The songs DAECHWITA, HAEGEUM AND AMYGDALA (and their respective MVs) make up the trilogy that represents Suga's alter ego. They are part of the same universe and tell of the struggles between their inner demons and other personas. They are simply incredible, revealing, deeply symbolic and meaningful. DAECHWITA (traditional Korean march, played for kings, army movements, etc.), is the first in the trilogy and was an applause for all who hate him. While in the title song AGUST D Suga was full of anger, resentment and disillusionment with the world, in this song he presents himself with an impetuous but somewhat calm personality. Furthermore, in the MV there are two AGUST Ds: the one with black hair was the poor one (appears with 6 friends, mention of BTS) and the blonde one was the king (tyrant who kills opponents and dissidents). In the tent, a woman (reference to ARMY) gives the poor man the key to start the revolution. So, he and his 6 friends arrive at the king's lands without fear. Where they show the drawing of Bang Si-hyuk (“creator of BTS”). The king sentences him to death, however, even tied up and on his knees, he continues singing DAECHWITA. The other condemned men join the revolt, singing DAECHWITA. Finally, the executioner who was supposed to kill the poor man also joins the revolt, frees him and gives him a weapon, with which he kills the tyrant king. With this we have a metaphor to demonstrate the lower class “overthrowing the system”. Totally relatable to BTS who started as a discriminated group (from a small almost bankrupt company), who were despised and disdained, but ended up becoming the biggest Korean group in k-pop (true kings of the game). In the time of dynasties, the poor would never be part of the elite but today BTS who started small is the elite. The achievement was extremely difficult, however, with hard work, talent and determination they “overthrew” the dominant system of the Korean music industry (and continue to do so until now, overturning the arrogance and prejudice of the global music industry). Fun fact: JIN and JUNGKOOK appear as extras in the MV - they fight when SUGA bumps into JIN at the fair. HAEGEUM is the second in the trilogy and this word has two meanings: 1 - it is a traditional Korean instrument that was also used in music; and, 2 - unblock, release or suspend a prohibition or restriction. The song and MV are conveying a message about how idols shouldn't be tied down by people's social expectations and should be free to do whatever they want. An example of this is that in the MV's plot there is a scene where he was smoking. This is more of an autobiographical song, a story of Suga's life, especially during his years of struggle. Everything in this song really happened, even his mother's heart surgery (making him question whether it was right for him to be born) and his father's liver cancer. But now his parents are fine. Suga was in a car accident while making deliveries on his scooter during his trainee days before BTS's debut, where his shoulder was torn. He said he remembers seeing the tire next to his head. He never told Big Hit about the accident, fearing he would be cut from BTS and their debut. He worked for years with extreme pain in his shoulder, until 2020, when he had shoulder surgery. In some live performances, you may see him not moving his left side, lifting his arm, or rubbing his left shoulder area. The pills you see him taking in the MV are probably painkillers, but he used to take cortisone shots before performances so he could dance. The pain he endured is heartbreaking! And that's why he's not in the military, but rather doing military service through the social service department. Amygdala (ah-mig-dah-lah) is the part of your brain that stores your traumatic memories. He's the size and shape of an almond, so you see him eating almonds in the MV. He needs his amygdala to save him from all his painful memories, asking his own brain to help him process everything he's been through, but also begging him to forget some of the things that still torment him. Oh, during the last show of his D-Day tour in Seoul, he managed to get through the door. This trauma will always be a part of him, but now he has overcome it and can move on because our AGUST D, (SUGA, MIN YOONGI) is healthy now! He knows he is not alone in this world living with depression, social anxiety and OCD. And when he openly exposes his emotional and mental baggage for the world to see, he shows us that we're all in this together. His words and lyrics offer understanding and acceptance to those who feel marginalized and stigmatized by the true anguish they feel. Suga is basically saying that it's okay to not be okay, but that we should seek help and have the chance to be our best selves. To do this, we must love each other! 💜🇧🇷💜🇧🇷💜🇧🇷💜

The accident that suga talks about is the car accident in the mv that happened pre debut but he really doesn't touch on the fact that the accident left him with serious shoulder injury that never truly healed and had recurrent pain for 7 years before finally getting surgery in 2020. He never told bighit how the accident really happened instead claiming he fell down some stairs for fear of bighit sending him home.

Daechwita is a traditional Korean genre of military music that was once played in royalty processions.
@nneichan935314 күн бұрын
Agust D/Suga/YoonGi is famous for saying he killed his past self. That is how I see this MV. He is a new person now. He is in some ways still fighting against himself, because even if you become a new person you really can't escape your past. Daechwita is 'get out of my way' music. And I see it as his past and the first change as he stepped onto his new path. Suga (along with RM) is a poet/philosipher and a deep thinking lyricist, a true genius. He is self-aware enough to know this and unapologetic about it. Amygdala, well, I can't watch it after the first time, I find it so upsetting. It is incredibly disturbing, to me, but I can recognize this trilogy is a masterpiece.
@susanpattison504314 күн бұрын
There’s a Korean man that explains Daechwita in detail and it’s just wow, amazing. Haegeum also means freedom or liberation from something which is what Suga is saying in the song. Amygdala is a part of the brain responsible for processing and storing emotions and the song is everything Suga has been through. You should check out The Last (lyrical video) by him because it is amazing and a damn emotional rollercoaster lol😷
@cinand436112 күн бұрын
Low views on Amygdala is likely due to the YT warning for depictions of self-harm; it doesn’t auto-play on playlists (you have to give permission every time) and it doesn't come up on recommendation/algorithm. It's only there if you look for it
@andreaebeling632014 күн бұрын
The fact that he went through all of this and has come through to the other side tells me that he is such a fighter! Please listen to his song The Last it is a lyric video. It has nothing to do with this trilogy but it is still an extremely powerful song.

