Actually RM said he wrote his part about fellow members, his friends, about needing them in his life and fear of losing them. The chorus would therefore have been “I need you friend” but that didn’t sound right so they changed it to “I need you girl”. I always think that maybe that’s one reason why they put this BU content video with this song.
@ipurpleu16683 жыл бұрын
This isn't true. RM said that the MV would be better described as "I need you friend", not that the original lyrics were ever that. This is a common misunderstanding in the fandom.

hi there, the BU is actually not about Jin's consciousness, it is actually about the 7 of them, but Jin is the odd one out. If you look into the storyline in other MV's, notes and the webtoon it will explain the whole storyline for you. Tae's story is regarding his father and sister also, not his mother.

For BU explanation videos, xCeleste is the best one by far (the same person who did “This is BTS”) - but I’d definitely wait until you’ve watched all the video content at least, as it spoils a lot. And you’re right, the lyrics and the video should be analysed separately, I think - they’re not related. (I’ve also heard the lollipop represents a cigarette.) This is one of my favourite videos, their acting is incredible. This song got them their first ever music show win! Looking forward to you going deeper into the BU, it’s a lot and pretty confusing at times, but a really nice journey. When i watched the video & heard the song along with it i was also a bit confused as to if they r supposed to go together, but i interpreted it as them trying to throw us off, the song says i need u girl but what they actually need is eachother. And i think originally the song was called I Need U Friend but was changed bcoz it didn't feel right sonically. But the lyrics r also written with friendships in mind. So basically "girl" is a code word here lol for anyone you truly need ? Also the lollipop is supposed to be a cigarette bcoz of censorship. So u were right.

This is the first MV/start of the BTS Universe fictional storyline. IF the other two ladies want to jump down a rabbit hole of mind blown here is the order to watch the storyline. “I NEED U” MV is the first video officially in the BU. The other videos are, in order: “RUN” (Korean), “I NEED U” (Japanese), “RUN” (Japanese), “EPILOGUE : Young Forever”, all 7 WINGS short films, the LOVE YOURSELF highlight reels, “Euphoria”, “FAKE LOVE” (teasers and MV), “FAKE LOVE” (extended MV), “Epiphany” THEN after you are done watch the video by xCeleste BTS storyline summary.(Only after you watch all the videos) Goodluck trying solve the mystery of the BTS Universe Storyline lol. Tip: Pay attention to the details in every MV.

23:08 the song IS called “I need u,” lol I mentioned that it’s easy to see the intent bc since the chorus says “I need u girl,” every single time…. For me it’s a very clear message for the title of the song to just be “I need u.” Rm said the choice of “girl” was more sonically bc it felt like it needed something after I need u but other words they tried just didn’t fit with what they wanted except for I need u girl

You're right they can't show smoking on tv in South Korea hence why when RM drops the lollipop it's a cigarette. You're the first reactor I've seen actually figuring that out before being told about it. V killed his father because he was hitting his sister (not his mother). I really hope in the future BTS make another storyline based mv because their acting is great. It does bother me when people react to this video they think all the struggles the guys are facing in the mv is about a girl when it's obviously not. For this mv you kind of just have to separate the song from the mv. The channel xCeleste makes BU summary videos and they are excellent. She is ARMY and goes through all the BU content not just the mv's. I believe her most recent summary update was updated earlier this year. The video is called BTS STORYLINE SUMMARY + EXPLAINED | 2020 UPDATE.

No, they are not allowed to show smoking so he cannot have a lit cigarette in his hand. RM's dark side in this video is his addictions: the sugar, the coffee, and the cigarette. V has an alcoholic father who abuses him and his sister. He usually protects his sister & takes the beatings for her but his father attacked his sister while he was gone so he finally snaps and kills him. On Stage Prologue is the next video in the story (its a short film) and you will need to find a version with subs. It starts right where I Need U left off. XCeleste has a VERY good explanation, DKDKTV is good for explaining it from a Korean perspective, and the Webtoon "Save Me" really fills in the story... But I would watch/read those AFTER watching the whole BU so you don't encounter spoilers & get to make your own theories. 💜

RM wrote the "girl" part just to fit the song scheme. He said it made the song flow better. It's not really part of the song in a way. Since you aren't going into the BU yet I won't tell you if you are wrong or right. HYYH part one was the beginning of their "rise" in Korean charts. BTS won their first music award for I Need You. If you are starting the BU XCeleste has the most comprehensive explanation for all of the BU IMO. Bookish Theories does a great job of dissecting each music video.
@ipurpleu16683 жыл бұрын
This is a really big misconception in the fandom. RM never said that he changed the original lyrics, they had always been "I need you girl". The "I need you friend" thing came from RM describing the MV. He said that the MV would be better described as "I need you friend", nothing about changing the original lyrics of the song.
@ebony71773 жыл бұрын
@@ipurpleu1668 I didn't say he changed them ANYWHERE. I said it's not part of the song in a way because what he meant more was friend and not girl. So it has nothing to do with the meaning of the song.
@ipurpleu16683 жыл бұрын
@@ebony7177 That’s also not true though. The song was originally written as a love song, that is what Namjoon has always said. The whole song fits the Scenario of a romantic relationship. So “girl” wasn’t just added to make it flow, it was originally a part of the song. But he also said, you can apply it to other things as well, such as with friendships. When it comes to the BU, the songs rarely have to do with the storyline, usually only on the very broad theme of it. So yes, “girl” does have to do with the meaning of the song since it was written as a romantic song.
@ebony71773 жыл бұрын
@@ipurpleu1668 Where did he say it's completely about romantic love cause I just watched him say it's about desperate love or youth lost. This was when they were promoting the song on SBS. So "girl" wouldn't fit youth lost which goes back to that's why he said it was about the flow of the song. BTS has nebulous meanings to many of their songs.

@@ebony7177 lol you are just ignoring what I’m saying. I literally just said that. It was written as a love song (or desperate love) as you would like to say, but also has many other meanings. The whole album is based on Youth, so each song correlates with that theme.

I don’t care if bts sings about girls or not lol but a lot of army eeem triggered by it.. but I think knowing bts and that nothing is ever a mistake in their songs and content and choices are distinct is the title of the song. If it was simply a love song about a romantic relationship.. it would be titled “I need u girl,” bc it’s the chorus lol so for the song to only be titled “I need u,” I just think that sets a clear tone for the song in general and then with the video … once you go through the storyline and towards the end or once you’ve seen a lot more in what each storyline is about… then it’s easier to understand that this song is about them and not necessarily a simple love song , if that makes sense see some people have said that it’s not necessarily about a girl and mostly about rm from his live talking about the choice of the term “girl” considering the video has nothing to do with girls and I think from the video it’s easier to understand it is about their friendships and the importance of paying attention to your people bc not everybody can speak up when they need help… and it’s better to make the uncomfortable conversation happen instead of waiting for them to come to you and at least make yourself available. Lastly I’m not sure full telling of what it’s about before watching it kinda defeats the point f the reaction lol generally the music video first with a light description would be better Edit: Nevermind about talking about everything before… they seemed to grasp a lot more of it than people can typically so maybe that’s a good idea lol I hate when people get into this storyline before they even know their names bc it’s way too much and best to see a bit later. They’re not in jins consciousness here but I understand why you’re saying that and just getting ahead of yourself a bit but it’s okay. All the stories are happening… it’s just through jin do the stories start to work themselves out and stuff. Also with v that’s his sister… not his mama but you guys should keep going!!! On stage prologue next and it’s a fun video for the most part and it’s very interesting and has tons of cute moments.
