Rule of thumb with BTS - the funnier the song sounds, the more political and deep it is. It's always like this, if they are talking about some very serious issue they always disguise it with some funny choreography. Like Baepsae (Silver Spoon) for example, you already reacted to that one.

Fun fact when this song came out, BTS themselves were 'kids' or teenagers. So they're not being preachy or showing ageism, rather tried to put some sense into their peers. 😊

i feel like its IMPERATIVE that yall know that BTS themselves were teenagers in school/college when they wrote this!! This came out in 2013, so they arent being ageist or anything like that. They were writing about shit going on around them at that time. the first 2 albums they released were actually school themed, so thats where this song comes from

MCA has finally discovered the difference of BTS from other boy groups. That's 1 of the reasons why I and other Army are drawn to them bec of their lyrics but these are more evident in their Korean songs. Their English songs are intended to cheer up their fans so they are not as deep as their Korean songs. Since you've been diving into the BTS rabbit hole, I suggest you watch the introduction to BTS by XCeleste and another version by Ida S. There's also A Story of BTS by the Asian Theory. (Pls. check out the updated version). This is to give you a better understanding of who they are as artists and as individuals. Thank you for doing your reactions on BTS and exerting effort to understand the meaning of their songs.

I don't usually comment on KZbin vids but you guys are hilarious and remind me of myself! We have the exact same reactions to these BTS songs. 😂I'm what people would call a "baby ARMY" and I've resisted BTS for years thinking they just put out typical pop songs about love and living the high life, but boy was I so so very wrong! Finally gave them a shot when PTD came out since it's such a joyful song and here I am. I'm loving their music and I enjoy going through their discography. Spine Breaker is definitely one of my favorites, along with most of the songs of the Rap Line (Cyphers, Ddaeng, Agust D songs etc). There are also the usual suspects - Magic Shop, Mikrokosmos, Spring Day, etc. I find their old songs more enjoyable, but their more recent songs are still super good. Also liking how their songs are evolving since it shows their maturity as artists. Enjoy the BTS rabbit hole! 💜

As Christmas is getting closer there are more articles about how parents are doing what they can to secure presents for their kids. Spiderman toys and Gabby's Dollhouse and other hot trending toys paying 4x market price on eBay. It makes me wonder if it's the kids demands or the adults trying to impress their children? Spine breaker is a good song, BTS were thought to be the voice of the youth at their conception so the fact that they criticized how the older generation does things, but also turned around to the younger generation/peers to say they aren't perfect either is something. Everything has balance.

They always try to include a good story or a meaning in all of their songs. Some might say Butter Dynamite may not have a good meaning behind them but actually they do maybe not in the lyrics but the intention of it’s release. That’s one of the reasons they are so loved by ARMYs of all ages (I’m 40 myself and supporting them from the start). They started as an underdog in a small company that nobody heard of at the time,worked their butts off (still do) and earned everything they have today with hard work and sacrifices. Not only that-all their tracks have deep meaning and beautiful lyrics because they always make sure to write them based on their own experiences and even if someone else writes it for them (like Ed Sheeran) they still change it to make it personal. Mixing all types of music with deep lyrics. Adding incredible dance routines. And still staying grounded,humble and respectful towards their fans after they succeeded globally. You can’t help but becoming a fan 💜

Yes, they wear all high-end and luxury brands because they bought them themselves, they earned it with their own hard work. This song is not critiquing buying and wearing luxury items is about who's spine did you break to get them...
@sjm5750
@sjm5750 2 жыл бұрын
@@Dani.Torres no, they wear it because it’s sponsored by the company. BTS is a walking advertisement. I 💜 BTS and I’m an ARMY, but I can still separate the lyrics from what BTS are contracted to do by the company. It’s a contradiction on them, but hey- no one is perfect. I think Fear of God brand may be the only one that we see RM and Suga wear a lot that’s not sponsored. All high end brands: LV (latest), Gucci, Fila, Puma, etc.. it’s all to advertise and sell to their audience, young and old, but I think the young people are the main target. Based on interviews, JHope is really the only one into high end fashion.
@Dani.Torres
@Dani.Torres 2 жыл бұрын
@@sjm5750 Yes, I know that too, they are ambassador of all those brands they wear. BUT, they also buy, J-hope is big time brand consumer. SUGA as well if you see his studio tour. There's nothing wrong in expending the money you earned buying expensive things. Again, the song is not about that, it is about who's spine you break to get your things.
@sjm5750
@sjm5750 2 жыл бұрын
@@Dani.Torres I get it. I have no problem BTS spending their money how they want. They’ve earned it and it’s their money. The issue I have is they’re obligation to be “ambassadors” of the brands- because it’s what leads to the problem of spine breaker and they know it.
@Dani.Torres
@Dani.Torres 2 жыл бұрын
@@sjm5750 I understand what you mean, but I still think that they wearing luxury brands is NOT an issue regarding the theme of the song. They can still sing it in their LV outfits, because they got them themselves as part of their job. It's actually telling young people "you want these things? Work for it! It's not your parents obligation". Even though the song was written when they were very young, it is still relevant to their current status.

