Suga covers his depression, OCD and anxiety ... Every single word and every single sentence in this song says something that most of us ignore because some don't understand it.... The "battle" he says is about his depression that he's been through and you can just feel it in the way he raps with his emotions... This song has touched a lot of ppl with how open Yoongi was about his feelings of himself. A lot of artist don't sing or rap openly about their own feeling of what they are going through... That's why bts is so special they hit you with the deep feels and everyday emotions that ppl try to hide and they are trying to tell everyone its okay to be human its okay to feel this way and you are loved and you should love yourself no matter what!!

You’re so right. Just the first verse alone, “On the other side of the famous rapper, stands my weak self.” His honesty triggered something deep within me. I used to think Suga was cold and that his name was a oxymoron because he was portrayed as a savage (which if we are truly honest...Jimin is the most savage of the group😂😂😂) but this particular song made me see Min Yoongi the person behind the persona of Agust D or Suga. Him speaking about things that we are too afraid to say out loud made me stan BTS hard. Because it takes guts to say that you are flawed and full of fears but you’re fighting to overcome them.

The concert that he's talking about was in 2015 in Japan, he couldn't perform because he was in a middle of a panic attack in the bathroom, the same day Taehyung had to be hospitalized, so, only five members were able to perform. They did a couple of songs but they couldn't keep performing because they were really anguished, so, the concert was canceled, there's a video of that day on KZbin, the fans were crying, the members of bts were crying, it was a complete disaster. That's why nowadays they always say "I need to be strong, because if I fall my members will fall as well"

There are songs that can be considered to be generic in a sense everybody can listen and either like or dislike. Songs with generic concepts of living in this world, heart getting broken... etc. With Suga/ AgustD you HAVE to understand his past to be able to fully appreciate greatness of this track. Many people agreed this must be his most personal song to date - he is a great story teller and in this track he is letting us in on his life. I cant get over how direct, unapologetically honest and courageous he must be as a human being to be able to do that. Many Koreans mentioned that structure and wording of this song basically reads as Suga’s suicide note. He speaks about real event of his life in it - about onset of depression and social phobia when he was a teenager; about incidents of self-harm; about his shoulder being destroyed during his delivery gig ( his income earning side job) when he was a trainee under BigHit; about an incident before their concert in Kobe ( Japan) when Tae was sick and then Yoongi suffered an acute episode of full blown panic attack ( when he locked himself in a bathroom - as mentioned in this song) and they needed to cancel the whole thing.... man, this song is no easy listening and I witnessed grown up ass men crumbling down and sobbing while listening to it ( mostly Korean men). A masterpiece. Not something you can listen to on daily bases but its a song that stays with you. The ending is not monster taking over, the ending is Min Yoongi winning over his shadows and monster, its him saying he is ok and acceptable of his past, that he can finally see his Idol status as something prideful... it is his will to live winning over his destructive tendencies.

Yes, thank you for saying it so well. I cry every time I listen to this one. It's so special, personal, and raw. It's why Min Yoongi will always be my ultimate bias. His songs are often the most direct, the most emotional, and the ones that reach deep inside you and pull out those emotions you've tried to hide.

He was 17 when he left his hometown and went to Seoul alone to join the company. He was a trainee for 3 years while he also had two jobs, in one of them (as a delivery) he had a car accident and he hurt really bad his left shoulder, he didn't tell anyone bc he was afraid the company would fire him, that's why his wound didn't heal properly. And for me more than two parts of him his just him telling his story and how he overcome what happened to him. When he talks about giving his childhood as a collateral for what he has now (he has a pretty rough childhood, he was really poor) and how now he identify himself as an idol, something that he struggled with bc the environment he's from. He's talking about how he's in the top now and he's okay with his life.

