@Bryan Jenks, needed some help. In the daily note plugin how do I enable the timeline view? The description tells me to enter the command: Show the Day Planner Timeline. But I don't know where to enter it... Edit: (fine anyways got it) Just wanna add that I am very excited for your 0 to 100 for obsidian and hopefully it will contain everything I need for a novice like me :)
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
Glad you fiured it out :) for anyone else wondering, you have to attach the day planner to the current note THEN view it. There are 4 day planner commands in the command palette, you attach then view timeline :) The course should be for an absolute beginner who knows nothing of markdown and has never touched obsidian, all the way to where im at now :)
@Sodo40824 жыл бұрын
Also the command is put by opening the command window by pressing ctrl +p and then write the command there.(this was mainly what i struggled with. Not knowing the basics.)

Thank you so much for this video!! I have never heard about YAML, but now I can use it in my vault without problem. I have a question: where do I find more uses for YAML? And I'm sorry to hear there are only 2 metadata options.
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
there's 3 now with CSSCLASS being a recent addition to obsidian. YAML is just a way of structuring data so it really depends on what tool/application you're using YAML in to see what else can be done with it. i use it a lot with RMarkdown documents. and there are some videos in the pinned comment about YAML if you'd like to learn a bit more :)

I am torn between obsidian and notion as my tool to setup a learning hub for my SCRUM/product owner exam. I am already decent at using notion with the backlink feature but I am really tempted to try obsidian because it looks more efficient. The only thing I wonder is how much time it would require to set up obsidian. I see that you have some kind of templates for the hashtags and colouring. So how much do I need to invest up-front before using obsidian, roughly estimated?
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
initial setup in obsidian is minimal, you can follow the KISS method and don't have to make it as elaborate as i have things. Ultimately it comes down to what works for you, what actually facilitates the act of actually *DOING* work, and if that's notion then use that. if you want to and can afford to learn a little about Obsidian, i think you can tell what my recommendation might be ;) i do have my templates available if you'd like them, and if you have any questions feel free to ask publicly to help others or search for answers: github.com/BryanJenksCommunity/FAQ or chat with me and my community all together: discord.gg/MxCVshN :)

Just my thoughts, i use both tools. Obsidian more as a reference and Zettelkasten approach (in my case for martial arts and my PhD thesis), and Notion as Task-Manager, Trello-Replacement, Budget Planer etc etc.

Why not try RemNote.io? It is a pretty powerful learning tool
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
@@antonfruytier not sure if you were pointing that comment at me or not, but i did try remnote a little and i like it, and like the idea, but given that i keep my academic notes in Obsidian within my zettelkasten for the purposes of linking the knowledge together and prefer anki for my SRS it's kind of not worth it for me now. plus one of the selling points of obsidian for me was the non-SaaS app plain text file storage format.. all of that said though, i wish i had remnote back in high school/early college that would have been amazing

Hello Bryan, I signed up for the newsletter, even though you go over my head a bit. Could you show why your setup is a replacement to ZK?

Thanks for another very useful video! For me the 2 words tag [hello world] didn't work: I got a tag for each word (version 0.9.19). Any idea why? Already subscribed to your Newsletter! 🐄
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
You're most welcome! thank you for joining the newsletter, and to your question, it appears it must have been a bug not a feature LOL because in the video i was using 0.9.17 so the tags with spaces will now no longer work and its back to underscores 🤣️

Great video. I want hierarchical tags. Then I will finally obtain true happiness.
@BryanJenks4 жыл бұрын
i saw them implemented in NotePlan3 and i've heard they are in Bear after playing around with them i can definitely see how neat they could be. For me though with the way i "tag" things with [[tags]] and not #tags it wouldn't matter. plus with using nested tags as a form of taxonomy on the notes it is another way of replicating a hierarchical classification. that may be useful to some but overall i cant see that feature helping me much 🤷🏻♂️️ regardless, every feature released is fun to play with 🤣️

If you like, try to pronounce "Zettelkasten" to sound pretty german, pronounce it like it starts with a /t/, followed by a sharp /s/ (like in sign). ;)
