When the KB maintenance sequence hit, my wife and I just kinda looked at each other. My wife experiences this in real life. She has a neurological condition that manifests as severe full body muscle fatigue. She can barely move - barely even talk to ask for things she needs. And like Wim, here's me fumbling around trying to help her get comfortable, get medicine, get food, or whatever else she needs to start resting and recouping. After which she pops up like KB (though it takes longer for her to reset). The episode was written and executed wonderfully - really hit home.

Writing, directing & acting were all on point here - especially in how KB was written. That was one of the more effective portrayals of disability without being too preachy about it. That takes some skill & I think it was quite effective & a lot of people felt seen in her character. Again, these are CHILDREN & they're doing an exceptional job. And BDH doesn't miss with Star Wars.

Captain Rennod’s, in the holo-recording last episode, said he had the ship “clad in armor” for the trip to At-Attin, so there was a hint toward what we saw….which will be a very expensive Haslabs project in a couple years. Jod has exclusively used the Force in front of the kids, so there may be some deeper seeded fear for not letting other adults know he has the force (unless it is a very elaborate trick). We don’t know where or to what extent he was trained. The only thing missing from this ep was a better pirate shanty. I think Agatha spoiled us.

This show knocked it out of the park with the casting of their leads. All 4 of the kids and Jude Law are doing an amazing job. This feels like season 1 of Stranger Things when we saw a bunch of child actors and a veteran actor all blow up and become massive stars overnight.

In an interview showrunner Jon Watts talked to director Richard Donner about casting the kids for Goonies. He gave Watts the following great advice: "you don't cast kids to play a role, you cast kids because of who they are." So while casting Watts said he kept that in the back of his head and waited until he found kid actors who embodied his characters.

The fact that KB's 'augs' are very sensitive and easy to corrode might reflect the state of medical cybernetic technology on At Attin. Isolated cultures are often technologically backward compared to the rest of the world/galaxy. So the fact that your i-phone is able to go into the ocean reflects the fact that you have access to the latest, most up-to-date technology.

It was a very well written and directed episode. While KB was ,more in the spotlight all four kids got a little bit of personal growth in this episode. Also, I love me some percussive maintenance, well done KB 😆 I find it funny, that it still hasn't fully clicked for Nerdy, that the kids come from a planet that only knows the Old Republic, not the New Republic, they know nothing of the Empire, the Rebellion, the war etc. hence they can't know X-Wing. They where developed during the war against the Empire. About Jod and the lightsaber, I don't believe he was ever a fully trained jedi. At best, he was a padawan and not fully trained and if that, he probably ditched his lightsaber after Order 66, so it could not betray him, so he would not have used it in 35+ years. Who knows if he ever was good enough to deflect blaster fire at all.

Speaking of "Checkov's Button", Remember the button on the bridge that SM33 said "Never EVER touch that"? The "Emergency hull demolition sequencer" is NOT some self destruct but an explosive hull armor purge🤘😎👍 I guaranteed that under all the extra armoring is a much sleeker pirate raider! Active Armor Ablative Skin! False Hull Ejection! Called it! Another Legends callback revisited. Huzzah. Just like we see the true face of the Onyx Cinder, we see the true face of KB and her reliance on the Augs that keep her alive. There is value in both approaches to acknowledging her condition... both to be aware of the factual limitations and valid concerns as well as to allow for the ability to be treated "normally". KB may be introverted (especially compared to Fern) but she is no fragile wilting flower either. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be accepted and not treated differently, just as there is nothing wrong with understanding and being willing to confront the things that differentiate us. Everybody has baggage, and not everyone is equipped with convenient rollers.🥺👌 Uh, yeah. If the people of At Attin have been isolated since the Old Republic (or even the High Republic) they would not know Xwings. The closest thing they could be familliar with would be the Z95 Headhunters that were in use by planetary defense and raider fleets alike for centuries before the fall of the Republic and rise of the Empire... so generally non-denominational. 🤔

Remember, there was a huge amount of time where even mildly Force-sensitive people were kidnapped or killed by Inquisitors. And if you haven’t used the Force in a long time because you’re terrified of that, it makes sense you would be in the habit of hiding your talent. The kids have been cut off from the wider Galactic society so they don’t even know about the thing you’re terrified of, so it’s safe to use around them.

