BTS: 'Blue and Grey' MTV Unplugged Reaction

From what I understand V wrote this song for his mixtape and it was originally in English (he plays some of it on In the Soop) but the members really liked it and chose it to be on the album. The lyrics were then changed to Korean and the rappers wrote their own verses. He's said he wrote it when he was in a place suffering from burnout and maybe some depression. It's very emotional and personal and I love that he could share that with us.

The song was written by Taehyung in English and first was supposed to go onto his mixtape, but then turned out to be a group track:) the lyrics were translated and rapline wrote their verses. The track was co-produced by Tae's good friend, Nive, there is a video on KZbin where he talks about the recording process and how they chose different beats and instruments, quite fascinating! There is even a recording of a heartbeat instead of any instrument at some point🥺 As for the lyrics, Tae is known for "consulting his angels" to make different decisions and they're usually quite helpful:) but, as he said himself in one of the interviews, there was a point when the angels wouldn't come and it was the loneliest time for him. Glad he could reach catharsis and process his feelings through the song, i remember bawling my eyes out upon the first listen even before reading the lyrics

The rappers definitely wrote their own verses. They always do. Yoongi referred to the blue question mark that has plagued him since young (depression/anxiety) and Hobi commented on how he researched the grey rhino as an image to symbolise the heaviness that threatened to trample them down. V wrote the main melody and vocal parts.

The production for the PTD w/ their backs to the audience facing mirrors and their costumes is chefs kiss. Really pulls at the heart visually as the lyrics do here then it flows to Black Swan which deserves every award possible. It's almost criminal how under appreciated the 7 are as artists made even worse b/c those behind the scenes are even more shadowed while people doing less are getting the awards etc.

Whoever is coming for you guys because you're not sobbing your eyes out on camera can go leap off a cliff. Everyone reacts to songs in different ways at different times. Songs that make me teary don't always every time. Songs that make me happy and bouncy don't do it all the time either. People need to understand not everyone has the same emotions AT ANY TIME! As many have said and you can just remember this for ALL their songs: the rappers write their own sections. That's why the content maybe be the concept of the song but it will be said in HUGELY different ways. Take this song: Suga talked about his own battles with his anxiety and depression, Hobi worked with images that symbolize how blue and grey appears to him and RM went to his mental dictionary and pulled out poetic imagery as he usually does.

If you watched them from the beginning you can see how V was very cheerful back then. When this song was played in one of the episode of "In The Soop" i got so emotional because we all know how much he suffered through all these years, he lost many people in his life. It was hard for him in 2020 and he wrote this song to release all his feelings. Glad he overcame that and back to his cheerful self and happy V. I love all V self-written songs, hope you'll get into that. I have his songs as my lullabies.

I'm a Dynamite Army and I discovered them at one of the lowest points of my life. They brought joy at a time when I felt I had lost it for good. Couple of months later, when this song released, it broke me! I felt as if finally, someone put my feelings into words and was singing to me, empathising with me. I kept listening to song every morning before logging into work for about 2 months or so. It made me cry every time, though the intensity decreased with each passing day. Now, 7 months post its release, it brings me a unusual kind of peace - because I know somewhere in this world, someone understands how I feel. It's a beautiful song. If I wasn't in love with them already, this song just deepened my love and appreciation for them.

You find them exactly when you need them." 🙂 And I agree that this song shows their real understanding of how depression can feel. There's so many feelings involved that can be hard to put into words, especially if you're describing it to someone who hasn't experienced it. They put it so eloquently. It's beautiful. I don't think this song was about Covid at all, it was about Tae feeling burnt out from heavy schedules but it fit with the vibe of the album so well that the rest of the members wanted it to be included. Late 2019 everyone noticed a change in V, he was much quieter, solemn, and didnt interact like he used to. Many army's were concerned and even the members hinted at being worried about him. Eventually he came out and confirmed this, writing B&G must have played a big part of letting those emotions out because he seems much happier again 🥲

I 100% appreciate that your reactions are honest and heartfelt. There is nothing worse than watching a reactor that is clearly performing for the camera and probably not even that invested in BTS like true ARMY are. I understood what Erin was saying in the beginning about being a bit jealous of their situation because they were quarantining together. There are many people who are quarantining alone and I can't even imagine what it has been like for them. I also understand that at as performers, I think a lot of their self worth comes from being in front of a crowd and that's why this deeply affects them. I have concerns for them down the road when they are no longer in the spotlight but they will always have a deep bond with each other and they have so many talents besides their performances.