Hi Alex & Allen, Thanks for this reaction. The explanation of this track is going to be quite long but I don't want to omit anything because Yoongi gives himself a lot in this text (as in the whole 1st mixtape, we feel more appeasement in the 2nd) and the subject is so important that it can help a lot of people... Ok here we go: “The Last” Is the seventh song of Agust D (aka Daegu Town Suga)’s self-titled mix tape. With lyrics like “Depression, OCD; They keep coming back again from time to time”, it’s one of the most personal, emotional songs of the EP. In South Korea, there is stigma around mental illness, meaning many people refrain from seeking treatment and help, and the topic is rarely ever discussed. This song is therefore revolutionary in itself as Agust D, a well known artist, opens up about his struggles with depression and anxiety, which in turn may help in changing the stigmatized view of mental illness in South Korea. Let's go to the lyrics: ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FAMOUS IDOL RAPPER STANDS MY WEAK SELF, IT’S A BIT DANGEROUS Yoongi is famous for his being a somewhat hardcore rapper, in the idol sensation BTS. However, he basically says this is a facade, beneath which is his weak self that holds dangerous thoughts (depression and OCD). Though rarely, he and RM touch on this subject, and it is a common topic within their music. DEPRESSION, OCD THEY KEEP COMING BACK AGAIN FROM TIME TO TIME HELL NO PERHAPS THAT MIGHT BE MY TRUE SELF His “weak self” brought on by depression and OCD comes and goes; he has good days and bad days. However, the bad days have started to become frequent to the point where he sees his “true self” as the person he is when he’s at his lowest. AROUND THE AGE OF 18, I DEVELOPED SOCIAL ANXIETY RIGHT, THAT WAS WHEN MY MIND WAS GRADUALLY POLLUTED During the seventh episode of BTS’s docu-drama Burn The Stage (2018), Yoongi states: “When i’m out doing casual stuff, I still feel anxious about crowds." In an interview with Naver on the same year, the artist shares: “Anxiety and loneliness seem to be with me for life. I put a lot of meaning on how I would work it out, but it seems like I have to study it for my entire like. Emotions are so different in every situation and every moment, so I think to agonize every moment is what life is. By the lyrics [from The Last], I wanted to tell people: ‘I am anxious, so are you, so let’s find the way and study the way together.’" MIN YOONGI IS DEAD ALREADY (I KILLED HIM) Yoongi once again raps about his need to cope with his various anxieties (e.g. socially, as an idol) by killing off a part of himself, just as he does on 140503: “I always prepare two masks Hiding my true self Behind the defensive image I thoroughly hide myself As if I’m a criminal” Juggling between the identity of a public artist and a private person is the central source of conflict throughout Yoongi’s 2016 mixtape, and, interestingly, is still a major theme in BTS’s more recent music (e.g. Idol). COMPARING MY DEAD PASSION WITH OTHERS IT’S NOW A PART OF MY DAILY LIFE As found in other songs, like Seesaw, Yoongi has a problem with comparing himself to others and believes that his own abilities sometimes do not match others’. THE DOCTOR ASKS ME IF I'VE (CENSORED) I ANSWERED WITHOUT ANY HESITATION THAT I HAVE While the part is censored out with a beep in the song, the lyrics are likely about the doctor asking Yoongi if he’s ever tried to kill himself or self-harm. It’s a question any doctor would ask a patient who has depression, but because talking about suicide in Korea is so taboo - not to mention hard for a person who has been suicidal to mention, even in a song - the words are censored out. However, Yoongi challenges the stigma by announcing “without any hesitation” that he has self harmed and/or survived a suicide attempt. HABITUAL SAYING UH I DON’T GIVE A SHIT I DON’T GIVE A FUCK ALL THOSE WORDS UH THOSE WORDS ARE SAID TO HIDE MY WEAK SELF Yoongi is known for his hard, “I-don’t-care” persona as Suga. However, here is saying that these’re crutches that he uses as an attempt to overcome his fears and bad thoughts. RIGHT, THAT PERFORMANCE DAY WHICH I DON’T REMEMBER VERY WELL THE DAY I CONFRONTED MYSELF WHEN I HID INSIDE THE BATHROOM BECAUSE I WAS SCARED OF PEOPLE There was an incident in Kobe, Japan where Suga couldn’t perform due to injuries. He allegedly had a serious panic attack and felt serious guilt for not being able to perform. THAT TIME I, THAT TIME I I THOUGHT SUCCESS WOULD MAKE EVERYTHING FINE BUT YOU SEE, BUT YOU SEE AS TIME GOES BY, I FEEL LIKE I’M TURNING INTO A MONSTER Yoongi thought that being successful would smooth out his problems, yet now he feels more out of control and dangerous, like he’s a monster. BTS is the most successful Korean band ever, with features in numerous magazines and shows. I’VE EXCHANGED MY YOUTH FOR SUCCESS “Youth” is a concept heavily covered by BTS. Suga believes that he exchanged being young and free when he became a successful rapper and this may have affected his health. AND THAT MONSTER DEMANDS FOR MORE WEALTH The aforementioned monster from the previous lines is controlled by greed for wealth, and even though he’s gotten successful, it wants more. AT TIMES IT PUTS A COLLAR ON MY NECK TO RUIN AND SWALLOW ME WITH GREED A collar is used as a sign of ownership and control. It can also be used to choke or suffocate something if it strays too far. Therefore, Yoongi is stating that greed at times controlled and even suffocated him. SOME TRY TO SHUT MY MOUTH AND SAY I SHOULD SWALLOW THIS FORBIDDEN FRUIT I DON’T WANT IT THEY WANT ME TO LEAVE THIS GARDEN Suga is explaining that people are telling him to be grateful for his success, yet he isn’t . He has regret for wasting his youth striving for fame and feels greedy. SHIT SHIT I GOT IT SO STOP IT I’M THE ROOT OF ALL THIS SO I’LL STOP MYSELF He understands all of these things that are affecting him, and says simplistically that he must stop it. This is a device used to emphasize how he feels like it should be easy to control, especially since he’s the core of it. However, it gives the impression - especially through other lyrics - that it is actually very hard. Go to the next comment for the rest:

He was born in '93 and I believe he signed with BigHit in 2010, so he would be 17 in international age? And he's probably using Korean age when he says 18, which adds at least a year to your international age, so it would be about the same time, but I'm pretty sure he's indicated that he struggled with depression before being part of BTS.

The concert he is saying when he hid in the bathroom because he was afraid of the people was in Tokyo Dome (if I remember correctly). After the concert, he went back to the empty venue and walked around thinking what the fans must have felt. He contemplated a lot and I believe that helped him face his own demons. Show Me the Money - some people were asking him to join the show, but Yoongi never did. So people were saying that maybe he was afraid or that he can't because he was not confident enough. Yoongi is saying in the song that he did not join because he did not want to. It's like saying he did not have anything to prove so why join? Later on, it was revealed that some of the results of the show were manipulated (I read this somewhere). AX hall - the first concert they staged where there were 2000 people in attendance.

This is from his first mixtape, AgustD, released 4 years ago. He's in a healthier place now as he's grown, but still speaks about these difficulties we all deal with things as people, himself included. Mental health a very important issue to him. In Map of the Soul: 7, "Shadow" continues to look at the contrast between the success and the fear and the "real" self. (Of course you know this as you've already reacted to it)

The song is actually about acceptance. He wrote this song if im not mistaken based on the emotions he felt after he wasnt able to perform at the kobe show in japan. It is when he was able to understand that he hid some parts of himself inorder to be thay person who can achieve his dreams. This is like his confession that he has gone thru depression, social phobia and even has thoughts of suicide back then. But he has to shut those all out and be the person who is perfect and flawless that everyone wants him to be thus saying feeding the monster. But later on he realized that he needs to confront those emotions he hid and accept who he has become and accept the fact that alot of people love him for who he is, despite and inspite of what he can and cant do. That day when he wsnt able to perform, made him feel how blessed he is and he realized how many loved him. He begins to accept that he can have this success without trying to hide his real thoughts. He can be loved even though he shows weaknesses and imperfections. This is the thing he spoke about in his song Shadow. Its an acceptance that the brighter the lights are, the longer the shadow is but that shadow is still a part of who he is. This is when he was able to breakdown those barriers of selfdoubt. He had come to accept that he is a person, not perfect, not always strong, but he knows he is blessed and that he is thriving, with the help of the people who loves him. You can read his letter back in Jan 2016 to Army addressing that Kobe show and what his thoughts were. I was just guessing it was that time he wrote this song too. Thank you for reacting to this great song.💜💜💜