@@Greenhawk4 Well, not certainly the Old Republic as in KOTOR; in ANH, Obi-Wan refers to the pre-Empire government as ther Old Republic, and the X-wing is a development from both the ARC-170 and Z-95 programs, both of which are Clone Wars era tech. So there's a good chance that At-Attin was sequestered from the galaxy at large less than 1,000 years ago.

KB's augs may need regular maintenance they haven't received since the start of the adventure. And it's not just the steam, but ongoing limited maintenance, and multiple, rapid changes in environment could account for the failure. Also, space-magic-science. Great reactions, you two. Always fun and interesting to watch your reactions. Belated Happy New Year! 🎆🎇 Bryce Dallas Howard is an exceptional director. I *LOVE* this show. I like that they split them up into these unusual pairings. It was great to see a different dynamic instead of the "boys vs. girls" dynamic that they had in the beginning. I think the kids are amazing. All these kids characters got some sort of personal growth in such a short episode which took skill to write. I'm impressed. (Well maybe not Neel as much but he did that in ep 4 and he helped Fern to grow.) I'm happy that we got to watch KB portray what it's like to have a disability and that she struggles with it and don't want to be a burden/inconvenience to Fern. *I AM different.* I felt that! 👽♾️ "Thanks, Jedi" was a very heartwarming moment which made Wim be the hero he always wanted to be. ❤ Fern learned to listen, stop, think, acknowledge, and help Neel out when he communicate clearly to her that he couldn't keep up with her pace (which KB couldn't or wouldn't tell her out of fear of losing her best friend) which made her a better friend and Captain. I didn't expect to cry while watching this show, but here we are. 🥹😭❤️ Great that they used what they had learned in earlier episodes and how to cooperate to free the ship and became the Skeleton Crew. The Onyx Cinder is a badass ship and I need it! 😍 (Too bad Wim called claimsies first. 😔😁) Star Wars pirate shanty was pretty good. I hope that Jod will redeem himself and turn out to be a good person in the end. But we'll see! 2 episodes left... I need a lot more! ❤❤❤❤

Yes. The Blue Oyster Cult was a band from the 1970s. I think their most popular song was Don't Fear the Reaper. As far as bands with "Cult" in the name, there was also The Southern Death Cult, later shortened to simply The Cult. which was a British gothic punk band from the 80s. This same name (Southern Death Cult) was originally applied to the North American mound building culture, often now called "Mississippian", or on Wikipedia it's called "Southeastern Ceremonial Complex" (just looked it up to make sure I knew what I was talking about).

I think Disney missed a perfect opportunity to have Howard direct on the ill-fated Willow series (and, you know, hire writers who didn't suck at building on an established world... I mean come on, bubbly verbose office trolls and actually using the phrase "side quest" like it's a shitty D&D campaign). Her dad directed the movie back in the 80's, and to have her continue it on would have been fitting.

I'm making the assumption that Jod has had little more than very basic training, and was quite young at the time of order 66 - younger than, say, Kanaan. He probably hasn't practiced with a lightsaber in over 30 years, and trying to fight off a bunch of pirates would likely just end up getting himself killed. Re: KD - speaking as an American living in New England, we don't call it Kraft Dinner in the first place, so "KD" would make no sense. While it's the same food, here it's marketed/known as Kraft Mac & Cheese. And there's really no good acronym for that.

That opening slide/tunnel was 100% Goonies but unlike Goonies it looks like they didn’t actually build any of the waterslide which is why everything is so dark. Oddly the giant hermit crab at the end was mostly puppetry and it felt like a waste they barely interact with the monster. This episode in particular, while emotionally complex, I noticed the subpar cinematography as compared to episode 1. There was so much atmosphere, and nostalgia, in that first episode whereas this episode felt like it was filmed on the Volume.
