The line 'It's not that you guys who betrayed us didn't do it, It's that you couldn't," - This is referring to all the underground rappers who accused him of betraying hip hop to become part of an Idol group... He's saying, its not that u underground rappers didn't betray hip hop by becoming an idol by entering mainstream, its that you couldn't enter mainstream..

When he was talking about the concert, he was talking about what happened in Kobe, Japan. Tae was injured or ill so he couldn't perform and Yoongi was going through a panic attack and locked himself in the restroom :( When they explained to the audience what happened, literally everybody started crying. They went on to perform maybe 2 or 3 songs but you could tell the energy was very off and they made the decision to stop and refund everybody :( Yoongi felt horrible after the event and when everyone went ahead to do their own thing, he came back to the venue a few days later when it was empty and he did some reflecting. He apologized to ARMYs with a looooong ass thread on Twitter and explained everything. Everyone was soooo worried about him 😔

Suga has been sharing his battle with depression since the beginning. My opinion; I would say, around 2018, you started to see Suga gaining strength, turning things around. To me, at this pointed he's well balanced as a human being. His beats & lyrics still dive deep. They hit hard. It's just the way Suga does it. He's a truth teller. The man is always spitting facts. If you have not already reacted to Cypher Medley LIVE video, you should, It's worth your time.

"The doctors asked me____, I said unhesitatingly that I have done it before." The part that has "bleep" on it, It means that the doctor asked if Suga committed (attempted/has thought of committing) suicide. The part where he mentioned memories about lying on the bathroom floor was a reference for attempting suicide according to k-armys. Suga had the hardest life (pre-debut) out of all the members. At 13, he started writing lyrics and learned MIDI . His first love is his piano or music in general. (He made a song about his piano entitled "First Love") who he described as his only friend when he was a kid. His parents didn't support his passion for music in the beginning. They were not financially stable and were being practical. They would even throw his lyrics to discourage him but Suga would sneakily continue to do it. "As for me...[my parents] were very much against [me becoming a rapper] to make me reconsider [my choice], they hit [me] and fought, and things like this...so I made music [under those circumstances]. "I had some basic MIDI gear before entering the company, things I'd bought as lyricist after saving up enough money by walking around for 2 hrs everyday and skipping dinners everyday" In his hometown, he used to work as a studio engineer while composing and performing in front of 2- 50 people, ( he was part of the hip-hop group called D-town then where he is one of the youngest). He worked part time at a music studio and was underpaid, sells his songs but often gets scammed (gets away w/o paying) . He said his parents never saw him performed back then. Suga went to Seoul to pursue music at 17. Imagine pursuing your dream where no one believes in you aside from your older brother. Where everyone told you that if you pursue music, you'll make your family broke. He had only one supporter at that time, his older brother, to whom he would show his songs. When asked if his parents eventually gave him permission to make music and Suga replies "well...before giving me permission, I was already out and about doing music." He struggled at finance in Seoul and admitted that before, he would have to choose between buying a two dollar noodles or using his money to take a bus (he will always choose to starve ). On Wings concept interview, he said that in the past, he had struggled to afford three meals a day. Q: What happened in the past?" "I couldn't eat three meals a day It was hard" "When I was working in the studio, I arranged songs or made beats and even sold them. Then I naturally started to rap and did performances" Q: How much did you earn? " Nothing" Q: You said you were working though. "That’s what it was like to work there. Usually we don’t have any income. Working in the studio, it was difficult to pay for food and transport. In front of the studio, there was a Chinese restaurant that sells Jajangmyeon (noodles) for 2,000 won, if I walk down further, there was a place that sells Janchi guksu for 1,000 won. I worried about it everyday. If I eat the 1,000 won Janchi guksu, I could get the bus and if I eat the 2,000 won Jajangmyeon, I’d have to walk 2 hours to get home. Even though it was tough, I want to make music so I endured it."

