Mk 1 series 3 had the best foresight shroud, I wish they had kept it going for all the series 1's and through all the marks. The series 3 was the model with the separate tubular mounted front sight brought in as a temporary measure, BSA were experiencing accuracy problems from braising on the fore sights on the previous series, It would seem the heat was distorting the barrels muzzle. The tubular design was an added expense for BSA who lost no time in sorting their braising problem and unfortunately the stylish foresight shroud departed with the tube. Your stock has been refinished I remember this model having quite a luxurious appearance. And you are correct the stock on the carbine was a lot better than the S but the S had the better barrel, now how typical is that of BSA to complicate their market and never quite get things right

I'm afraid to have to inform you that this rifle is not a carbine model, for starters the barrel is too long and the action itself is a standard Airsporter action, the carbine used the S action which is different, the stock on your rifle is a carbine stock, which was also used on the later mk3 S, basically a carbine is a mk3 S with a shorter barrel, also the later S, carbine and carbine S had the maxigrip scope rail, looking at the top of your rifle you can see where the stock has been modified so the front of your cylinder/barrel can fit in.

You are correct...mine has other scoperail with small rearsight end on rail. Mine also have shorter barrell than this. Same stock! If you look close on movie you will see that the serial starts with GJ...that is a Mark V made 1971-1974. The Airsporter Carbine was made 1985-1986 and serial should start with GR same as all Stutzen Airsporters. Saw now what you mean with barrel is to long and stock is modified...tap looks completly different! Where his has holes for front sight...mine has only barrel!

Hi Paul, Thank you for your video and passion you show in describing this BSA Airsporter. I may actually have a chance of one in the coming weeks? May I ask, please? Were the BSA Airsporter's really any good? Or is it the fact of older gentlemen rekindling their youth and thinking back to their good old days? We are looking at 40-50 year old technology now. I'm thinking along the lines of, if I'm shooting an Airsporter, I could be shooting a 97K or a good pcp. Some Airsporters are nice looking, though in terms of build quality, I've heard some were ok, and some weren't so good? Any advice would be great Thank you, Ian.

Too be perfectly honest even the s ones are not as accurate or as well made as a HW97 OR 77 . Mostly its nostalgia, their ok but a Mercury s is a better old BSA than an Airsporter.

Ian...I have been looking for years for an Airsporter Carbine or an Airsporter Stutzen cause I think they one of the most goodlooking airguns out there. But now when I have one it is pure nostalgia! They have heavy onestage triggers and buildquality is nothing even close to a Weihrauch. But they are very beautiful😂...and expensive! 😮

Modern PCB air rifles don't appeal to me either. I'm into vintage air rifles from BSA & Webley up to the 1970s or so.

Can the barrel be sawn to make it a carbine ?
@fieldsportcymru46362 жыл бұрын
I think they have a slight choke on the barrel ,plus this is the carbine version

Ok yes I see it now But the carbine looks way better Great video dude. . I went to buy a brand new rifle but ended up buying this old rifle as it looked better an less generic than the other newer springers
