Im from Bakersfield born and raised ...Met Buck a few times one time at the Crystal Palace with a buddy of mine that was going through a bad breakup and he needed someone to talk to so we met at the Crystal Palace up at the bar we ate lunch and had a couple beers my buddy was pretty upset and as we were talking Buck came walking in and said " how you boys doing"?...my buddy said what he was going through and Buck pulled up a seat and talked with us for prob a half hour...it was amazing almost like he was a grandpa we hadnt seen for awhile ...we stayed there about 2 hours and when we were ready to leave I asked the bartender for the check and he said " buck said this ones on him"....It was just one of the moments that you will remember forever......after he passed I found out that he did alot for people but one of the conditions he didnt want anyone like the media to even know about it.

At the beginning of September of this year I was hospitalized with Covid-19, I spent about 4 to 5 days in ICU not sure if I was going to make it , the doctors asking me if I wanted a Priest and if I wanted to be put on a ventilator if it came to that, I was scared that I would not see my children and wife again, that I was going to die alone but I fought back did what the nurses and doctors told me to do and I was well enough to be put in a regular Covid room because I was getting better. I had to sit in a chair from the time I awoke till I had to sleep, your videos have kept me company while I was convalescing in the hospital and still today. Your trips and stories kept my mind occupied with places I would love to visit and hopefully one day I will. Just want to say thank you Jeff and Sarah for making my dark days a little bit brighter.

We were a 5 member family living a far way away from this. 3 of my family members are still alive and from time to time we get together and talk about the earlier times, He Haw is always mentioned. Peace to all of their souls, Roy passed on my 55th birthday, and I still listen to Buck's and Roy's records. I met Buck Owens in 2005. I had went back to visit my friends at the Henry Ford Estate that I had worked with. I ended up talking to him about my mother's record she had of his and described how he was wearing a long-sleeve shirt and he recognized the album immediately. He shook my hand and was very nice. He told me that when my friends talk to me my friends call me buck. I used to watch TV all the time to the seventies and eighties. Jeff thanks again for the wonderful memories.

I remember his Cadillac being parked out front and I would just stare at it in awe of all the horns cow hides dingle dangles and such. He would always tell me to work hard and someday I could get a Cadillac just like it. Later after my high school years I would chat with him at the Crystal palace and he said he remembered me when I was a kid. I was serving in Iraq when I heard of the news that he had passed, really hit me hard and never really got over it. He inspired me to become a musician which I still do to this day. Been to the Crystal Palace many times to see Buck. I live in Arizona but the majority of my family still resides in Bakersfield. On my yearly visit to Bakersfield I never missed a chance to go to see Buck play. I was so glad when he purchased than big Bakersfield sign and kept it from being demolished. For nearly 30 years I lived in the Chandler Arizona area my Buck had spent some time in Chandler Heights years and years before in the cotton fields back before he had reached California. At one of his shows in the audience I mentioned I was from Chandler and he remembered that place and asked me if it was still there. Back when he was there it was nothing but a little hole in the wall town nothing but Agriculture and bars. Now it’s quite a huge city.

It is now businesses, condos, and homes everywhere. Me and the wife moved out in 2005 to get away from it all. Now for the time being I am back stuck in Phoenix. You did justice to Buck, "The King of Bakersfield". My grandmother had us watch HeeHaw, she loved that show, as do I. I travel thru there monthly and have done so for over a half dozen years. One of the top things on my bucket list is the Crystal Palace. I looked it up, and it is listed as temporarily closed. So hopefully it will re-open. I also looked up the Beetles and "Act Naturally", I did not know before your video. For the record, I got a place up at Pine Flat-California Hot Springs and I live and work in Los Angeles. One of Buck's X wives lives there. I don't know which one, though I could find out in one phone call; I wouldn't put it here. Right now, it is being threatened by the Windy Fire. Anyway, thank you, wonderful video! Suggestions are: Anything with Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam, California Hot Springs-Pine Flat, White River (the town, there were multiple shootouts there historically, the river had some placer prospecting), Camp Nelson, Johnsondale (lumber mill), or anything in that area. There were also some Indian troubles that are still talked about in that area that mainstream history glosses over and/or doesn't mention.

