As someone who's new to level design, this knowledge is incredibly enlightening. Thank you so much for this!

You deserve more than this.

At first, looking at the architecture example, it seemed too abstract to be useful. But on watching your example unfold i see how useful this is for quick design. Thanks.

@@timdoesleveldesign well i like you are going step by step :D to design a level so i m guessing your next video would be a papermaps X) a specific topic most of level desing process is fun is just rare to find a well structured video of each specific step

@@khalidbouchaara6976 The next one coming up is actually about pre-production (steps even before bubble diagrams). I will likely cover 2D maps and blockouts in the future too 🙂 Though I might cover some other topics inbetween to keep it varied.

Hello, Tim. Nice video. Can you please tell me what program did you use to create the Ancient temple diagram? Thanks.

Thanks! I used diagrams.net It's simple to use and fairly handy for quick iterations on stuff like this :)

Great video! What differs this from a flow chart? I tried looking at some architecture bubble diagrams as well as your example, and so far the only thing would be that the sizes of the bubbles / shapes might correspond more to the final design than a purely abstract flow chart, is that it?

Yeah, it's pretty much a quick intermediate step to figure out spatial relationships between spaces. It's a similar type of abstraction but with a different focus. Because when you make a bubble diagram you're not as worried about about the pacing, gameplay mechanics, content distribution etc (like you often are with flowcharts) it's very quick to try out some different compositions that will inform you moving forward with your design.