My interpretation of the song is that the entire song is his inner dialogue with the monster within him (the voice inside himself that keeps trying to drag him further into depression and that doubts his life choices such as choosing to be an idol over the underground scene) and right before the break in the middle of the song he confronts that voice directly for the first time in the song as a way to stop letting it control him and instead take control of it himself. He then talks about his achievements and how he overcame trauma to achieve them, proving to the monster that no matter what he won in the end and he’s going to keep winning so the monster has no validity anymore bc he can clearly see his goals within reach and he knows how to get them and he’s now in control of the monster. The song essentially seems like a fight between the inner him that wants to get better and live the dreams he’s always had versus the inner him that wants him to plunge into darkness and lose everything he’s so far built.

I feel Suga is saying while depression, anxiety and insecurity are inextricable aspects of his being, having even thought of suicide many times as he told the psychiatrist he was taken to in the sadly untranslated section after the bleep, it is not necessarily a game killer. Indeed he says emotions like these are bona fides of any successful rapper. (I would add which he is too classy to say, not just talking about partying and banging ho's) He tells listeners who may be ready to give up or even commit suicide, which is a major issue amongst South Korean youth, that he tasted shit so much in his life. Now he has achieved a position where the shit he tasted function as driving memories. Basically his history of miseries and openness have given him the street cred to talk to emotionally fragile youth. You can rise above the pain. I can tell you that because I went through it. This song is contextualized by other Agust D mixtape songs such as Give it to Me, Agust D and Tony Montana. He swims in a panoply of emotions which effectively supplant his depressive tendencies. He senses based on his own personal grit and creative expression he is on his way to being a king. By the time we get Daechwita and he clearly has achieved his dreams, we get a whole new set of emotions. But that is another story.

It’s like a dial: he powers through anxiety and depression to the opposite side of the dial to feeling all powerful and that emotional high that comes with fame. He recognizes that is a mindset he said he would not be in, so is wanting to dial it back to a middle ground. This is healing 101. Just to be clear, all this is what I heard or read from other people, it might NOT be true but, I wanted to say it xd...don't want to offend anyone Show Me The Money- Its a way for people (rappers?)to get popular really quick, but he decided that he didnt want to do it, but people still critized him for that. Beep- Was when the doctor asked him if he ever think about suicide or killing himself, and Yoongi say that yes, he has. Sleep on the floor of the Bathroom- I read somewhere that this means that he was trying or it was an attempt of suicide or kill himself...I am not saying that it happend but this phrase has that meaning in some places. Accident- He was in a car accident during his part time job. He didn't tell anyone in the company because he was afraid that he was going to be fired. Because of this injury he can't lift his arm high during choreographies or anytime he wants and it has healed incorrectly. He has mentioned in different times that he sometimes feels pain there. Finally after many years he is getting the surgery that he needs and getting treated the right way. There are a lot more of his problems like his predebut struggles, social phobia, depression, etc...

This song made me ARMY. It was randomly recommended to me on YT back in 2017 during summer break, I listened to it for a whole three months and I always felt really sad each time it played in my playlist; I didn't even know the artist or even the back story of the lyrics. THE LAST was my first exposure to the world of BTS ♥

In my opinion he is always Min Yoon-gi because in the 9th verse he said: My pride which I thought I had given away Has turned into self-respect My fans, keep your head high with pride Because who can do it like me uh For me the monster is not overshadowing anymore, he now know his worth and he is respecting himself and telling us fans to do the same. So for what I conclude is he likes the person he is now, he is working on his struggles but he is not in that dark zone anymore, its doesnt mean it doesnt exist but he is not giving to much attention and trying to move on and progress. Also mental health is kind of tabu in Korea so for him to talk about that in a song was very important for us and Im sure for him too. He wants to help and heal people who has the same struggles. He is indeed a great man, im glad he is feeling a lot happier now.

