Folks, there's a reason why "The Conners" SUCKS!!!!! It's because Roseanne is not involved--in front of the camera and behind the camera. I personally think that she was a victim of today's sensitive, politically correct, whiny, you offended me world we now live. I first discovered the "Roseanne" show through my mom, a black woman. The show attracted viewers of all races. I became curious one night after hearing her constantly chuckle while watching tv in my parent's bedroom. "Mom, what are you laughing at," I said. "It's a new show called 'Roxanne.'" :)

When Americans bought into the "Brady Bunch" like family of the Cosby Show, her show came along and presented a more realistic portrayal of family relationships, the annoyances, the togetherness, the struggle of family and work, never an even balance. I knew and saw more families like the Connors and never knew anyone like the Huxtables. Lol
@mikearchibald7443 жыл бұрын
That was true, but that was original showrunner Matt Williams. Roseanne's standup was a lazy woman who watched soaps and ate junkfood all day. Matt Williams and Carsey-Werner, who had DONE the cosby show, wanted a blue collar and more realistic working class family. Those original scripts and house were all done before Roseanne. The show actually started to worsen as she got more and more control. If you recall, the first season had her in a factory with lots of other workers and even a potential union angle. There is a hard and fast rule in Hollywood that you NEVER talk about unions in network television. And thats of course why the eighties families all had really weird jobs that were never blue collar or organized. They didn't actually have a union but it was pretty close. Then they dumped that idea and instead made her a waitress and ultimately a small business owner. The 'working class' was weeded out of it, only the working class money problems remained. Money problems are OK, so long as you don't talk about public policies to deal with them, like minimum wage. Not to mention Michigan is a state that has Citizen Initiatives which means at any time they could have joined other working class families and actually gotten political in forcing state wide referenda. But thats the other rule in network television, don't get political. You can show political problems, but thats it. So all those those things actually predated Roseanne, you can watch the emmy interviews with carsey werner and Matt Williams to see that. She most definitely came at the right place at the right time, as she pretty much admits here. Thats doesn't take away from her talent at all, she was certainly one of the funniest of those eighties comics, and she was certainly a better actor than people like Jerry Seinfeld.
@Ran-333 жыл бұрын
@@mikearchibald744 The show was based on her life as a working woman. Williams stole her life like The Conners stole her show in 2018. He was fired in the first season. @maxmulsanne70543 жыл бұрын
@Mike Archibald The show not only started to worsen in the ratings since 1993-94 season (oddly enough after her plastic surgery indulgence was a bit obvious), but it flat out sucked. Their scenarios would have been fine if they weren’t internally directed (by guess who?) to include over-the-top acting that started to resemble the Bundys on Married With Children nonsense. Also I don’t think that it was a good idea to advocate and achieve Tom Arnold as a writer for the show. I tried watching it up to the 1994-95 season but I gave up on it. The show went from entertainment to boring @ss silly.
@mikearchibald7443 жыл бұрын
@@maxmulsanne7054 Well, some think the slide started after the first season when Matt Williams the showrunner left. As I said, he and the producers were the ones looking for the grounded feel. It did benefit from the fact that like Seinfeld and the Simpsons it was at least unique. It also had jokes which at least were better than most. But thats what they say in Hollywood, in fact I even seen a screenwriter tag on KZbin about it. The first season was about the plot-a blue collar family. But as this screenwriter says, people won't remember your plot but they will remember your characters. To my mind that kills a LOT of shows.
@mikearchibald7443 жыл бұрын
@@Ran-33 No, it wasn't. First of all she wasn't a 'working woman', she was a comedian ever since 79. She never worked at a factory, she never owned a small business. The show was already pitched and being worked on before they even MET her. She was also pitched Married ...With CHildren, which at the time was going to be her and Sam Kinison. But she had terrible representation who said she was going to make movies. She had never even MET Williams or evne spoken to him to even KNOW her life. Her act was completely different and was based on being a spoiled housewife, NOTHING like what the show became. Thats not to say that later on she didn't try to champion at least some of those values, but its completely wrong to state that the show was based on her life OR her act. Even she doesn't say that.

I remember thinking finally a real family on tv. When I was a kid I didn't see anyone on tv that looked like mine. I also remember the children were the stars of the shows and all the storylines we're about them, except for a few bread crumbs they sent to the adults once in awhile. Rosanne was about her and her husband which I loved. They really did her wrong in the end all the unforgiving self righteous Hollywood.

I do remember watching an interview with Carsey and Warner and they said they were developing this show and were interested in Roseanne for the project. If you watch the Carsey interviews, you can see how difficult it is to get show off the ground. I thought the network created the show but apparently a production company creates it and pitches to the network. Once the show became #1 and Roseanne's name was on it, she was the Queen Bee. And Carsey and Warner brought in the high quality actors to help Roseanne. Whatever the case, this was a great show. I didn't understand why they went with certain plot changes and devices. There seemed to be an effort to keep Jackie down and out by ending her career as a cop. And I thought Roseanne once said that she wanted changes after Season 1 because they were only seen sitting around eating. Also, taking Roseanne out of the factory cut down on the extras and brought the show back to the house and the core characters.

The volume is too low.

I have to hold my phone to my ear to hear. The commercials are the right volume but I am not here for them. I'm here to hear Roseanne. I think she will be back in some form. She's a very creative person. Regular TV is not an option. If she wants it bad enough, she'll be back. She was a genius on that show. She's an actress and she'll create another character.

If only she would have stayed off social media,she would still be in "Roseanne" and there would be no such show as "The Conners" you watch her old shows on DVD or on KZbin..you really see what we're missing out on!

it seems like this interview occurred prior to the second version of Roseanne and her subsequent scandal. anyone know when it was taped?

I put chopped up Snickers bars into my chocolate pudding to this day. Thank you Rosanne!

I enjoyed this interview with Roseanne. It kind of makes me sad thinking about the path she took over the last few years, as she really derailed her own resurgence.

Gaslighting by blaming her for what the democrat party did to her. Too bad she thought a corrupt politician was white. Racist Biden democrats are too blind.

@Ran oh shut up. She did it to herself. We can repair what she's done for tv and comedy but it ends there. She said something horribly racist

Roseanne is a talented, genius woman. It's so sad that she went off into conspiracy nutso Trump land.

Conspiracies are real. We are being pushed into a cashless society with internal passports. If you can't see that you are blind.

Roseanne wants you to believe her show was ground-breaking, when most of its topical storylines had ALREADY been explored by All in the Family and/or Maude.

Maude had a big clean house and nice hair and clothes.

When was this aired ? Before or after her wild tweeting and having her show canceled ?
