7 years ago I was in Portofino Italy on vacation when I see Bryan Cranston in the hotel restaurant with his wife and another lady. My step daughter wanted to take a selfie with him so I went over to his table to ask him. He said, "We are almost finished with dinner and then I would be happy to". I said thank you so much and walked away but I wasn't about to go bother him again, so I thought that was that. Then 20 minutes later he actually came to find us and said to come on over to the front so we can take some pictures. He was so kind and nice, I will never forget it.

@Supreme^90s That Italy comment, ha! It's not that I couldn't do it, I have no need to have my photo taken with what is in fact a complete stranger. But I think it's the idea of walking up to someone while they're in the middle of eating that really makes me say no way would I ever need or want to do that.

@Justin 0ldman I don't know the context of what Dave is and by saying that but Gender is not a fact, we people made it up like race. It's a fact that you are born with xy or xx chromosomes or a rare genetic variation. It's a fact which sex organs or genitalia you have. But the word "man" or "woman" or "transgender" are made up. We made it up. For someone people learning to be a man is more than learning how to use a penis that you are born with. For others, being male means being born with a penis and xy chromosomes. Again it's like race, Joe Biden is white and Trump is white both don't look equally white. What we mean by "white" is melanin deficient or varying degrees of less Melinated.

Hearing them talk about growing up Catholic really brought back some memories. I'm 19 about to be 20 but grew up going to Roman Catholic church and Sunday school every week. It was how they described it, boring, horrible, anxiety inducing, and similar to them, the reason I'm an atheist today. Watching two men 47 years older than me share literal word for word experiences similar to mine is haunting. Every aspect of their childhood was probably so vastly different to mine. I grew up on video games, cartoon network, scholastic book fairs, etc. And yet the Catholic religion manages to span nearly 50 years, and give these two men identical terrible experiences to me, a person who has no right understanding even the smallest notion of what the lives of these men born 4 decades before me were like. Truly amazing to think about.

I really appreciate this episode the most out of all I've seen so far. Bill Maher and Bryan Cranston are definitely among my top five favorite actors. It's amazing to see the testament of your friendship when you reference back to "Murder She Wrote." Revisiting the topic of race and race relations, the example used about people who had to cross a river to come to this country and now find it difficult to hear Americans complain while enjoying luxurious lifestyles and cocktails, like Mezcal tequila in a beautifully crafted studio, was quite poignant. As a 43-year-old African American, my lived experience aligns more with Cranston's views than Maher's. It struck me how easy it must be to express opinions on topics while surrounded by such decadent amenities, while I'm here preparing to face the world and fight for opportunities. I graduated from college and have a passion for graphic design. However, eight years ago, I lost my job at a high-end food company, and since then, the lack of financial stability has been devastating. In addition, I had the fortunate opportunity to work for a highly regarded Hollywood director and producer. However, the ongoing Hollywood writer strike has abruptly forced me back into unemployment. Just as I could glimpse a sense of peace on the horizon, I am now three months without work. The meager savings I managed to accumulate has been depleted, paid out to the landlords of society. In America, it seems the only color that matters is green, and due to historical disparities in generational wealth, white people have had more advantages than black people. Despite being smart, hardworking, and kind, poverty and systemic policies have kept me from advancing and enjoying financial security. It's a harsh reality that in a money-driven world, lacking financial resources can leave you in a vulnerable position. As I prepare to search for a job in Atlanta just to pay the rent next month, I've come to understand that the mechanisms in life are not always fair. Progress has been made, but there is still a long way to go before every American can experience the same opportunities. It's dangerous to adopt Maher's perspective that suggests we've made enough progress to relax the fight for equality. I find that idea far too risky to consider or agree with. On a side note, if you know of any great graphic design opportunities send me a comment.

he's an amazing, best actor alive as far as I know.. not a high standard, but I think so many "actors" today, even the ones I like, are very single dimensional and just play flavors of themselves. Cranston's range and ability is extremely exceptional today. He's like.. Neil Degrasse Tyson is to physics what Cranston is to acting. Which is to say if you go deep into theater you'll find more professional actors, but they are academic and not willing to deal with normal people. It's hard to take the serious academic skills into the popular entertainment realm. All that praise despite my opinion is he is off the wall wrong about the race stuff. Have to emphasize that. He's wrong about the race politics stuff in my opinion. Ok. He's still being very reasonable on all the topics they discussed. Maybe he's just busy applying his amazing skills to produce things that make my life more enjoyable. So he's clearly influenced by someone woke and less informed. But he handled the disagreement perfectly, no twitter canceling, just trying to make points.. perfect IMO.

No idea where I’ve been, I didn’t know you had a podcast and darnit this was out of this world, every word resonated with me. The Catholic School thing, the Church…I was on to them at the age of 6-7 as well. I usually laugh about it but I’m teary eyed right now. It was messed up but I did and still do admire the ritual of it all. The incense was wild and the clanking of the golden holder, can’t think of the name of it. I got chills when Bryan went into the Latin Mass. Jeeze, he can do anything, and you Bill, you’re awesome as always. I’ll be watching all the time now. Whew, I need a sip of that drink and I don’t even drink. Lol Oh Bill! Thank you for mentioning the soda water made with Stevia! I never knew, I take it for late stage Lyme disease by the droplets. I’ll be looking for the water. Love you guys so much.

During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries hundreds of thousands of people became slaves, in all but name, in the American colonies. Urchins were collected from London's streets to work in the tobacco fields, and brothels were raided to provide'breeders'4Virginia. Migrants, hopeful of finding a new, better life, would be duped into signing as servants. Not until they arrived did they become aware of the awful truth, that they could be bought, gambled away, and sold -- paraded for sale like livestock. Don Jordan and Michael Walsh, authors of White Cargo: The Forgotten History of Britain's White Slaves in America, investigate this forgotten episode in the annals of slavery, intricately piecing together history drawn from letters, diaries and court and government archives. I like the arguing from both sides. I strongly agree with Bill and think Cranston must be kowtowing to woke twitter on the critical race theory. In my opinion sensible people who believe in teaching critical race theory don't understand what it is. Maybe I have been misinformed too. But whatever it is, it's either a reasonable thing to teach at certain levels of education or it isn't. I think if the facts of exactly what was being taught and who to, there wouldn't be anything to talk about, most people would agree what is reasonable. People have to find ways to respectfully discuss topics despite really passionate disagreement because people seem too fragile to do that anymore and the passive aggressive fighting is disgustingly inefficient. Cranston and I would get along on 99% just like him and Bill, but most people who strongly identify right now as liberal OR conservative would crucify you for the 1% disagreement. It's nice that Cranston didn't do that, it serves as another good model for people to see how it's done. Bill is in the business of doing that forever of course, but many times they avoid the really passionate disagreements so it's nice to see them dig in and still pop back and move on to lighter conversation.