IF MY MISFORTUNE IS YOUR HAPPINESS I’LL HAPPILY STAY UNFORTUNATE IF I’M THE FIGURE OF HATE I’LL GET ON THE GUILLOTINE Suga has expressed multiple times that he is a people-pleaser, which he also expresses here. If what he is doing makes himself unhappy but brings joy to others, he will keep suffering to please others. THE NIGHT WHEN I PERFORMED IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE OF 2 NOW TOKYO DOME IS RIGHT IN FRONT MY NOSE MY ONE AND ONLY LIFE He started performing in front of only two people, and now says that Tokyo Dome, an infamous stadium with the capacity of 55,000, is in front of him. MY FAN MY HOMMIE MY FAM I HOPE YOU DON’T WORRY BECAUSE I’M REALLY OKAY NOW DAMN A lot of the lyrics in this song talk about his struggles with mental illness, but here he’s saying he hopes his fans and family don’t worry about him because he feels better now that he’s achieved so much, even if fame still brings problems. I’VE DENIED MY NATURE MANY TIMES As referenced in the latter line, Yoongi was ashamed of his idol role. Rappers in many idol groups are dogged for their bad skills and lack of life experience. Since this was the case, he denied who he was. It could also refer to how he denied that he wanted success because of the way people dragged him or he denied his mental problems due to cultural standards. MY ADDRESS IS IDOL AND I WON’T DENY the title ‘idol’ may have negative reputation. Rappers, creators and musicians in genral often get hate or critisizm for having that title. As an underground rapper in korea, Yoongi was made fun of because of the fact that he is under a company and in a group and has that title. For example, an interviewer said to him he became girls icon. In this line he says he no longer cares about this ‘idol’ title anymore and what people may say about him for that. he won’t deny the fact that he is an idol. THERE’S NO ANSWER AT THE END OF WANDERING This line likely means that instead of embracing something that comes with negative clout, people aimlessly explore other options. However, instead of wandering about, Yoongi has accepted himself and his role. MY PRIDE WHICH I THOUGHT I HAD GIVEN AWAY HAS TURNED INTO SELF-RESPECT Pride can be positive and negative. The negative one, likely referred to here, is often referred to as “ego.” He says he had to strip himself of pride, especially his assured ego. However, now he’s developed a positive respect for himself. According to CQL, ”respect means to demonstrate “high regard” for or special attention to something or someone.” As opposed to pride, which can mean, ”the belief that you are better or more important than other people.” MY FANS, KEEP YOUR HEAD HIGH WITH PRIDE BECAUSE WHO CAN DO IT LIKE ME UH He’s telling their fans that they should remain self-respecting like he has. He referenced himself, which is probably because many fans look up to him and even copy or borrow from his moves and rapping. SEIKO, ROLEX, AX HALL AND GYMNASTIC STADIUM Seiko and Rolex are both jewelry brands. Seiko is significantly less expensive than Rolex, which are often loaded with diamonds and cost thousands of dollars. AX Hall and Gymnastic Stadium are both performance stadiums. AX Hall has almost 1/10 the capacity of Gymnastic Stadium, both Korean. He’s comparing where they started vs where they now are (when the song was released). THE HEADS OF THOUSANDS NODDING TO MY HAND GESTURE Though oftentimes rappers move their hands up and down with the beat to inspire the crowd, Yoongi has another gesture that also inspires fans According to Kdramabuzz, this sign is called Emeka and has a symbolic meaning. SHOW ME THE MONEY IT’S NOT THAT I COULDN’T BUT I DIDN’T SHIT Suga was often criticized for choosing not to appear on “Show me the money” which is a Korean show where rappers compete and showcase their skills. He clarified why he chose not to appear in the show by saying that it’s not that he couldn’t he didn’t, meaning he could’ve gone on the show if he wanted but he felt it was unnecessary to try and prove his rapping skills to others based off a show. SELLING OURSELVES OR NOT YOU ALL SAY WE COULDN’T DO IT BUT WE DIDN’T SHIT Many claim that Korean idols are sellouts that don’t deserve their fame. However, BTS never thought of themselves that way and they could indeed do what they said despite these people’s claims, according to these lyrics. THE ROOT OF MY CREATIVITY HAS TASTED THE SWEET, BITTER, AND SHIT OF THIS WORLD The root of his creativity is likely his mind and experiences, which have experienced a range of things that girl his rapping. It also is a clever reference to teeth, which are used to chew (and give to the tongue to taste) food. Teeth have roots that are their nerves. THOSE DAYS WHEN I TRIED TO SLEEP ON THE TOILET FLOOR A lot of people have suggested that it’s Yoongi’s more poetic way of referring to when he tried to kill himself (sleep; see below as to why he wouldn’t say this outright) The beep after a previous lyric {The doctor asked me if I’ve..} is to censor the questions most psychiatrists typically ask their patients: have you self-harmed or attempted suicide? This subject is taboo in Korea and has ruined careers by bringing it up. MY SHOULDER WHICH SHATTERED While a trainee, Yoongi began working as a newspaper delivery boy however, one day while delivering papers, he was stuck by a car and permanently damaged his shoulder. THE DEBUT WHICH I CLUNG AS IF IT WAS MY LIFE A debut is an introduction of an idol. Therefore, he’s saying that he clung to this important event as if it was his life so that he would succeed and be famous. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU’RE FOOLING He could be referring to Yoongi or to other rappers SELLING OURSELVES OR NOT YOU ALL SAY IT'S NOT THAT WE COULDN’T DO IT BUT THAT WE DIDN’T WANT TO, SHIT When BTS first started many of them had other opportunities to “quick fame”. Many of the vocalists were scouted by big companies, the dancers were set to be professionals, and the rappers (including yoongi) were making a name for themselves in the underground rap world. None of them took those opportunities though and stayed with BTS because they wanted to make content they were proud of and Bighit gave them that freedom. Even if this meant having to work harder than most. Many rappers say that Yoongi and RM “sold themselves out” because they “couldn’t resist the temptation” of being idols instead of working their way to the top in the rap world. Here Yoongi is saying it’s not that we couldn’t have each become famous from these opportunities. It’s that we didn’t want to.

