Definitely set up a salt water tank, biggest you can. There are plenty of tutorials on YT. As you won't be keeping coral, all you'll need is a filtration system and maybe a heater so the water doesn't get too cold. Are you close enough to the ocean to collect your own water? It's a cool way to cut down on costs. Remember to check the various classifieds for a used or second hand tank - sometimes you can get a whole system for free when people are moving house. Of the fish you caught, the big eye, the butterfly fishes and the cowfish would do well ( plus you're saving them from certain death by hypothermia) You could always release them when the water heats back up next year. By the way, short bigeye are listed as $125.00 retail. Soooo thats a thing

@@Bsprecksfishing yes, some of the best trips I had were out of Montauk, party boats and my friends Parker, fluking mostly, one alter the other, mostly shorts but a great load of fun. As a kid, I grew up in Brooklyn, so countless trips out of Sheepshead Bay (late 1970s to mid 1980s) and a friend of mine was a mate on the Helen H (when we were 16/17) felt like so much more action back then, rarely a trip where we came back empty. Another trip, a nighttime on the Amberjack, one blue after the other, may arms ready to fall off, with my buddy Scotty D, unfortunately the minute the ropes came off the cleats, I saw that “look” in his face, he got so seasick. I’m yelling “Scotty !!! Get out here, great action !! Hitting them one after the other.” and all I see is his head against the window, his mouth agape, ready to wretch but trying to sleep it off.

I'm from Florida and I live by the Chesapeake Bay now in VA. I'm surprised how many species you caught that also live in Florida. They must be around the Chesapeake Bay too. I know a guy who uses bait a lit who caught decent mangrove snappers here and at least one jack cravelle. I jigged for flounder and redfish all summer and didn't really try to catch much else. Maybe for my 3rd summer here I'll try to catch different species. It's definitely better on the Eastern Shore over by the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge. There were recently big bluefin tuna biting there in the mouth of the bay. It's usually too cold for fishin right now for me, and definitely too cold for the kayak. Anyway I'm impressed with the different fish you caught up there. Very interesting.

@BsprecksfishingАй бұрын
Yeah I had a freshwater tank when I was young, never a saltwater one though.. I know it’s a lot more complicated
@NotacladistАй бұрын
@@Bsprecksfishing Not as complicated as you might think. Some years ago, I set up a small tank when I lived blocks from the Sound while living in Bridgeport, Conn. I only used an undergravel filter, and plopped in anything that would fit in a 20 gal., that I could net. Using local critters and plants obviated the need for heaters and constant hyper-cleanliness, like the way most people keep tropical salt tanks. Just like my fresh water tanks that I've kept through the years. The hardest part is lugging in the initial salt water from the ocean. Replace the evaporated water with tap water. The salt doesn't go anywhere. Easy-peasy after that. Give it a shot.

Many of these appear to be young specimens and that implies that adults are spawning in non-traditional waters. Any ideas on how these appearances occur from biologists?
@BsprecksfishingАй бұрын
The vast majority of these species get carried up in the Gulf Stream as juveniles and end up here which is nothing new. However, rising water temperatures and the Gulfstream moving slightly closer to the coast is increasing this phenomenon