Thanks for sharing. Around 2000 I saw a tv documentary on his life. I became fascinated with his music and Bakersfield sound. I bought a TELECASTER because of him. The next summer , me and the missus decided to vacation a week in LA. Flew from Omaha. First stop? i rented a car and drove to BAKERSFIELD. I had made reservations months and months prior to see a show on a weekend at the Crystal Palace, and a room at the hotel next door. Place opens up, We are the only ones at the door, hours before the show. Holding my Carnegie Hall live LP hoping to get an autograph that night. As we checked in at door, the hostess says, Sorry to inform you, but Buck called in sick tonite, and he never calls in sick. I was floored. Totally disappointed, but watched his band. I remember a couple saying how they were disappointed , driving 2 hours away. I flew from Omaha, but it is what it is. I did contact the Crystal Palace when i got home via email. Told them had good time, but missed not seeing Buck. A week later, unexpectedly, i get an autographed 8X10 pic of Buck in the mail from the Palace. Was sad when he passed away. A true legend and pioneer.

In fact on Friday nights during the reunion they have dragsters and restored drag cars all over Bakersfield hot spots, hotels, restaurants, IN-N-OUT etc. and there are always a couple over at Buck’s Crystal Palace, his son Buddy runs it now, very cool. The museum was wonderful! They also had the best food! It was getting too late and we couldn't stay to see Dwight Yoakam. We had also tried to find Buck's mausoleum, but that local cemetery is a chain, and of course we tromped through the wrong one. UGH! Thank You Jeff!!! Buck and Don Rich were "Telecaster Troubadors", loved their music and style. Hi Sarah!!!

Excellent!!! I was fortunate to have visited before it closed. You provided great information and the story at the end is a true testimonial to the class act that Buck Owens was. Side note: The heart knows what it needs and the word divorce isn't in the equation. Again, the class act loved big.

Hi It’s Larry. I spoke with you in the past. Long time friend of Merle Haggard. Those notes that are placed at Buck Owens gravesite is from the song “I got a Tiger by the tail”.😊🎵🎸

Thanks for the info and very interesting to know! When Merle died I felt like a long lost friend had passed away. What a talent!

@@jbenziggy Merle passed away on his Birthday April 6th 2016. What was by far one of the saddest days of my and others lives. I’m still hanging out with Benny and Noel. He passed away on his bus 🚃

@@beyourselfadventures did he really? Wow. I would love to do a video of his gravesite, but I don’t think anybody is allowed to see it? Are they?
@beyourselfadventures Жыл бұрын
@@jbenziggy unfortunately no. He is buried up at his ranch. Only very close friends and family members are allowed, and that is very rare. I spent time up at the ranch.

Buck was certainly one of the big ones in country music and I always remember him on Hee Haw. He has a nice little mausoleum. It's nice to see where he is so thanks for showing us!

You are very welcome. I think I grew up watching Hee Haw against my will but as I’ve gotten older I’ve grown to appreciate the talent of all of these great musicians. I think Merle Haggard has been one of my favorites!

@@jbenziggy I think I'm the same way as you. I watched it being at my paternal grandparents house but as I have gotten older it seems to have more special memories connected with it.

7:09 A missing part of Buck's legacy from this story regarding his connection to Bakersfield is he paid to have those "BAKERSFIELD" letters restored and put back up on a custom made arch at The Crystal Palace. Those letters originally hung at the South side of the intersection of California Avenue, and Union for decades. It was a pedestrian overpass that connected the two sides of the Bakersfield Hotel. Union Avenue was the original route through Bakersfield before the 99 freeway. The yellow arch with "BAKERSFIELD" spelled out on both sides welcomed people entering, and leaving the city when Union Avenue was the main highway through town. This intersection can be seen in a clip from "Any Which Way You Can" with Clint Eastwood.