Daechwita!!! The song played when the king arrives!!! And original daechwita is played at the very beginning before the title, Daechwita, appears in Korean; Suga composed a contemporary daechwita trap style. This daechwita never changes; only his tempo and flow changes!!!! King Suga and lower-class peasant Suga! Haegeum has two different meanings; the second one applies, which is the lifting of a ban on something forbidden!!! Once again, Suga composed a contemporary daechwita, but slower, slightly more melodic! Suga's duality again, as he is the corrupt detective Suga and the street criminal Suga. Amygdala is a part of the brain that holds memories and controls fears and reactions!!! Everything in the video happened to Suga, in the flashes you see his struggles and traumas, including his suicide attempt, where Jin found him and saved him! This also explains his scar! This trilogy of total works (2 mixtapes and album) is pure genius as he started writing this in 2014-2015, as his first mixtape, titled Agust D, was released in 2016, his D-2 mixtape, with Daechwita, was released in 2020, and Haegeum and Amygdala were on his 2023 D-Day album!!!!! His D-Day album connects all his works from his first 2 mixtapes and album into several cohesive storylines about his struggles, hardships, and traumas he faced in his life!!!! Many said his D-Day album didn't have a main theme - DUH!!!!! The themes were all connected to his first 2 mixtapes!!!!! Listen to his Agust D and D-2 mixtapes from beginning to end, followed by D-Day and you can clearly see his interconnected themes!!! His 3 works are pure genius and get better and better!!!! IMO, D-Day was the 2023 album of the year!!!!!!! Yes, Suga is my bias!!!!!

Yoongi is living proof that vulnerability is not weakness. He was strong enough not only to survive his depression and everything he's been through, but also to fight for his dreams and FLOURISH, and then reach back a hand and help others get through it as well. His lyrics demonstrate a level of introspection and self-awareness that I, at nearly twice his age, only dream of achieving. (When he was born, I was graduating college.) He is VERY vocal about mental health, and has said that in interviews that if even one person's life is made better by sharing what he's gone through, it was all worth it. (And this is one of the many reasons ARMY defends him so ardently.) The fact that he creates so much beauty out of pain is just astounding. The lotus really is a perfect symbol for him-- it grows buried in muck, but produces one of the most beautiful, heavenly-scented blooms on earth.

Amygdala is one of the songs I love the most, when I heard it for the first time, I cried a lot, I put myself in his place, Suga shows through his lyrics, what he has in his eyes... you look at him and see depth, he is so wonderful... I think the way he shows all his love for the boys is amazing, even though he is more closed, it shows that, despite all the suffering and struggle he had, he did not lose his inner warmth and overcame and continues to overcome all the obstacles that life imposes on him... it's good that he has music to release all this content, this certainly helped and helps him, to get out of the darkness that he could sometimes be in... for these and other reasons that BTS is this giant that it is... besides him, there are 6 other treasures to make us happy.... 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

These are three of my all time favorites. They are all about him and his growth and changes in mindset. Amygdala is about his fight to overcome the tragedies in his past. He has been very open about his fight against OCD, depression and social anxiety and the recurrence of them. Some of his other stuff I would recommend are "Agust D", (it's self titled), "Snooze" and "That That" with PSY (he wrote, produced and performed in the MV). All three are very different and all are excellent.

It's such a gift to be a part of the fandom AND be at their same age because we all seemingly live through life with similar outlooks and it's amazing to be able to understand the inner struggles in real time (of course, we can't understand everything as we're not all celebrities but at the core, our human experience, I feel, can be so similar and we're all, sooner or later, living through the same struggles)

Haegum is a two string instrument, and in each mv and song in Suga's trilogy, I always put one interpretation to the duality of personas he's representing where he's always fighting a former version of himself, kills it, and moves on evolved. It is also, like you said the lifting of inhibitions, but finding a balance, whereas not to take that to the opposite extreme, and engaging in reckless and possibly harmful, indulgences.

A lifelong admirer of Sakamoto, Suga is shown meeting with him for the first time. Suga gives the deepest bow besides full bow that is all the way on the floor in his honor. Watch when he shakes the hand of Ryuichi. He is trembling, and his arm is shaking in awe of being in the presence of a great. Ryuichi Sakamoto also liked Suga a lot and coached him on piano. He died not long after this song was released. You may not be ready for 'Dear My Friend' yet. I've watched the video of his live performance at Seoul a hundred times and still cry.

ARMY who love Yoongi have a hard time with Amygdala. I also think it's his best. Just before they Debuted in 2013, Big Hit was about to have to declare bankrupsty . They could not work outside big hit, but to help pay rent and feed members he took a parttime delivery job. this accident happened and dislocated his shoulder and tore ligaments. He told Bang and members he fell down stairs because he was afraid they would fire him. He did get some therapy, and cortisone shots from time to time for 7 yrs so he could dance. The only one that knew the truth we think we Jin, but not for years. Finally he had to tell Bang the truth. Bang felt so bad, ( suga talks of this on his talk show I think?) Bang took him off schedule almost immediately and got him surgery, that's the 6 weeks Suga is gone from BTS but they always left his spot open on stage. I think Jin knew, and then he told RM and all 3 of them went to tell Bang the truth.
