This song and MV is about BTS and ARMY(that's why the mv starts with "ARMY TIME", it's the special moment at the end of all their concerts, dedicated to us). The girl represents us, and the boy is BTS,(when they hold hands, you can see the BTS's logo) how we were always there for them(the girl transforming in a cape), how success and hardships made them almost forget this bound but eventualy they can make it right. @@BeardsBrains in their songs, BTS do not speak about or to , "a girl", they mostly talk to ARMY(if you don't count their first trilogie album). They try to be gender neutral, specially for the "ARMY songs". You should react to some of them, like "Magic shop", "Mikrokosmos", "Answer love myself", "2!3!", "We are bulletproof: the eternal". Most of them don't have MVs(beside We are bulletproof: the ....) but you can stil watch the lyrics version or the live performances. Those are really special songs for us 💜

FYI... This song is more about ARMY than an actual female. BTS has a lot of songs dedicated to ARMY than just a single person. This song was written/composed by Ed Sheeran.

This is the story of btsxarmy.. it’s definitely one of their more “romantic” sounding songs, but even when they write about “love” and seeking that conventional love story, they always find a way to tie it back to their own lives.. they speak to the fans and even to each other.. tear is another one that’s about a breakup, but in reality, the members wrote it while they were going through a hard time and thought about breaking up as a band. They tie so many strings and stories into songs that until they explain it themselves, we’re usually lost lol you can never take their music at face value ! I love that about them..

I think because it's music & music is interpreted by everyone differently​ which increases the repeatability & BTS always makes music open to interpretation they write it in a way that it isn't just specific to them. Even though they know their interpretation or who they want to dedicate it to or why they wrote it. But it works perfectly fine as a romantic song. If someone wants to connect this to their relationship rather than with BTS it's absolutely works.

The girl was the cape. She never left him and was always with him. protected against the desert sun and the winter cold, and the fire from the dragon(shield). If you notice earlier, the depiction of the sword turned into the mic. That is the weapon. She stood beside and walked with him thru the ppl that were laughing at them for their name, their small company, their lack of money etc.... This song in particular was for their fans/army. The music video has animation that narrates "the journey of the hero", it's a literature storytelling structure. Make It Right is a fan song, the boy represents BTS, the girl represents ARMY. That's also why there's footage of BTS in concert, interacting with the crowd. It is a love song, I think it's valid to interpret it as romantic love, obviously there's room for interpretation. In this version, Lauv adds a verse in English instead of V's original Korean verse, Laugh seems to have been thinking about an old relationship of his. (If I remember his interview well.) Journey of the Hero: Departure from your land; self discovery, facing challenges; facing your destiny and achieving miracles... There's the symbolisms of crossing the desert (going through trials and tribulations, which is a common reference in BTS music), the symbolism of defeating the dragon (overcoming your fears, as you pointed out), the symbolism of being protected or gaining strength thanks to the love/support of someone else (the magical cape from the girl accompanies him, as a shield)... Etc. Of course, it's very summarized, not every trope is addressed, but that's the idea. Overall, I think you're right, it's quite a romantic song. Very heartfelt too. It's not my favorite from the album, but it's definitely a fan favorite.

When you listen to the lyrics, try to listen to it in the concept of them and their relationship with Army. They would not be here today if not for Army that has stood behind them, defended them, comforted them, and remained with them. Like JK said, they are sad because they cannot perform for us, that their only reason is to perform for us. For Army, the only reason we exist is because of BTS which brings all of us together from all over the world, multiracial, multi-religions, multi-generations, multi-sexual orientation, multi-music biases, multi-economical status. There is BTS and there is International Armies and together we can make the world a better place.
