strongman events for him to lose more points than Tom potentially will.
