Its well worth a visit but its somewhere you will need to spend the best part of a day at. They sometimes run a bus service from Aylesbury or Aylesbury Vale Parkway which makes it easy to get to on those days.

Am I seeing things, or is that an original 1863 Metropolitan train running there? And isn't this the line that John Betjeman wrote about and the line where the film "Metroland" was made back in 1973?

No, that's Furness Railway No. 20 but from about the same area. Yes Quinton Road was featured in John Betjeman's Metroland.

I take it you had special permission to film on that footplate, because I read somewhere that footplate rides on steam loco's were banned after someone had a nasty accident somewhere. And how come there's no connections to the line from Aylesbury? Is that not allowed? And why is there so many rails on the miniature lines, are they multi-gauge?

Footplate rides are not banned as such but no so easy to get as they once were. I've managed to get quite a few around the UK and Europe. The line in the middle is National Rail with the heritage lines each side. They've never been confectioned since its been a railway centre but that might change in the next few years. Yes the Miniature Railway is multi gauge.