He was 18 when he did Bighit audition in 2010. He got in for 3 years of training and BTS debut in june 2013. We also have to keep in mind that Yoongi wanted to be a producer not an Idol (so of course he wasn't expecting to be in front of that amount of fans). I agree that it's like a conversation with himself. I don't know if it's about Suga v.s his greedy monster but I do know that Yoongi thrives to evolve/better himself (and I do think that Daechwita is the return of Min Yoongi who integrates all the parts of himself Min Yooongi/Suga/Agust D and the monster who is the king they are all finally one) . I think that in 2016 when D1 was released Yoongi was feeling better compare to when Bts begin. At the beginning Bts was supposed to be just Hiphop. I also think that the change of direction for what would be Bts was hard on a young Yoongi who was trying to find/ define himself and his image. The clash with the cute idol image v.s a manly underground rapper was probably a big clash for him. I don't know if you know about idol culture and the way they train Idol in South Korea but I can understand why he was feeling that way. I think that this song is about to let it all out not just for Army but also for himself. I would like to have a conversation with Min Yoongi because all his lyrics seems to have multiple layers that just him could explain but the nice thing is that a lot of person can relate to him, his music and his lyrics. (sorry for my bad english french is my main idiom). I want to say that I'm happy that you finally reacted to this one, a more consistant Agust D stuff. Yoongi is a deep guy and he deserves to be acknowledge for his raw courage of showing vulnerability and talking about mental healt, these are really taboo subjects especially for rappers.

this entire song has me so emotional every time i listen to it, but also when yoongi speaks to army directly by telling us that he's okay now; i honestly thank god for that line because i don't know what i would do without yoongi, as cliche as that sounds; he's helped me and so many other people through things that i was concealing because other artist i listened to before BTS were not as open about mental health as bts or yoongi. This is yet another reason why BTS are so huge right now and doing so well, and rightly so, for themselves; they don't pretend they're just "celebrities" but rather acknowledge that they are human just like everyone else and that they experience emotions too. so immensely grateful for BTS (sorry i went on a little rant there, i think i just admire BTS too much haha; thank you for coming to my ted talk haha)

Oh I relate to this song so hard tho I cannot imagine batteling all that while chasing sucha difficult career. This thing is, once you get depression and other mental issues, you are your own worst enemy every day, every hour and every minute..and to stay alive you gotta fight your own instict to give up and die. Suga basically admitted to having many mental issues, but also to mostly overcoming most and embracing the rest. This isng to me is a song of success, fo not only reaching your dreams, but overcoming your own demons and becoming a better version of yourself.

