I would add anyone who feels music to their very core will understand how good these guys are. They are the very definition of "groove", they don't step on each other's musical toes, they're unselfish, they play in the pocket in an unbelievably tight way, they don't overplay, it's an almost perfect rendition of this song.

As a guitar player of some 50 years experience, myself, I look at these guys...sometimes I get inspired and think of all the musical mountains I have yet to climb, and sometimes I realize that I am bumping up against the limits of my talent and know that I will never be able to play this well. Either exciting or depressing, depending on the day. Does anybody else think this way, wondering how far their talent will take them?
@rae05214 жыл бұрын
I used to ramble around in the psychological bushes too. Somehow, over time, it became quite OK not to be the BEST at anything. I think it had something to do with putting a stop to comparing myself to others. I am UNIQUE and so is everyone else... each of us in our own way. Sure, these 5 players are ridiculously talented and play wonderfully together. Don't forget that to reach that level and stay that good you need much more than talent... you need the dedication to PRACTISE anywhere from 6 to 8 HOURS.... EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE. I'm sure it wouldn't take more than 5 minutes to discover that each of them has a long list of things they can't do very well and an even longer list of things they can't do at all. Just like everybody else.

I was eating late at night at a table by myself at Merlefest as the day's events were winding down, when Bryan Sutton and his little girl (about 4 or 5 at the time) sat down across from me. He is my favorite flatpicker. I kept repeating to myself inside my head "Just act normal. Just act normal." It took all my restraint to not start slobbering "Dude! You are so awesome! Oh Mighty King of All That Is Musical . . . ." A few years later I met Bryan again after a show and he was gracious enough to pose for a picture with me, both of us smiling. I keep that picture on the wall of my music room for inspiration. I love his playing.

+paulj0557 That's most definitely a Gibson, it's his '69, you can hear more about it on his Rig Rundown. The first time we went to see the Emmanuel Brothers in a small club in Sydney, maybe 30 people there, in 1985, I was amazed at the brilliance of talent, and also very impressed by the way the musicians gave each other space, listening to and appreciating what the others were doing. In this clip I see the same sort of attitude prevalent, and I just love the solid, unity of the rhythm that lets the wonderful solos safely fly out above it. I can’t wait to share it with my family.
