Thanks Brian that was a great watch. Good to see another way of getting paint off a tank. I have to strip mine soon 👍🏻 Looking forward Ron the next.

Just a comment about the petrol tank, Brian. I would have stripped the paint from the filler neck. I had a problem on a Harley where this wasn't done and petrol seeped under the paint at the neck and ended up creating a large blister under the tank finish near the filler neck. A custom motorcycle painter suggested that the neck be left unpainted to prevent this from happening. Just my experience 'tis all. Great videos though . . . love watching this stuff :)

Hi Dave, no I didnt but its not to late for me to remove the paint before I fill the tank again. Thanks for the tip, cheers B ( I did use 2 pack black golss which i'm told is not affeted by petrol, still doing it anyway, thanks)

@@500dbd34 Correct if the petrol is on top of the paint. Problem exists if the petrol is able to wick **under** the paint or under the primer which can happen if thick paint is chipped around the filler neck

Great video series. Could I please ask whether the cush drive lockring remains in place just as shown, or does something else have to be done to the tabs? I don't fully understand the function of it.
@500dbd342 жыл бұрын
The locking washer is needed to secure the lock nut, it fits over the splines on the main shaft and is then tapped into the slot in the lock nut with a thin tool, punch or screwdriver will do it.

@@500dbd34 Aha! Thank you very much. I see there are quite a few people recommend using loctite on this cush nut. Is that necessary if the lock ring is tapped into the slot?
@500dbd342 жыл бұрын
@@richardc8065 The lock tab will do the job, I do use loctite but not here. Cheers B

I found it strange that you didn’t put a nut on the threaded section then make your cut ,that way the nut remakes the damaged thread when removed!

You’re probably right but even then it’s good to put a light chamfer on the end of the bolt anyway. Thanks for the comment though, always appreciated. Cheers B