Suga's parents didn't support his pursue of music before. The only one that believes him is his older brother. Suga went to Seoul for music and he lived alone. His parents couldn't afford to support him in college so Suga worked part time. He participated in a rap competition held by bang si-hyuk, the man behind bighit agency. Suga won 2nd place and was invited to be a bts member . So Suga worked part time, usually arrives late in school and train as a trainee in bighit. He mentioned in one of his songs that in school, all he ended up doing is sleeping because he was so tired everyday. It was during his delivery part time when he got into an accident. He hid it from the agency and the members. He even lied and said that he just fell down the stairs to Jimin. He only told the truth later after years on burn the stage series. He hid the shoulder injury from the company because he's afraid he will be kicked out. Eventually that company found out and paid for his hospital bills and college tuition saying that they'll give Suga another chance. This is why Suga's shoulder never healed right. Suga has been carrying his pain on shoulder for 8 years and the dance choreography of bts songs are no joke and yet you won't notice that he's hurting because he looks natural in dancing. He is so good at hiding his feelings and pain

this song is about duga0s struggle with depression, OCD and social phobia that has plagued him between the time he left his hometown to pursue his dream in Seoul and the anguish he’s felt about selling out. Unusually frank for Korea, where suicide is prevalent and mental health care faces extreme stigma, he tells how he seeked psychiatric help and how he came to terms with the fact that he is in fact an idol and part of the mainstream pop industry. (if you notice the part where he sang "the doctor asked me ****" that part is censored because he was probably talking about suicide). also he joined bts when he was about 18, and that's when his mental health started to suffer from the pressure of fame and being an idol trainee.

Either than depression and social phobia, Suga also touched on his struggle with identifying as an idol or a rapper. An idol is often dismissed as not true artist, as merely a "celebrity" An idol rapper is thought of even worse (that they rap because they can't sing). This song is like he started in a dark place, left it, then came back with he had accepted himself and his status as an idol.

Context behind the line "my adress is idol, i won't be corrupted"- He originally was supposed to act as behind the scene stuff aka producer/composer/songwriter for the new group. But later he joindd the group as a member, since he was an underground rapper and most of his " friends" with the same interest (aka hiphop and music ig) is from that scene too, they mocked and pretty much rejected him for becoming an "idol rapper". So, for a time he stuggled with his identity as a hiphop artist and an idol. In this song, he declares that he isn’t ashamed of being an idol and he proudly embraces the identity.

This song definitely has a lot to unpack that you just learn over time. Kinda don’t wanna repeat what everyone is saying in the comments but will just touch on a few topics. I think you guys already saw the video of when they were first starting as the group BTS & met up with some other “rappers” that said they felt that Namjoon & Yoongi were sell outs for joining a kpop group & even called them girls for wearing idol makeup. Their group was looked down a lot by other groups & companies because they came from a small company so things like not having their own dressing room when they would go to shows & having to improvise where to get ready, being cut completely from shows, not being considered worthy to have the end time slots of award shows because other “popular” groups always held those time slots. There was also a concert in Japan they had to cancel the day of because Taehyung was sick & Yoongi’s social phobia was so bad he couldn’t go on stage. The other 5 members went on stage & only performed a couple songs & apologized to the audience because they had to stop the concert. Yoongi ended up writing a long letter explaining what happened that night & said he even went back to Japan to walk around the venue & try to picture what it must have felt like from the fan’s perspective. He even has mentioned in the documentary on YT that when ppl crowd them when they’re at airports, etc it makes him really uncomfortable. He injured his shoulder while delivering food as a side job when he was training to be in BTS. He got hit by a car & dislocated his shoulder but he didn’t tell anyone at his company out of fear that they would let him go. So he suffered for awhile before he finally told them & the company said they wished he told them sooner so they could’ve helped him. So the company actually paid for his tuition so he wouldn’t have to keep delivering food. He recently had surgery on it cuz it kept bothering him over the years & even tried physical therapy to help with the pain but during the MOTS one concert, he wasn’t able to move his arm in the beginning of Day 2 so that’s probably what finally convinced him that it was time for him to get the surgery done. Especially cuz he will be joining the military for enlistment soon too.

