BSA B33 scrambler rebuild part one

So this is my progress on the 1957 B.S.A. B33.
I have been tinkering with this for a year now but its finaly starting to come together!
As you see this is being built at a tough as nails scrambler for gravel, green lanes and hopefully the sweedway track at Bånn Gass in Kristiansand next year.

I think the bsa b31/3 motor is quite possibly the most aesthetically pleasing in the world. Better than a goldie, that push rod tower is a work of art

So true I am on the hunt for either b31/3/5 as long as it’s in my meagre budget,that engine has always been so beautiful ,I don’t hold much hope out as these lockdowns have meant a lot of lucky people with three money and nearly a year off have made the prices of projects ridiculous ,i and my wife have had to work right through so never mind lady luck my shine on me ha ha

I am really enjoying watching your work.Have spent the winter/spring installing the Czech/vape magdyno in my ‘56 bb33.

How has that worked out for you? I have fit 3 vape systems om my scooters and they are really good!

Had to adjust the stock clamp-down length for the Vape. Horizontally clamped the “magic box” under the battery. Using tiny “littlefuse” relays to control the beautiful Lucas prince of darkness switch. A similar but different job than redoing my ‘60 gb33. The goal has been to ride super early morning Sundays while the texters in Socal are sleeping. A headlight similar to Darth Vader’s sword, and a battery that doesn’t die.

I like your imperial adjustable spanner, I've got the metric version of that spanner. I'me liking the build, and I like your setup, a lot bigger than the garage I've got to work in.

I was lucky to find one in imperial. They are quite hard to find these days. 😉

Can you fit a timing disc to the crank spigot at the bottom of the timing case (the hex nut), Iam timing up a DBD34 for a mate and it seems a better place to put it rather than the primary side, I'll make an adaptor for the disk so I can attach it, great video Bud 👍

Hi Rob. I'd be greatful if you could tell me where you sourced the touring cams from ? Did you stick to standard b33 valve springs ? Great job btw. Regards Steve.

I bought the goldstar cams from autocycle engineering, along with the mudguards. Because I stayed with the original valves and head, I used some new, original valve springs.

13:00 Is this the recommended way to fit the pushrod tube? I had a B31 and could never seal the tube from oil leaks after removing the head and leaving the tube still attached to the timing chest.

I think so. I just followed the workshop manual. It still doesn't leak. 😎

@@kickbackgarage Aha! I never had a manual, trying to get the rubber gland pushed up evenly into the head was pretty well impossible!
