I cried so much when this song was released. The piano was his only friend... Suga was very introverted and has depression issues so he didnt have much friends and his family wasnt supportive of him in his music at all.. he said no one really understands him and I can feel how lonely he was in his teens. The only thing that was there for him since he was a small kid was the piano (which he did give up but eventually returned when he was 14). So I can feel his passion and love when he rapped this song. It's like the piano saves him and it was his only hope in surviving his childhood. He also said that he had a hard time recording this song because he was crying.

@@vin0us The piano was not supposed to represent his mom, it represents music in general. People always assume he's talking about her just cuz he mentions her once, I guess people just can't believe someone can feel strongly enough about something that isn't a person to write a song about it.,,,,

Her_Stray_Wonder exactly Namjoon said the songs that are made have more then one meaning. I think the first meaning is that it is an actual piano and it is helping him through his hardships and depression. Second the piano is his mom. And third it is part of the bangtan universe and in the storyline he has a strong connection with his piano and his mother

@@Veronika-vy5ou idk.. we can interpret it many ways, but I believe the "I feel so nice mom" was symbolism of him trying to convince her that music helps him, and he truly does love music. Because remember how he said that his parents didnt agree with him throwint awsy his education for music, so I dont think the piano would be his mom, considering the piano helped him throughout his teen years, but his parents were the opposite.

@@imtrappedinsangwoosbasemen246 wow that was beautifully put. I kind of agree with you. This is just my interpretation but definitely through this song his love for music is shown. How he has always gone back to music and how music has helped him. There might be a section about his parents being disapproving, I am not sure that’s the whole message of the song. If you think about it music is a very risky job. You either make it or don’t. Especially since Yoongi came from a ‘poor’ family, they wanted him to have a good job. I don’t agree with what the parents did but I can see and I am sure Yoongi can understand why they were upset at first. I am sure if I told my mum I wanted to be a singer she would eventually support me but disapprove at first😂 But then Yoongi’s parents were supportive after and love Yoongi. I don’t think he wanted to paint his parents to be this villain, more like his hardships he had to go through to be with music if that makes sense. Music is life, music is always there for him

i think for me, i interpret this song to be about music. the piano, i felt, was more of a starting point or maybe even a symbol of music for yoongi. it's also mentioned in the wings album concept book interview that yoongi cried while recording this song. there's one part in the lyrics where he says "clutching my smashed shoulder" which points back to his trainee days where he got into a car accident and never told anyone in the company, fearing they would let him go. the shoulder injury also made him unable to b-boy anymore. i think during that time as well yoongi was severely depressed and wondered if BTS would debut. honestly, i cried my eyes out when i first listened to first love ;^; i hope you guys enjoyed it, all their solo songs on the wings album are very personal, i recommend you react to all of them if you can ((:

"We'll meet again in any form" I think this is the line that shows it's not just about the piano- the piano is just one form of music, and music is his true first love, that he would fall in love with, fall out of love with, reject/come back to, etc.

This is one of the best songs in my life. Even If I listen it in 100000 time but I cry every time, I just can't hold tears. This song can touch my soul so deep. I don't know how Yoongi does it... he takes out my heart and hold it in his arms when he is singing this song. He is real genius.

For me there is a much beauty in the silences between the lines of this piece as there is in the rest of it- atmosheric pauses and a poetic style of delivery , rising to the emotional midsection and then resolving at the end. Very emotionally affecting (I played the piano as a young person but life and having a family got in the way).

Thank you very much for reacting this and series of others. I am a recent fan of BTS and bought 'Love yourself: Tear'. And without much knowledge, I felt most of their songs are beautiful in lyrics and meaningful. By smashed shoulder he means, when he was a teen he got hit by a car and it’s tyres ran over his shoulder. Because he was poor, he wasn’t able to get it treated so it got more painful, it got hard for him to play music which was his only light and escape from his oppressive family, and just basically environments around him. That was what kept him smiling, and the piano s a metaphor for his friends who helped him when his family told him to give up on his dream and live the dream they want him to. He was encouraged by his friends, he was empowered by the noises and sounds that the piano, his first brown piano, made when he smashed the keys letting out his emotions. And now look at where suga Mr min yoon-gi (Yoon-Key), AGUSTD (August-Dee) stands, he is in the worlds most popular boy band, he’s where he wanted to be in the dreams he drempt as a child growing up in a depressive environment. He shows ARMY the courage he had during his hard times, and that’s what helps us through our hard times, knowing that if he went through all that and stands where he does today, we can too. The first time I listened to this song, I was not very particular about rap. I didn't hate it per say, but I certainly didn't feel connected to it like many people around me did. After listening to First Love, I realized how beautiful and mesmerizing rap can be and how powerful music is for composers like Suga. The live performance of this song is also incredible, especially with headphones on so you can hear the crescendo of the string orchestra. Absolutely flawless masterpiece.

Here's a little background story. In the early days, Suga's parents did not really support Suga to pursue music that's why in the lyrics he said that "he pushed music away" because his parents wanted him to focus on entering College but in the end no matter or wherever he was, music was still there willing to receive him again.
