Hi Buckin, The raker height on the C85 X-cut measures about .012" to .014" below the working corner on my samples. The newer X-cut progressive raker gauge will get you closer to the factory height if your interested in trying one. I think you will be surprised at the cutting performance and how long it lasts. The X-cut profile is very easy to duplicate if you profile a stone. It's an asymmetrical grind. Good luck with your testing.

I've run c83 (.050 ) in Maple , Dirty maple and it last as long as anything. I have a few years running that stuff. Punted LGX and RS from my truck. AND they don't stretch as fast as the old Oregon chains. Hoping someone comes out with a shaped file as the c83 cuts real good and bore cuts really smooth. Hard to replicate it once it's worn. What I have done it get one "sharpening" with light filing with a round, but sharpening number two it's like every other chain.

Hi Buckin'. In a prefect wood cutting scenario the C-85 works great. Until you hit Steel or Stone, then the honeymoon stage is over. Because the tooth is harden Steel it's very time consuming to get the teeth back to cutting edge and Sharp., compared to other Chains with round Filling. That's my Experience. Earl

I always start my saw with my right hand on the pull rope. Left hand on the handle. Maybe it’s me maybe it’s the fact that I broke my left shoulder when I was 21 years old I don’t know, but that’s just how I’ve always done it
@tobiasdonner62684 ай бұрын
Not sure if you said it in the video because I only watched the first 5minutes. But in case you said it in the video I totally agree that it is a combination that makes a lot of sense. Having a small cutting angle (side beak) to get a high sharpness, makes the cutting edge also thinner and more fragile. But then combining it with very high takers that allow only thin shaving cutting will greatly reduce the stress on the cutting edge preventing it from bending or shipping. You can really feel this effect when you work with woodworking handtools like chisel. Sharpen it in different Angels and use it on different woods also varying the shaving thickness when you cut a mortise or something. You will find that there is a smallest bevel angle for each group of wood that still holds it’s edge for long enough if you cut thin shavings but as soon as you get impatient and hammer to thick shavings the edge will fold or chip depending on the hardness of the steel. Same for the power saw chain but here the high rakers guard the keen edge from being overloaded and early failing.
@dylanyaremchuk45114 ай бұрын
Hey buckin. I got that c85 x-cut on my 32” 395 cut for about 5 minutes and took one and a half swipes off the rakers. Haven’t touched them since. Great chains and seem to hold up good

I love c85… even after round filing. I truly feel c85 is made of better steel. I think the edge lasts really well - even in snotty hardwood. It’s so cool you finally got to play with this chain. Hi Buckin, I use C85, it is the only chain I use. Do exactly what you taught us to do. I always run a 7/32 file in the gullet and follow the line on the top plate out of the box. I also use the regular husky gauge on the hard setting when the tooth is fresh and about half way worn it works out well on the ‘soft’ setting because of the top plate getting lower. Thank you for your videos. 💪🏻

I put on the full wrap handle. I like that I can switch hands when cutting. But I hate that it is in my way when adjusting the chain and it likes to flip over when refueling and adding oil. Also, when I get in the tops of a downed tree that full handle can catch limbs. But like I said it’s nice to be able to switch hands
@brettblack70494 ай бұрын
I really like the c83(same as the c85 but .050), fastest out of the box even compared to factory square (I've not checked it to the stihl hexa yet though). It also hold the factory edge very well, when it dulls i just hit it with a round file or put it on the square grinder. Its quite hard chain. That EXL cutter you showed a picture of looks nothing like the EXL I've cut with for yrs, mine is much more aggressive. I like those stihl raker guides for picco chain, but they set the rakers a bit low even using the hardwood setting, which isn't fun when you do a lot of bore cuts. Congrats on the new saw. Never ran the 562 mk2, i have a ported mk1, nice running saw. The bummer is the mk1 is only a few ounces less than my 371/372oe, so i run them with tue longer bars and the ported 562 with 20-24.
