I got one of those in store ($23). Good looking knife. I love the jigged bone scales and the nickle silver bolsters. It wasn't super sharp out of the box, but with a little work on a whetstone and a strop it is now shaving sharp. It will be interesting to see what the edge retention is like. I heard that the steel is 420C, but I don't know for sure.

Yep. 420 J2 steel. At least thats what Buck says/w forever warranty. One thing I didn't like is that the bar code taped onto the box had MADE IN CHINA printed on it in all caps. But I liked it and it seems to be a great little knife. I've got an older Buck 110 that seems a little too big now. But it did its job very well gutting deer without losing its edge too much. Back then I wouldn't carry the 119 to save on weight.

I picked up the same knife a while back online. Can't beat it for $12 but I really like it better than I anticipated and have been carrying it almost daily. Man that's a nice sheath. You guys make me want to get back into leather crafting 🤔 I used to do it years ago then stepped away from it but I may have to jump back in seeing all of you and y'all's beautiful work. Thanks for sharing 🎉

That likely isn't 420 steel, it is a Chinese made Buck so it is likely 8cr13Mov steel. If it was a USA made Buck the tang stamp would have USA on it, and it would be made with 420 steel. Was did the included paper work state it was 420?? Regardless it is a nice looking knife.

Not crazy about 420 stainless but not a bad deal for $11

@@AppalachianAxeworks Yeah. They also had the MADE IN CHINA taped to the bottom of the box where its not readily visible. I sure liked it though and I also like the 8CR steel. (I don't like China) It holds a prerry good edge. Its hard to sharpen with an oil whetstone though. I've also got an old (about 1980's) Colt CT 20 Trailscout hunter that has a blade stamped 420 J2 stainless. The steel on the Colt seems to be different than the one in the Canoe. It is a little darker steel and it was a bear to sharpen up. I ended up using a diamond stone on it way back in the 80's. Had to recut the bevel. It may have been that the Colt wasn't polished as much as the Canoe, or the big age difference may have made a difference in the steel's appearance.
