In this video we will uncover whatever is lurking under the paint of Project Stopgap's D5 fuel tank. Then we will give it a bath in my favourite de-rusting solution and see what, if anything, we are left with!

That was a brilliant video. Always love the material science take on things too. I swear by citric acid. I know the yanks bang on about evapo rust, you can stick that stuff up your arse as far as I am concerned, citric acid all the way. That was indeed a classic example of filiform or intergranular corrosion on the tank. The tank is a testament to its makers really. As you say it should have lasted until 1965, it has lasted 66 years so just about 10 times longer than it was intended to. Great film, congratulations on 1000 subscribaaaaaaaahzzz like.

Thanks very much. I'm a big proponent of the citric tank. Cost effective too. Best wishes, Dean.

Thanks Ade. Looking forward to our next jaunt. I'm pleased with the tank, it could have been horrendous under the paint. Best wishes, Dean.

Hi Mate........you sounded just like my structural repair instructor! Great work and that paint removal didn't turn up any really nasty issues, which is always nice. It's good to get a good run at things at times without too many issues and things will progress well. I use UPOL stuff too at times. It's great quality. 1000 subscribers is well deserved and true justification of your efforts.....

Thanks Bones, I was surprised myself about how good it was under the paint. There's a reason I sound like that.......you know! Hope all is well with you mate. Best wishes, Dean.

Man I hate that job, you made it look easy. It is rewarding when it's all done........and it doesn't leak. LOL

It was better than I thought it would be Dale. No leaks so far from the solvents I've had inside, the liner will safeguard it further. Best wishes, Dean.

That came out well Dean. I used to use the origonal Nitromors , which I think is banned these days. Hope the end result is good. Well done on the 1000 subs too. Steve.

Cheers Steve, this stuff is as good if not better than the old Nitromoors. It certainly did the job. Best wishes, Dean.

I used nitromors 30 years ago scratch the paint paint it on wash off in 10 mins all the paint would just rinse off. Nice video wish I could get hold of that paint stripper I have a few projects that could use it. Congrats on the 1K subs.

You might be able to get it, search for Methylene Chloride paint stripper. Things might be stricter in Spain, I'm not sure. Glad you enjoyed the video. Best wishes, Dean.

@@retromechanicalengineer Will give it a go but its strange here I can buy nitric acid here in the supermarket sulfuric acid 60% in the ironmongers but you have to sign and produce id for paraffin and paint stripper is a no no.
