First heard this song in 1987... sitting on my motorcycle, on a hill over-looking an amazing beach in Thailand... I could not believe what I was hearing... THIS WAS MY SONG! Had a rock band in the late sixties... and a beautiful girlfriend to sing to... and yes those were the best days of MY life! ... I'm 71, still playing my guitar -and STILL rockin' to this song. Yea! Thank you Bryan!!!

Music is such a time machine. It is not the song, rather the memories it touches. Kenny Chesney "I go back" explains that well. Anyway, with this song, I go back. I go back to the 90s. I remember falling in love with my first girlfriend, I remember learning how to drive. I remember my first kiss. I can't listen to this song with out tearing up. The lyrics of "standing on your momma's porch you told me that you would wait forever and when you held my hand" Take me back to my former girlfriend's mothers porch and I remember when she held my hand looked in my eyes and told me she loved me. My gosh what memories music strikes up.

Despite it was only a school band, we went heavy on this one and suddendly everyone turned crazy, because the song is such fire. We later got asked for autographs. I was like wtf, it´s just a cover and we are only a school band. What I wanna say is, this song is not a normal song. This song has something in it, that makes everyone happy. why this song will continue to be a classic for eternity is for the reason that the summer of 69' represents a moment in time where each individual had the best experiences of their lives regardless of what year it was. The song represents a place in time where you knew it would never be better. "The future" for example, in 2069 they will continue playing this song because of the emotion behind it, and what it means to be alive and living for the moment and the happiness that it brings. This song reminds you that life is beautiful

Solomon Deepak I think Summer of '69 is meant as a double entendre: half the song associates discovering playing music/first bands with the Summer of '69 (probably intended literally), and the other half associates first love/sex with the Summer of "69" (sexual connotation). So both!
@sassyjay10010 жыл бұрын
Brittany Hale Ah excellent! Well I will rely on you to acheive that goal! Meanwhile I will errr... try to do something constructive with myself... Yeah I think that Adams and Vallance somehow tapped into some experience/feeling shared by many people with this song unintentionally so I take my own interpretation of it. (Especially since I later heard "everything I do I do for you... :S which completely destroys my belief in their ability to compose music)

MarleyMW because it's too easy for people with no sense of pitch or rhythm to hook up with a producer with a fancy computer and minimal songwriting abilities. They then produce plastic music for plastic people. It's sad to see the decline of popular music, but in my opinion, all of the good music has already been made.

It definitely hits that nostalgic spot.