There's a lot to breakdown in the lyrics but first as I always say whenever anyone even touches on RM's first mixtape its same suga's this was 4 years ago his mental state is different now bts are quite open about it and they don't shy away from their emotions. Whatever he rapped about in the last is true it gives a lot of us who suffer through depression anxiety etc comfort knowing he can talk about it so can we and the song does change at its end as alex said the "monster" I really like that cuz suga himself still talks about how he's scared of his greed but as bts always talk about shadows its something you can't get rid of you just have to accept it. Also the line "I could do 'show me the money' but I wouldn't let myself do that" is basically him saying he could rap like popular rappers who rap about money and drugs but he wanted to tell his story and although he struggled to reach where he is he wouldn't do it the other way. BTS song 'Sea' a hidden track has this line "where there is hope, there are trials" it was not easy for anyone. He does say in the end he is proud of where he is its an emotional track its raw but it is what it is and how it was supposed to be. But yoongi's story we cannot tell what's right and what's wrong but thats the beauty of music after all

Like others already said about the accident is true. Also Yoongi's depression was real. V also had a periodel that he was depressed. Suga and V where not at a concert because, of both were depressed. I'm happy that they are okay now. Maybe if you have time you can listen on SoundCloud (it's free) to the mixtapes of Suga, RM, JHope. You'll het surprised. BTS has done so much in a lot of different way. In your way of discovering BTS you'll notice that each member is unique also they are very versityl. Take your time. By the way BTS and Jennifer Lopez Both received an award from WSJ. Magazine's 10th Annual Innovator Awards for 2020. So Congrats BTS. Maybe you can react to Paradise from BTS. Succes. 💜🍀🇳🇱🌷

Actually only suga had a panic attack not v. V had so stomach problems, I think. V has opened upon that he has go through depression ( not as harmful as suga's) lately, but I can see that he is matured, I have noticed with people who used to be childish, mature they go through that phase where we feel confused about what is happening, also those who know us constantly asking ' are u ok, you changed' like that. It is quite irritating and also pressurizing when people ask that and also v is a public figure so when we army say to him 'you have changed ' he feel pressurised to act as his old self even though he has changed, it eventually adds to more mental struggle. I have gone through this so I request army to not say 'v looks happy' ' old v is back ' I know we all are concerned for him but it is his fight and he should fight it himself without any pressure, we should support him but keeping quiet and appreciating him.

From my understanding Yoongi first joined Bighit as a producer and a song writer. He didn't really intend to become an idol. He wanted to be successful, but not necessarily famous

Lmao, Bruce Banner is the Hulk, Steve Bannon was a right wing, racist, advisor to Trump😂😂😂 Also, I think the song wasn't really Suga and then him being taken over by the monster. It was more like he used to be in a mental state that was overwhelmed with where he was and the pressure from around him and the pressure he put on himself was weighing him down so much that what he used to view as his strength (his drive to succeed ) became a cage that locked away the person who was the human being, Min Yoongi, behind the idol, Suga. The latter part of the song is the current Yoongi (at the time of the release of the song) who has grown and started to heal from all his pain. So it's Yoongi talking about how he had started to view Suga as a burden/monster that Yoongi couldn't hold up/keep up with, but he persevered, started to heal and accept that Yoongi doesn't have to be separate from Suga. Both are him and that harmony allows him to finally be at ease with himself. He's melding his expectations for Yoongi and Suga so neither overwhelms the other. And to give voice to this struggle he uses AgustD .

The video you react is not that good in terms of translation. I recommend this version kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZbdeXh8f5ibrqc Cuz it translates Korean more correctly.
