This song is based off of a quote by a famous choreographer that says, "Every dancer dies twice. The first death is when they stop dancing, and this one is the more painful." In short, this song is about their fear that someday they will lose their passion for music, which is such a deeply rooted part of their identity, and what would they do if that happened. This song is from their Map of the Soul album series which is inspired by the psychological concepts of Carl Jung, especially the persona, the shadow, and the ego. The shadow represents aspects of ourselves that we have repressed...inner, hidden fears, and character traits we don't feel free to reveal.

The main dancer in this MV, with the blue hair, is Jimin. He is trained in contemporary dance (he went to an arts school for dance and was at the top of the whole school in contemporary dance), so he really got to shine in this one. He is also the shadow dancing behind Suga at the beginning.

Jin is the official visual of the group...it's ok for you to think he's cute. 😆 An interviewer recently asked him if it bothered him when people focus more on his looks than on his singing and dancing talent and he said it didn't ...that he considers his good looks to be a plus, like decoration on top of a delicious food. 😂

Hi Tiani....thanks for giving this song a listen! BTS is so versatile....they cover all genres of music. My memory is not that great but I'm sure another ARMY will be able to explain the video OR there may be an explanation video on DKDKTV channel. The lyrics aren't always enough to understand the meaning of the song. For instance, this song's video has a LOT of references to one's 'shadow'. The best way to understand is to start with the rap song 'Persona' followed by the explanation video. It will help you to understand all of the songs that follow Map of the Soul, the Carl Jung inspiration for this album series. The philosophy is about understanding the different parts of one's self and accepting all of those parts...like Shadow, Ego, etc. IOW, BTS songs are brilliantly written and hold much deeper meaning than just the surface lyrics.
