I miss this. Gibbs hasn’t mentioned the new team as “family”. He only had that family dynamic with the old team. After ziva and tony left, Gibbs has been distant from the new team and taking on more of a distant role with them. I haven’t gotten the family vibe from them yet

I don't blame him. He was working with Tony for a very long time before the show actually started and he considers him the best agent he's ever worked with. Abby and Ziva are basically like daughters to him and he worked with them very closely through some of the toughest and most physically exhausting cases in the show, including the interrogation rescue. Ducky is one of his oldest and closest friends. He liked Kate a lot and saw her and DiNozzo as siblings. And he basically lost each of them for different reasons; Kate was killed right in front of him and DiNozzo. Ziva was basically dead for a very long time until she just strolled into his basement alive, Jenny died in a shoot-out, Franks his mentor was murdered, Ducky is practically retired at this point and Abby left. DiNozzo had to quit for the sake of his daughter... * It would be tough for anyone to transfer those feelings to a new person or to new people. I think he distanced himself because of how badly it hurt him to go through all that with them. They were his replacement family, like his kids.

​@@annkynaston3605 Aside from Gibbs' confession to McGee at the end of Season 19 or 20 just before he himself retired, its hard to get a grasp on how Gibbs felt about McGee. McGee was SO awkward around him and was an expert in a field that Gibbs knows nothing about. I think if he did see him as a member of the family, it was one he couldnt relate to a lot of the time, so he just tolerated him. I'm not 100% sure though to be honest.

Tony was the eldest son and heir Abby was the spoilt princess daughter. Ziva was the adopted foreign daughter. McGee was the red-headed Step-child he didn't really want but tolerated because he needed him to work those infernal,in Gibbs mind,machines.