The "dirty clothes" frase is something I didn't catch, something like "blood diamonds". And yes they explaine it from the Koreans pov, being from there, and familiar with that society, but we know that it's not happening just in S. Korea. So yes, it's really shameful to spend like that money your parents work really hard for, Spine breaker is a good saying. But how do we shame those who buy the same ridiculous stuff with money they parents don't really work that hard? Still, they all buy the same cars, the same fashion, the same hair cut

When you watch the documentaries, you'll know that their CEO, Hitman Bang, want a group that youth can relate to. In fact, not only youth, but also the older people can relate to their messages. The song itself also a bop. So if you don't want to go deep to the lyrics, it's all fine. Everyone has their own way to appreciate BTS. ♡ +Ah.. Did you watch the Baepsae explanation? It's also deep. I mean, I like those songs too, but I think it’s hella notable that their songs don’t tell me as a woman to “lean over and touch my toes” etc. BTS rose past everyone and didn’t do it with videos of half naked girls fawning all over them in a swimming pool of champagne, lol. I truly believe that is what makes them so popular. They have very catchy tunes but they put meaning behind their lyrics. The song may have a great rythm or a slow beat but the meaning behind the song may be totally different that the beat of the song. They talk about bullying, depression, loving yourself, not hurting your parents, living a good social lifestyle, so many things that it begs you to look at the meaning of songs that you can not understand the language to, but are willing to look it up because who knows what BTS is talking about today. Their songs are not empty fluff to please the industry, they have meaning (although you frequently need to watch the explanation videos to understand the cultural references and symbolism they use). The fact that they send meaningful messages, stand for important issues, and can speak out against the ills of society, makes BTS stand far above the rest of kpop. So even if you think you are understanding what you are listening to/watching, if there is an explanation video, please watch it. You may be surprised what you are missing.

BTS music and music videos has always had a message. From their first song, No more dream to their recent album BE. Their earlier songs spoke about societal pressures and injustices for the younger generation. It moved to more psychological references such as Herman Hesse and Carl Jung. I actually read an article about the North Face-Padded-Jacket problem in South Korea when it happened. The thing was, there was a hierarchy to the jackets themselves. Normal students were only allowed to wear normal-grade North Face jackets while bullies or popular students were the ones who had "the right" to wear top-tier jackets. And if they didn't have the means to buy one, they'll get their lackeys to steal one from someone else. So students who had the good quality jackets were sometimes beaten up and robbed of their jackets if they were considered "not popular" and "didn't have the right" to wear these jackets. And students who didn't have a North Face jacket was instantly bullied because everyone would know their family were poor. It was really messed up. V said that when he went to school, his mother worked her ass off to get him a North Face jacket because she didn't want her son to be bullied. However, when he wore it to school, he was laughed at anyways because the North Face jacket had actually phased out by that time and was no longer popular. So he said he wore it ONCE, on the first day, and never wore it again. However, he felt really bad and guilty because he knew his mother worked really really hard to get it for him. I guess it still haunts him to this day and that's probably why they wrote the song.

You should also react to Baepsae explained. That song has cool beats but again another strong message for the society. BTS always has that one song if not more in every album hat criticizes the society structure or says something very meaningful.

I really appreciate that you guys watch vids to understand the lyrics-- one of things i love abt BTS music is they manage to have a good msg or deep meanings to the lyrics but the melody and the beat is catchy. BTS lyricism is great.

It's BTS's USP(Unique Song Presentation) that they always manage to put meaningful lyrics to killer beats making it totally difficult if to focus on the lyrics or just enjoy the beats😆😍💜

This song is so good. When I was in high school (same time as suga) wearing a North Face jacket was a popular kid thing(even in the US). and I could NOT afford it. I ended up buying one at a thrift store with my own money and I swear I wear that shit to this day. Lol

It's a really good song. In all their albums they have at least 1 song that has social commentary. Hahaha legends. Ps. That is the power of Bangtan. They give you a banger with a lesson wrapped within.

That's observant of you; BTS does manage to write meaningful lyrics and include important messages in their songs, instead of sex, drugs, etc. They have a moral, and provide insight into social problems.

Actually I agree with you guys when you said that you have only heard songs talking about drugs,sex etc. And the thing which attracted me towards bts was how they are different and the lyrics are just next level Even if one does not understand the lyrics one can feel refreshed just by watching them perform. The year 2020 was not very good to me and my mental health but I am thankful to bts who without knowing helped me so much

BTS saying this is wonderful because pop songs rarely have deep meaning but I was, sadly, one of those kids. I grew up very poor and was so ashamed of my Walmart jeans when my classmates had like $70 Abercrombie jeans, but as an adult I understand ENTIRELY. My father worked 7 days a week to keep us from homelessness (and we still did end up it for a little while) and I should have appreciated my $15 Walmart pants and not pouted about it.

Yes! MCA that's it! That's BTS songs in a nutshell. There should be a warning attached to it like "Enjoy the music. Beware the lyrics." Can so relate because this is my same journey. Jammin to Mic Drop the first day then crying about Spring Day next. And it gets worst. LOL. Once you delve deeper and know that the choreo, video or stage prod and music composition serve all to emphasize/amplify the message of the song then you know that's when you're done for. Am a happy dead zombie ARMY though. LOL. No regrets here.