I like how deeply you looked into this it’s a true masterpiece. His ability to not just write but build up the song as a producer tells a story of despair and yes rising himself up. The reference to “Show me the money” is a rapper reality show in Korea he never participated in so people accused him of not being a real rapper and many of his friends underground rap tried to betray him or call him out but he left no opening so they couldn’t betray him . Obviously he’s in this for the art of rapping not to be famous on a reality show. He’s a very very intense person but on a society like Korea it’s taboo to discuss depression and mental health so this song is credited by many around the world but especially in Korea in saving lives because people felt seen and inspired to get help and that they can get through things. He’s very outspoken about his failures and trials and speaks often in his music about mental health. He had never even told members of BTS about things in this song like the car accident, he was so worried he’d be fired and lose his chance at making it he hid the injury and it never healed properly and he had to give up B-boying and had difficulties with that shoulder and their choreography. It was over 4 years later he told them about almost dying and the truth there is a video of the dinner he admits it, they all seemed stunned. Thankfully during the pandemic he finally took 3 months off to get surgery to repair it and he seems much better. Poor BTS was a bit of a mess missing him during every interview and performance or award they win they’d mention him bring a photo of him on stage or even call him by phone to accept awards. Thank you for reacting to this. You might like his song Interlude Shadow next.

If you want to know about Yoongi's shoulder injury from his delivery job, you can watch this clip at your own time. It happened while he was a trainee but never got it treated bc he was scared they'd kick him off. He danced through the pain up until 2021 when he finally got the surgery which is why in a lot of their recorded performances in 2021, he wasn't around :(( kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH3Rkp2bh5aBa7c

Min Yoongi is a genius, period. Even if you don’t have the CC on you could feel his emotions everytime he rapped. He open himself up to us in this song and I’ll always be grateful to him for showing us that everyone has self doubts but we can all overcome them. This is why Yoongi will always be my ultimate bias 💜💜💜

it's unfortunate but a lot of lyric videos get the last verse wrong and repeat the line about 'show me the money.' The lyrics are actually: "Sorrow lives within me/I was born out of Han" ('han' is a unique Korean word which is often described as internalized feelings of deep sorrow, resentment, grief, regret, anger), then "look at me carefully/straight in the face" and then it's followed by repeated line "it's not that I couldn't... I wouldn't..." My interpretation is he's saying these things/feelings are all a part of me, I accept that now and I don't need to prove anything to anyone anymore.

He was the only member who was already an established producer before becoming part of BTS. His parents couldn't support him in college for they were poor that's why, Suga worked part time jobs as well (at dawn ) while maintaining going to school ( at different times and will end up sleeping most of time because he's tired) and practicing as a trainee (at night). He also used to buy lottery tickets weekly because he was that desperate and hopeless. When he's on college, apart from working as a sound engineer before, he had worked at convenience store, had taught composing and MIDI lessons, and another is that delivery job where he got into an accident (2012 pre-debut) and his shoulder got shattered. He didn't tell anyone, afraid the company will kick him out, that's why his shoulder didn't heal right. This shoulder will be something that he will have to endure for 8 years, later on. He told the members that he just fell down the stairs. Eventually, the company found out about this injury and paid his college tuition and hospital fees. It was surprising considering that the company were facing an almost "bankruptcy" at that time. Suga told the truth about the accident to the members 2018 on "Burn the stage series". It is also where he recalled that the last thing he remembered before the accident was the "wheel" in front of him. It's one of the factors as to why his mental health issues had worsened. "Min Yoongi was dead. (I killed him)" It is music which saved Yoongi and it is also music which Yoongi lives for. (He's been suffering for almost a decade because of that injury that didn't heal right. It even came to a point that it has become a hindrance to his everyday life. He once said in an interview that when he tried to lift a 50ml bottle when they were filming a commercial, his shoulder hurt. ) Suga, undergoing surgery last November, is his decision because he want to be able to continuously perform on stage. BTS dance choreographies are no joke and if you watch them perform, you won't think that Suga has an injury that he was enduring. (Not that BTS have a worst dancer, but we can't deny that Suga dances better than Jin and RM even with old injury and sometimes even better than V, who is part of Dance Line). Suga received injections often when he performs on stage. Had his shoulder dislocated often too. I couldn't imagine how he managed to perform despite of that. If he hadn't talked about it, fans wouldn't know that his old injury was constantly acting up. This is only a part of his hardships. He really had gone through so much shit to get where he is at right now. No wonder he is so independent. Maybe it is why he is so used to carrying his burdens alone. "Bang Pdnim told me I've become much brighter after releasing my mixtape. He even asked me where the incisive person full of wrath from before had gone. It was my complex and the way to solve it was music that I need to make" Agust D is Yoongi's way of healing himself and also healing people who also has struggles and is feeling hopeless. Anyway, half a year later, after their debut (2013), his parents have shown their support to him. Suga was quite a rebel kid, as described by members and he even admitted it himself. He said, he regretted being rebellious towards his parents. Now his parents would always watch all their performances.

