I also love how you said “apparently you buy it” when Charlie Puth was talking about how he wants to know to get a fan base like Army when the fun part is, he literally can’t, no one can. Because what artists and companies want more than anything is to not have to pay these radio stations because they can get number ones without them because their fan base is passionate enough and invested enough in their careers to take them to number one without it- but you can’t buy that kind of dedication. Army is so dedicated to BTS that Billboard literally changed all of their rules to give radio play more weighting so their stations would keep getting paid. Because if sales and streams were the things that mattered BTS would never leave the charts

I totally agree with this comment. Radio will come back. My 21 year old and his friends are buying up cassette tapes and using film cameras. Start a radio station that only plays music from Asian countries but put your own spin on it so that your station is geared towards the western market. Not sure how you would do that. It does help that Army is universal. Go for it. Do you have anything to lose? Ask for Army’s support. You’ll get it. BTW, it is embarrassing how those DJ’s acted. You were right.

I was a Hispanic radio host (dj) for over 14 years and before we interview any artist we listen to their music, we learn everything that we need to know about where they were going next to perform ect ect. We only focus on the cd that they were releasing , we even ask if it was something that they don't want us to ask. But time change and it seems this dj's don't really care as long they get their paycheck
@YaGurlSunshine
@YaGurlSunshine Жыл бұрын
Also just wanted to add something I saw a bit in the comments on the original video- a lot of radio djs actually have ZERO control over what they play, the same few companies own a majority of stations and basically set up a playlist they aren’t allowed to deviate from no matter how many calls they get for other artists. Not saying this justifies the behaviour of the shitty ones, obviously not, the fact they act like we have to be nice to them to get spins when they don’t even control it is extra disgusting. But it just really shows how completely artificial the whole concept of “radio plays what the general public likes” really is
@AngelaSealana
@AngelaSealana Жыл бұрын
Exactly, thank you. Yes. What people call DJs these days are essentially voiceover recorders and/or morning show hosts, depending on the market. They don't have any influence on the music played. Corporate radio is exactly that, a corporate system where the decisions come from the top very few people. People who program your individual station are called program directors, and they also have limited control.

Me here from the 80s when request lines were a huge thing and the two most popular FM radio stations (in my area) would hold a nightly 'play-off' of the most requested songs of the night. The Hot 8 at 8 and the Top 10 at 10. I'm recalling the night when Club Nouveau released their remix of 'Lean On Me' (still love that song), and it was the ONLY song requested that night. So the Hot 8 played the song 8 times in a row! You don't get that kind of listener interaction anymore, haven't for a long time. But the reason I don't ever turn the radio on anymore is, I got tired of hearing the same songs at the same times on different channels every blessed day. There are six major companies that, between them, own most of the US radio stations (IHeartRadio, NPR, Audacy, Cumulus, EMF, Univision; there are some others as well, but those 6 take the lion's share), and they're the ones who make the playlists and order the DJs to never deviate from them. 'So,' I concluded, 'if I'm gonna be listening to playlists, I will put together my own, and they'll be a lot better than anything the radio can come up with. Because the radio is about catering to payola, and mine will be about a variety of good music!'

Yes, they dont understand that Army likes BTS because primarily they make fantastic music and blinding performances. The fact that they are so handsome and such nice, decent, honest people is a bonus. I live in the UK, and I hardly ever see or hear anything about BTS on the media. Even when Jungkook was set to sing in the football world cup opening ceremony it was scheduled to be shown live by the BBC, but instead the football pundits talked for an hour about the abuse of human rights in Qatar, and didn't show the ceremony. I agree that is a matter for debate, but not to be discussed by football pundits at that exact moment.

I said the same thing they had 12 years to debate it I was so excited to see my bias singing then nothing except afterwards I heard we could have downloaded a BBC football app and they showed it there but I had no idea I checked where to watch and an article said BBC 1, I was so mad, I agreed with Gary also on the whole Twitter thing going on now but that was not the time, they had 12 damn years

Hobia Song soled over 100k Units has around the same streams on all platforms but will be placed at 40-50 at BB, because it's the only Song on the Top 100 without Radio Spins. While the Songs with 3 versions, that sold only 12k Units, but have like 200 Million Radio spins and legit no streams get placed in the Top 10. On the Street is the only Song on that Chart, without Radio Spins and that matches in Sales and Streams, the only reason it doesn't get the proper placing is because Hobi won't pay for Radio and doesn't want to lick American Radio Hosts ass.

I stopped listening to radio so long ago. Anyway, Walmart radio, you mentioned. Is actually not part of the overall radio play that is counted, it's a very independent radio. They were actually the first to start playing BTS back during Blood sweat & Tears era. we had reports from fans hearing them at walmart, but not on actual radio. So props to the walmart radio network, it's just too bad they don't count.

No, a professional would do his/her homework first, or get their researcher to do it. A professional would think about how they worded things so as not to sound stupid and ill informed so they might say something like 'For those who don't know can you explain about what someone attending your concert insert date place etc would expect to see at your performance.?" But these people aren't DJ's they are given lists from their company heads and just play what their company heads tell them to play.

This kinda blew my mind. I never saw this video before and I knew about radio play and how important it is for BBHot100 etc. but I never truly understood how these worked. I always wondered how can „ as it was“ be on the radio every fucking time I turn it on when it’s out only for 1 week and BTS was on the #1 for over 11 weeks but I rarely heard it. Blinding lights … nowadays „ Flowers“ from Miley. You don’t understand. I live in Germany and the song wasn’t even on the charts in it’s first week in the US - but it was already played on the radio every hour or so. Like how do they know the public „likes“ the song to play it that much when it’s out two days. 😅 But shockingly this makes sense… now it all makes sense. And I’m getting emotional right now cause how fucking awesome is BTS ? And how can there be people who doubt Hybe still? Like their ethics do exist. They are Moneyhungry yeah - but they have morals. Who does that? 😢 I am even more in awe of everyone right now… I need to think about that for a minute… wow.. I love those boys so much

There is no point to being nice to DJs. Radio station DJs don’t have any power to decide on what plays. The list of top 20 songs for a group of stations are made in committees by business people. DJs used to be in control up until the 70s. After that it became just a business. These people aren’t really DJs anymore They are simply MCs.
