Do you have any catch can kits for the Countryman S, or would this one fit as well?

Wow, that is one hell of mounting spot, and also the routing of the hose is perfect! All the best!
@mykalimba6 жыл бұрын
The electrical connector that you disconnect at 9:45 is routed differently when you reconnect (under the thinner hose before; over the same hose afterwards). Just an FYI; probably not a big deal.

Great video. I see there is also a breather line on the top left of the engine which I would imagine goes to the intake manifold. If so couldn't this contribute to the carbon build up on the intake valves? Do you have a solution to block or remove that breather line?
@minimania4 жыл бұрын
The build up is because of the re-introduction of oil vapor blow-by into the intake - unless that line goes to the intake, then I would leave it alone. But I wouldn't willy-nilly "block off" any vacuum or other lines. That a sure bet to trigger an evap loss engine light or some other issue.
@markeprice42953 жыл бұрын
@@minimania The top left connection is the PCV system venting during negative inlet manifold pressure ie when idling - the one connected to the catch can in this video is when the turbo has kicked in and the inlet manifold is at positive pressure - the valves in the camcover change positions and the top left one is closed off and the one on the right is opened. Some have catch cans on both systems. One on the top left only prevents carbon build up on the inlet manifold of course - the one in the pic above prevents oil build up right from the turbo, through the intercooloer through the throttle body and then the inlet manifold.

How can you tell the difference between an N14/N18 or an R56/57 engine ? I have a 2014 Mini cooper S turbo roadster convertible 42,000 miles 1.6 l engine. thanks in advance. Great video

Okay I got an 09 Cooper S excellent running car need to install the catch can. I understand the purpose of the catch can I also have oil vapor going through the engine ,and I thought it was going through the turbo cuz I saw a little bit coming out of that PCV Line all the videos are showing people installing the catch can on. however that source was only maybe 10% of the crankcase oil Vapor the other 90% was going out that PCV tube going out the back of the valve cover/PCV which go down under the intake to the throttle valve housing. That particular line when the car is running has so much suction on it , that I can't help but think it would far outperform the effectiveness as far as location goes for removing oil vapor why are there no videos of the catch can being installed between the PCV valve cover and throttle body? Now I heard of someone plugging off that line which I have done there was an incredible increase in power incredible reduction in tailpipe smoke in oils coming out of the tailpipe a much-improved Idle and better drivability since plugging that rear line to the throttle valve now Plumbing the catch can into the side discharge port of the valve cover going to the turbo inlet, seems like it would actually now be able to perform the function that it was intended to perform. Am I correct in this Assumption of theory?

sorry if it's a stupid question but why use a catch can when you can just use a hose that goes through the engine room to the ground? ECU errors? or Legal problems?

Oil on the ground under your car everywhere you go and in your driveway/garage. Likely won't pass a smog visual. Not environmentally friendly. Lots of reasons.

Doesn't the OEM valve cover already have an oil vapor condensing function? (Not that is does it adequate job of condensing the oil vapor due to its proximity to the engine.) It seems to me that any oil catch can should to be mounted as far away as possible from the engine in a well ventilated area for maximum effect. Furthermore, the oil catch can might benefit from cooling fins.
@minimania7 жыл бұрын
Well, the OEM valve cover already collects and then hands off blow by for re-burning. But a catch can designed for cooling probably isn't going to make this process more efficient since the blow by gets into the cover via crankcase pressure and not any temperature differential. It seems to me you don't want to add a temperature differential since the separation process only works if the oil vapor can reach the can and then condense into droplets. Cooling that process down may actually interfere with this process.

What is the internal diameter of the hose? compared to the original hose it looks restrictive, will the smaller size cause problems later on?
@minimania5 жыл бұрын
The hoses are being added to this system - not replacing existing hoses so their diameter doesn't really factor into it as you're suggesting. This is an add-on oil and oil vapor reclamation system, the hoses with this kit are more than adequate for the purpose of a catch can.

There is a prototype out of Florida and I think RX makes a “dual catch can” I just ordered 2 M7’s OCC and will just put two systems and have 100% protection. Both sides would be the wise decision. That’s the conclusion I got from all the research I’ve done.

I've got this on my Cooper S for quite several months. Got the catch can as a full kit. However , the tube with the fitting that goes into the valve cover keeps coming loose after 1 week or 2 of driving. Am I doing something wrong? Should I buy new tubes/fittings and refit everything? It came almost totally off, once, and made a mess on the valve cover...
@minimania9 жыл бұрын
Mini Cooper Hmmm...I don't know of anyone else who's reported that. Did you make sure that the o-ring was in place on the fitting that attaches at the valve cover?
@sassyrav8 жыл бұрын
Im fitting this kit now myself, this same adapter just keeps popping out, Ive tried using the two smaller O rings it pops out once it has sideways pressure on it caused by the hose and if i use the fatter O rings it pops out without a hose even on it. I think the only way Ill be able to hold it in place is cable tie the hose down once its on to hold the adapter in.
@sassyrav8 жыл бұрын
and thats what I did, I used two fat cable ties in a criss cross formation to hold the Valve Cover hose down which held the adapter in its place, I cable tied it to the large airbox intake hose.

NICE! Glad you got it in place. The adapter kept falling out till the day i sold the mini. Lol

Can you pass smog with a catch can installed?
@minimania9 жыл бұрын
+Tyrone Taylor Probably, but hard to say for sure. In essence this set up is actually better for the environment in that it reduces the amount of crankcase vapors being re-burned and sent into the atmosphere via your tailpipe. However, it could fail a visual inspection if the tech knows what to look for or simply sees something that isn't "stock." If you're worried I would just remove it and reinstall it - it's not a great lot of work swapping it out especially if it's only done every two years ;-)

i did installed this oil catch can in my 2007 MCS about six months ago and I did checked 3 times already and it does not seems to have collected nothing. even though my car ran about 1000 miles already. what it might be the cause of this issue?
@minimania8 жыл бұрын
Hard to know. Some cars will obviously produce more or less oil vapor than others depending on mileage, other modifications, driving style, etc. But 1000 miles is really just a start. you generally only need to empty a catch can after an oil service. On some cars it may take longer - 2 or more oil changes, again, depending on the car and the driver.

@willielemosse36618 жыл бұрын
btw I have totally rebuild engine and a new upgrated turbo aswell. Idk if that matters? í will apreciatte any comments. I have two videos on my channel.
@minimania8 жыл бұрын
Newer engines and rebuilds aren't going to produce as much oil vapor as older engines. As an engine ages, the piston rings wear and don't seal against the cylinder walls as they once did. Eventually, there's some compression loss and that can lead to more oil vapor escaping and fouling the PCV system. On boosted engines, this is magnified which is why catch cans are good idea to keep the system cleaner and more efficient.