this is from his first mixtape which the tracks were written from predebut until when this was released in 2016. BTS and the members individually went through a great deal of change and growth during that time. This mixtape was very cathartic for him because it allowed him to finally speak on his hardships up until that point. By this point in time, BTS was seeing some moderate success and so Suga was able to let all of that hatred and doubt from his past go. He said he cried a lot white recoding the tracks.

Listening to this reminds me of my emotional youth and the slow, painful steps towards self-acceptance. For me, this is his journey from young teen into early adulthood. In the early days RM, Suga, and J-Hope struggled with the concept of being part of a K-Pop group (aka Idols). Thank goodness Bang PD encouraged them to do solo work so they could express their personal creativity and work through their conflicting feelings and thoughts.

So excited to see you watch an intro video. You really start to get a feel for their personalities. I love your reactions. You really take your time with the lyrics. BTS makes you think and look at yourself. It’s one reason why we love them. Suga has been very open about mental health issues which is HUGE in South Korea where it’s still very taboo. He also loved Juice World and JW guested on a Suga song and after his death Suga guested on a Juice Song.

I totally relate to the part where he said that comparing yourself to others kills your passions! I love drawing but I stopped why? Because a friend of mine picked up drawing and she was so much better than me that it discouraged me from continuing. 2 years later I started again and I'll NEVER compare myself to others because what I'm doing is for me, it makes me happy and keeps me sane. I'll do what I like at my own pace and will never give up anything again just because there are already a lot of people much better than me. They got there because they had the mindset I have now.

I think it was really hard for suga, because he was a underground rapper. So when he became an idol, he was harshly criticized by the underground rappers. To them those who become idols betray hip hop. They say they care more about money . They don't like the fact that they wear makeup , that they are controlled by the companies. Which with bts that is not the case. They actually have freedom in making their music. So rm and suga went to a interview with other underground rappers and were so badly criticized. That is why suga struggled with his image and being an idol. But as time passed he learned to love himself and excepted the fact he was an idol. That's where the cyphers came from 😁

Tried to sleep in bathroom floor= suicide attempt. In Korea is still taboo talk about such thing so he wrote it that way, like when the doctor ask about it,we only hear a beeep.....

PS Thank you for this series of reactions. I've only recently realized rap is not only poetry but deep. Suga's productions of his mixed tapes are a bit harsh on my ears so I've avoided listening but having someone who appreciates and articulates makes it simpler for me to appreciate it for what it is.

Not everything translates perfectly to english but this vid that somehow gets the most views specifically gets a lot wrong and provides no context. there are MUCH better translations out there, this one is a quick and lazy translation imo. I like this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHWleWusa9eHfKc its a better translation and offers some insight on the cultural references that don't translate well to English.
